“Miss Marsh rides her horse very well. Winning the equestrian championship, it turns out, was all thanks to Nelson’s training,” he said as he walked out, not seeing Jamir in his blind spot.
The moment he saw him, his voice stopped abruptly.
Because he also saw Regan.
She stood at the back, expressionless.
The equestrian champion’s companion stood close to him, in an intimate posture.
Isaac immediately withdrew his hand.
Callie, with her arms crossed, said leisurely, “Mr. Ellison enjoys the company of many, but I didn’t know that even an equestrian champion needs to use tricks to win.”
This was a jab at her earlier behavior.
The companion was already angry and couldn’t hold back any longer. “More than enough for you. You think you’re so capable, but you still rely on men.”
Callie’s face changed color, and Jamir’s expression darkened as he was about to step forward. But Regan moved first.
With a stern face, she grabbed a bottle of red wine and walked up, picking up an opener with a pop.
Isaac stared at her incredulously. “What are you doing, Regan?”
His companion immediately stepped aside, equally incredulous.
Regan looked at her and then smiled. “The woman I saw with Isaac last time wasn’t you.”
Then she turned to Isaac. “Where’s Bryanna? Weren’t you head over heels for her?”
Saying this in front of so many people, Isaac’s face turned from green to white. “What the hell does it matter to you?”
Rumors had it that he was under this woman’s thumb, and now, in front of so many people, he couldn’t afford to lose face.
Regan nodded, raised the bottle, and as Isaac almost hid behind his companion, she smiled and took a sip.
He sighed in relief.
Unexpectedly, after drinking, she splashed the wine in Isaac’s face.
“Damn it!”
“Today I’ll teach you how to be a husband.”
After splashing the wine, Regan smiled at the companion. “His last woman? He got tired of her and sent her to work at a club. Do you understand what that means?”
This made the woman shiver.
“Get lost!”
The woman hesitated, her face pale. Unwilling to accept it, she stomped her foot and quickly ran away.
Regan smashed the bottle on the ground with an air of authority.
Callie frowned slightly. Regan was usually patient; today’s assertiveness was surprising. Perhaps she had been provoked.
Nelson’s gaze fell on Jamir’s protective gesture towards Callie, his eyes darkening.
Charlotte tugged at his sleeve. “Nelson…”
Nelson looked down. “Let’s go.”
There was still a banquet afterward. Isaac did not attend again. Regan calmly touched up her makeup. “Ahmad called him away.”
Doing something like this today had embarrassed the Ellison family; he needed a good lesson.
Ahmad was absent, so Sienna hosted the banquet. As expected, it was to pave the way for Charlotte.
Regan wasn’t interested in listening. She picked up a glass of wine and handed it to Jamir with a playful tone. “Doctor, we meet again. Oh, I should call you Jamir now.”
Jamir stood beside Callie and took the glass without a word. “Miss Regan, is your illness better?”
Regan smiled. “Even if it’s not better, I can’t ask you to treat me anymore.”
Jamir smiled without speaking.
Callie’s attention wasn’t on their small talk but on Sienna.
On stage, Sienna announced that Charlotte’s art exhibition would be held next Saturday, which happened to be her birthday. She hoped everyone would attend.
Charlotte stood beside her with a dignified smile.
Callie felt numb and suddenly realized that for all these years, she never knew her own birthday and always used the day Reuben found her.
So next Saturday was her birthday.
