Chapter 78

Book:The Alpha's Hot Chase After Divorce Published:2025-2-25

Elena’s POV.
To be honest, this is probably my favorite part of the day. For some reason, the best time every 9-5 worker gets is when they get back from work. Kanu and Kiana had gone to bed immediately after dinner which I found weird. And talking about Marie, she was still setting up the record and right at this point, I couldn’t help but thank God that I was not in the finance department.
I stepped out from the shower as I packed my black, wavy hair in a bun as I wore a white vest, and bum shorts that had white stripes at the side. I still couldn’t understand why Rex made me his personal secretary in the first place. It all seemed like he just made me his personal secretary just to pamper me.
Even though Rex and I have been working in perfect synchronization during the day, it still hasn’t changed the way I think of him and I knew what he was trying to do but then, I wished I could just walk up to him and let him know that no matter how much he tried to get me back, he wasn’t ever going to stand the chance.
And I chuckled softly as I remembered the craziest incident that happened earlier today. I knew she was definitely going to be angry at me but then, I never knew she would go on talking and talking and most importantly, I didn’t expect her to start talking about her crush on Clark.
And halfway through my thought, my phone beeped twice as I stretched my hand to pick up my phone. It was a text message from Marie, and just as expected, she had dropped a message that had up to 10 angry emojis.
She was venting her anger, and I couldn’t help but laugh as I knew she wasn’t in any way going to do anything. And before I could even respond to her SMS message, another message from her dropped and this time around, it was about Clark being in the office with her.
I shook my head as I looked at the SMS message repeatedly. “Will this girl ever change?” I chuckled softly as I dropped my phone back on the cabinet.
I rolled my eyes as I looked at the mirror for the last time, before I retired to bed. I exhaled lightly as I laid down on the bed and suddenly, thoughts of Collins Morgan crossed my mind as I couldn’t help but smile. I couldn’t stop thinking about him but then, why was I even thinking about him in the first place? I whined as I curled myself on the bed. And within a few minutes, I had drifted into a deep sleep as I was completely exhausted already.
*****Rex’s POV*****
“Are you insane?” Clark scowled as he looked at me. “You had me order to get the records from the bar and you want to leave?” He scowled as he looked at me.
“Can you not at least pick at me?” I rolled my eyes as I looked at him. I got up from my swivel chair as I paced around the room. “Elena left an hour ago.” I mumbled as I looked at him.
“And talking about Elena. What exactly is her work here as your personal secretary? She is meant to serve as your assistant, Rex. But all I have been noticing so far is that she does absolutely nothing.” Clark scowled as he looked at me.
I could see the disappointment on his face as he looked at me. “Without drama, then trust me, you don’t even stand a chance in getting her back.” He scoffed as he looked at me.
“Oh! Now I get it.” He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at me. “Don’t tell me you are trying to keep her so close so that she ends up not meeting anyone? Is it?” He queried as he raised his eyebrows.
I remained quiet as I looked at him. There was an atom of truth in what he just said, but then, there was absolutely no way I was going to admit to that. I looked at him as I rolled my eyes, feigning disappointment towards his conclusion.
“We are running out of time, you know that Rex. We need to return to Cleveland and help your mother, Alice. You need to create little dramas every day if possible.” He mumbled as he looked at me.
I tilted my lips as I looked at him. “Noted.” I shrugged as I picked up my coat and my briefcase.
“And what about the record?” He questioned as he looked at me.
“It can stay till tomorrow. For now, I’m tired.” I forced out a smile as I looked at him.
“And what about Marie? My personal assistant.” He questioned as he looked at me.
“She can find her way home.” I snapped as I looked at him.
“Find her way home?” He rolled his eyes in disbelief as he looked at me.
“I was just joking.” I chuckled softly as I looked at him. “We can find a taxi for her.” I shrugged as I looked at him.
“You know what? I will just drop her off. I still have my Maybach in the parking lot. I will catch up with you later today.” He responded as he looked at me for a while, waiting for my approval.
I nodded my head in approval as I looked at him. And without saying an extra word.
“Okay. That’s fine then.” He said with a smile as he looked at me. “I will be home in no time.” He shrugged as he walked away.
I forced out a smile as I watched him leave. I stepped out as I entered my car, then I sat down for a while. I exhaled lightly as I imagined everything Clark had said. “But what if being dramatic only ends up chasing her away from me, for good?” I whimpered as I remained inconclusively.
