Chapter 75

Book:The Alpha's Hot Chase After Divorce Published:2025-2-25

CLEVELAND. Connor & Co Real Estate Firm.
Helen’s POV.
There was something soothing about the lawyer’s party that Kingsley held, and for the first time, I stayed up really late at night. Even though my body was exhausted from meeting new people.
I loved everything about Cleveland, and having Kingsley spend the remaining hours of the party with me was super fantastic. I must say, he isn’t just a devilishly hot CEO but a one hell of a crazy Alpha male.
And today, I was more than excited about returning to work. As a young lawyer, I knew I had a lot to do, and growing up in New Kingston and being a member of one of the powerful founding families in New Kingston, I knew what being a lawyer came with.
I missed the whole night partying with Owen, Jack, Tricia, Logan and Peterson. Logan was the youngest amongst us but then, he was regarded as our equal because he was from the most powerful founding families, and his father, Alphonso Bohen was the reason I was in Cleveland land.
I walked inside the Connor & Co building and it was just like the first day as his eyes fell on me again like it was the first time they were seeing me. My pointed, high heels wouldn’t stop drawing more attention to me as I walked down to the elevator.
“Hello, beautiful?” I heard a familiar voice, causing me to pause as I turned around.
I felt my stomach ache immediately as I looked at Kingsley who was smoking hot. He had his hair neatly brushed and his eyes were fixed to mine as he wore a light hearted smile.
“Hope you had a beautiful night?” He muttered as he looked at me.
“Ye… yeah. I… did.” I stuttered as I looked at him.
“Hope you enjoyed the lawyer’s party I hosted?” He said with a broad smile as he pressed the elevator, then it dinged open.
“F*ck!!” I cursed as I rolled my eyes. “How could I have forgotten that I had to press the button?” I groaned as I looked at the elevator.
“Are you okay?” He asked as he smiled at me.
“Yeah. And about the lawyer’s party, thank you.” I said as I forced out a smile. “I loved it.” I muttered.
“Loved it?” He chuckled softly as we walked into the elevator.
I looked at him as I couldn’t figure out what he meant by placing emphasis on my remark concerning the lawyer’s party.
“Don’t you think that saying that you loved it is an understatement?” He snapped as he pressed the exact floor which led to his office.
“Oh! About that?” I chuckled softly. “It was worth my time and, thank you for keeping me company. I literally was all to myself not until you came.” I muttered as I forced out a smile on my face.
It was weird saying but then, I cared less as far as I had him off my neck.
“Oh! Thank you.” He grinned as he looked at me again.
“Will you be busy tonight?” He asked, drawing my attention back to him after a few minutes of silence.
I turned around as my eyes went wide. I remained quiet as his question left me speechless. I felt a bit uncomfortable but then, he was the exact reason I was here in Cleveland.
“But why me?” I groaned as I shook my head.
“Is that a no for an answer?” He asked as he looked at me.
“Darn it!!” I cursed within myself as I raised my eyes up to look at him. “No, not at all.” I replied with a smile on my face as my cheeks flustered with so much emotion.
“So, is that a yes?” He asked again as he looked at me.
“Yeah.” I smiled as I looked away immediately.
I could feel my legs trembling now and if care wasn’t taken, then I might have to take off my heels before they end up breaking.
It got to my floor as I stepped out. I was now officially in the law department in the firm and we had almost nothing to do each day.
We all shared a luxurious apartment that had three long sofas and a small table in the middle and then a television as well. The room had four air conditioners in total, a mini kitchen and a room that had our different working desks.
I still couldn’t get him off my head and the moment I walked in, I saw all the lawyers. They all had this smiley face as I walked in.
I saw a familiar face from the party. He had this grin on his face as he looked at me.
“Hello, umm, Helen?” He said with a smile as he looked at me.
I was shocked that he still remembered my name and for some reason, I was edgy whenever it came to him. He was clearly flirting with me and the pictures I had in my head of him, sitting down inside and drinking, that was a huge turn off, especially when I saw how he had disrespected one of the ladies who were serving the drinks.
I forced out a smile as I looked at him. “Yeah, Helen.” I muttered as I looked at him again, forcing out another smile.
“Didn’t see you around later that night.” He muttered as he walked up to where I stood.
“Oh! About that. I was with Kingsley.” I looked at him as I saw him wear a frown.
And without wasting time, he was off my track as I walked down to my desk. It had my name on it and I loved the spot it was. I chuckled as I remembered my discussion with Kingsley on the night of the lawyer’s party.
I sat down on my office chair as I plugged in one ear of my airpod. I enjoyed the no distractions and no one coming to ask questions about a case or anything as it was just my first day at work officially.
