Elena’s POV
I felt my heartbeat in an unrhythmically pattern and then, I perceived an unfamiliar woody, musky scent that made my nerves stand. I instantly fell in love with the freshly musky scent of whoever it was, who had just saved me from the humiliation of falling publicly before everyone.
There was something totally odd about whoever had caught me from falling. My eyes remained shut for a while as I still couldn’t get myself into believing what just happened and yes, I still had the full fleshed shame that came with a broken heel and also tripping off.
“Why do I all of a sudden feel safe here?” I tightened my eyes further before gathering the confidence to open it again. And my eyes had met with those familiar eyes that instantly struck me.
“Him? Him again?” I whimpered within as I felt my cheeks fluster. “Oh no, not now, please!” I cried as I pulled off, standing upright this time around as he looked at me.
“Umm, thank you!” I mumbled as I squatted to pick up my broken heel that laid on the floor.
“Oh, poor shoes!” I cursed as I picked the broken heel off, then I thanked him again but then, we both ended up moving in the same direction as we chuckled softly. And moving to the next direction, he also moved as well.
He chuckled lightly as he looked at me. “I am sorry. Why don’t we do the lady’s first policy?” He said in an excited tone as he shifted and stretched his hand, pointing towards the entrance door.
“Thank you!” I chuckled as I walked past him.
“Za….”
“Elena Toussaint.” I turned back as I looked at him.
I was still puzzled by his intense, hazel eyes which still gave him this mysterious aura. I still felt lost looking into his eyes and I wished there was a way to get the answers I have been searching for lately.
“You forgot this.” He said as he raised my biro.
“Oh!” I rubbed my forehead lightly as I walked back to him to take my biro. “Thank you.” I responded as I turned to leave.
Marie had joined me into the building as we walked down to the elevator. “Come on, Elena.” Marie poked as she looked at me. “I have known you for five years and never for once have I seen someone catch your entire attraction like the stranger does.” She mumbled as she looked at me.
“How many times do I have to tell you that it is nothing?” I scowled as I looked at her. “I just found him…”
“Mysterious? Here you go again, Elena. As far as I am concerned, I don’t think I find anything mysterious about that guy, trust me.” She said in a whisper as she turned around to have a better look at him again. “Can’t you see how endearing he is, huh?” She blushed as we both walked into the elevator.
“You can’t be serious right now, Marie.” I scowled as I frowned. “I thought minutes ago you were with your Mr. Perfect?” I scoffed as I looked at her.
“Mr. Perfect?” She repeated before laughing. “Are you for real now, Elena?” She scowled. “Well, he ditched me to fulfill his beta’s duty to Rex whose car drove into the garage in the middle of the scene.” She mumbled as she looked at me.
“What!?” I gasped out in shock. “Rex was there?” I questioned as I looked at her.
“Of course he was.” She said, rolling her eyes.
I groaned at the thought of it, but then, if that was going to be my only way of getting rid of him, and having him leave New Kingston, then I won’t mind at all.” I grinned within.
Rex’s POV.
I couldn’t go to my office as the last face I wanted to see at that moment was Elena.
Tears swelled up in my eyes as I looked at Clark who remained quiet as he watched me pace about in the room. I turned around as I punched the wall behind me multiple times, trying to ease my rage.
“Can you stop already?” Clark scowled as he looked at me. “She tripped off and he just saved her from falling down.” He said as he rolled his eyes.
“Didn’t you see the way he was staring at her?” I fired back in defense as the whole scene continued replaying in my head. “It was obvious, Clark. And… And, didn’t you see how she also looked at him?” I cursed as I felt this sharp pain thrusting deeper as I remained unsettled as I kept pacing about.
“I could see how her cheeks suddenly flustered the moment she opened her eyes, Clark.” I groaned as I folded my right hand in a fist.
“You are the only one reading meaning to it, Rex. Why don’t you drop this off already?” He growled angrily as he looked at me.
“Drop this off? Can you even hear yourself? How do you expect me not to react to this?” I fired back at him as I stood still, with our eyes fixed at each other.
“From his dress code, he is the supervisor. I saw his tag as well.”
“And what about it? Don’t tell me you want to confront him or even fire him because he caught Elena from falling?” He looked at me as his eyes glistened with rage and yet, I could still see the disappointment that lurked in them as well.
I remained silent for a while as he was right. I couldn’t endure seeing anyone get close to Elena and if firing him happens to be the best solution to it, then I wouldn’t think twice before doing it.
“You can’t be serious!!” He shook his head as he looked at me sternly. “Doing that will only push Elena away from you, Rex.” He scowled as he glared at me.
“But she is my mate?” I growled as my eyes glistened with rage.
“Mate?”
