At that moment, a waiter approached and asked, “Miss Marsh, do you want to take the horse you won, or…?”
Callie remembered and glanced in Nelson’s direction. He had changed out of his riding clothes and was now dressed in a suit.
“Such an expensive horse, I have no place to keep it,” Callie said leisurely. “Leave it at the Ellison family for now. I’ll come back for it.”
When the time comes, she would not only come for the horse.
As the party ended, the show reached its conclusion, and people began to leave.
Callie was absent-minded. Jamir knocked her head lightly with one hand. “What? After racing with your ex-husband, your heart went with him?”
She glared at him, too lazy to argue. “I need to go somewhere.”
Callie grabbed Jamir’s wrist and led him away from the crowd, navigating through the back of the tea garden. It was quiet and secluded there, and their high-end attire seemed out of place.
“What are we doing here?”
Callie walked ahead, searching for a while before softly calling out, “Pepper! Pepper!”
Jamir frowned and looked around.
Soon, a Shiba Inu came running out, jumping into Callie’s arms and whining affectionately.
Jamir took a step back, raising an eyebrow in surprise. “Is it yours?”
Callie petted Pepper’s head. “Sort of.”
She squatted down, holding Pepper’s face. “You still remember me? Such a good memory. Just like me.”
Pepper stuck out its tongue and licked her hand affectionately.
“Sorry I can’t visit you often. I don’t know when I’ll be back next time. Take care of yourself, okay? I’ll bring you treats next time.”
Callie’s eyes were sincere, without a trace of deceit.
The dog seemed to understand and licked her even more fervently.
Callie stood up and glanced at Jamir, who looked puzzled and out of place.
She remembered that Jamir was afraid of dogs.
“It doesn’t bite.”
“I don’t like animals.”
“You’re the animal,” she snapped impatiently, dragging him away before they were discovered.
“Keeping a dog at the Ellison family, Callie, you’re strange,” Jamir said playfully as he let her lead him.
Callie changed the subject. “That’s why I’m capable.”
Once in the car and away from the Ellison family, with good lighting, she finally looked at him seriously. She noticed a red mark on his neck.
Being experienced, she knew what it was.
She raised an eyebrow but didn’t mention it. “Why didn’t you come over when I was at the racetrack?”
Jamir was already working on his laptop and didn’t look up. “I ran into a business partner and got held up.”
He looked up after speaking. “You said you were going to the restroom but ended up at the racetrack.”
Callie smirked. They both knew what was going on.
She didn’t care about his private affairs because all she needed was his status. Whoever he was involved with or who left those marks on his neck to claim ownership had nothing to do with her.
Jamir returned to his place and noticed the red mark on his neck. In an instant, he picked up a cup and smashed it against the mirror.
The image of that woman clinging to him and kissing him passionately in the corner of the Ellison family property flashed through his mind.
Unconsciously, she had left a mark on him.
Yusuf rushed in. “Jamir, what happened?”
Jamir loosened his tie, feeling slightly relieved. However, remembering Callie’s earlier question brought back his frustration.
