Rex’s POV
I paused immediately as Clark turned to me. From his looks, I could tell everything that was currently going through his mind and yes, I admit, still referring to her as my mate was something stupid.
I groaned as I tilted my lips. I raised my head upwards, like I was trying to hold back my tears from rolling down my cheeks.
“Okay, it’s totally fine!” I cursed as I looked at him, rolling my eyes as I knocked off the jealousy that was heavily on my chest.
“You don’t have to look at me like that, Clark, and you know it.” I scowled as I walked past him.
I looked outside the room we were in as I tried calming down my racing heart and also, my head was banging heavily.
“I know that either way, maybe you are still affected by everything. You just have to stop overthinking everything. I know Elena.” He replied as he walked up to me.
He rested his right hand on my left arm as he looked at me. I turned to him, forcing out a smile that faded soon as well.
“She is never coming back.” I chuckled softly, still trying my best not to let those tears roll down my cheeks.
“I… I wish I had never chased her out of my pack five years ago.” I groaned this time around.
“I know you still feel guilty about it all, but feeling guilty won’t help either, Rex. Your mother will be calling later tonight, she would love to know how far you have gone in bringing back her daughter in-law as well as her grandchildren and also, how The Eleven is going.” Clark shrugged as he smiled at me.
“Come on, Rex. You’ve got this, trust me.” He said in an assuring tone as he embraced me warmly.
“We better get back to work. Guess you won’t need lagging workers?” He chuckled as he looked at me.
We exited the room as we both took the elevator. He stopped at the finance department floor while I went to the last floor which was reserved for just me and my personal secretary, Elena Toussaint, the one woman that left me unsettled for five years and now, after seeing her, she seems to have moved on with her life.
“Good morning, Sir!” She greeted me.
I smirked at her professionalism towards me.
“Good morning, Elena.” I answered calmly as I walked past her to my office door. “I want you to arrange for an executive meeting. 30 minutes to the time, get the hall ready.” I directed her, as I walked inside my office right after she answered yes with a nod.
Few minutes of settling down on my office chair and having my eyes on Elena, my phone rang, making my heartbeat spike as it brought me back to reality.
I looked at my screen as the caller ID popped up. It was Clark.
“Anything important?” I answered coldly as I answered the call.
“My secretary in the finance department is currently headed to your office to handover to you a review of the bar at the beach, and as well, the directory you ordered for. Sorry I couldn’t get down myself.” He said in an apologetic manner.
“Okay, okay, fine. I will be expecting the reports!!” I mumbled as I hung up immediately.
And the whirring door sound caught my attention as I raised my head up to see who just walked in, it was Marie, Elena’s best friend or whatever she was. I rolled my eyes as I turned on my personal computer, then I fixed my eyes on the screen like I was doing something.
But then, I still couldn’t help but eavesdrop on their conversation.
“Marie?” Elena said in a shock as Marie got to her desk. “What are you doing here? And what are those?” She questioned, looking at the files and still trying to maintain eye contacts with Marie who had this sheepish smile on her face.
“Clark sent me to deliver these to Rex.” She answered. “And guess what?” She chuckled softly as she dropped the files on the desk. “This one belongs to your Mr. Devilishly Mysterious guy, umm…”
“Collins Morgan!!” She helped Marie with the name.
I felt this sharp pain. “Does she even remember his name?” I cursed as I blocked out myself.
I raised my head as I looked at them from where I sat. “Collins Morgan?” I gasped after a short time.
I remember him. He was the new supervisor that I had used to replace Gusto.
I felt this sharp pain making it round my chest as I recalled it hasn’t been up to a week and they already happen to know themselves?
I picked up a pen that was by the side of my paper as I broke it with my right hand.
I was now getting sick and tired of their conversation as I raised my head, then I looked at them.
“Is anything the matter? Where are the reports?” I queried as Elena quickly took the files, then she waved Marie goodbye before racing into my office as she dropped the files on my work desk.
I kept on staring at her as she got to my desk but then, she wouldn’t even look at me.
She turned to leave after her apologies for indulging in a conversation during work hours and yet, she still had her eyes fixed on my work desk and after that, she walked down to the door.
I groaned at the thought of it. “Why does she hate me this much? Will I ever get the chance to have her return to the pack again?” I whined as I looked at the calendar that rested on my desk.
It was almost getting to the day where I got to say my final goodbyes and also move on.
And looking at her right now, all my head could process was Collins Morgan. “Who is he?” “Why did they refer to him as the devilishly mysterious guy?” I squinted my eyes this time around.
