Marie’s POV.
“Aunty. Marie.” Kanu and Kiana screamed at the top of their voices the moment I stepped in. “We have missed you a lot.” Kiana said with so much excitement in her voice as I carried them up.
“I have missed you both too.” I said with a broad smile, then kissed both of them. “And how has school been?” I asked them, while I looked at both of them.
“I made new friends today.” Kiana mumbled as she looked at me.
I could feel the full blown excitement as she went on talking about her newly made friends.
Elena stepped out from the kitchen as she looked at me. I could see she was stressed out and she wasn’t in the mood to have any chat. I dropped Kanu and Kiana down as I allowed them to continue with their play.
“Hey, you don’t look good. Are you okay?” I asked as I looked at her. She rolled her eyes as she looked at me.
“I am. You know, I still can’t explain what Rex is up to. Why would he make me his personal secretary in the first place?” She sighed as she rolled her eyes, then she dropped the plates on the table.
“Same here. I feel so much heat working that close to his beta, Clark. He keeps staring at me and I find it impossible not to stare at him.” I whimpered as I looked at Elena.
Elena tilted her lips as she looked at Marie. “Yours is something completely different and you know that. You are in love with him, but in my case, I am doing my best to stay away from Rex and no matter how hard I try, I find it impossible to achieve that. He is just everywhere and it is annoying.” She sighed as she dished the food.
“Kanu? Kiana? Come over here.” She said as she looked at them. Without wasting a single minute, they came running down to the dining table as they sat down on their respective chairs.
“So what are your plans?” I asked her as I looked right into her eyes. “What if you end up getting attracted to him again? How do you plan on coping with that?” I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at her.
“Getting attracted? Please come off it, Marie.” She rolled her eyes, knocking off the thought before it even got established in her head.
“How sure are you about that?” I queried as I tilted my lips.
She ignored me as she rolled her eyes, then she started eating her meal after we had a short prayer.
And right after our dinner, she had sent them to bed, then returned back to the sitting room to sit down next to me.
“So what else has been happening? How do you blend in perfectly well?” I asked, while I looked at her.
“No. Nothing new yet.” She replied as she rolled her eyes.
“How many times do you have to roll your eyes after answering me?” I scoffed as I chuckled softly, then I looked at her eyes which were heavy already.
“Oh!” She gasped as she looked at me. “I even bumped into a strange guy. I don’t just know but he appears mysterious to me. Works on the beach in the bar section. He was shocked after I told him I was Rex’s personal secretary.” She chuckled softly.
And for the first time in half an hour, I finally saw her cherry smile.
“Mysterious guy?” I scowled as I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at her. “Mind telling me about this mysterious guy?” I inquired as I looked at her.
“Nothing special about him for now. All I know is that he is the new acting supervisor.” She said with a broad smile.
“Hmm.” I exhaled. “And you already feel he is mysterious?” I asked as I looked at her eyes. “Mind telling me how you came across him?” I asked further as I was now more than curious to know who this mysterious guy was.
“He bumped into me, and my files fell to the ground and he helped me in arranging it.” She mumbled as she looked at me.
“Oh! That is a perfectly kind man.” I responded as I looked out, then I smiled effortlessly as I imagined how it all happened.
“A perfectly kind man?” She scowled as she looked at me. “I felt he was trying to flirt with me and trust me, looking at his hazel eyes and long eyelashes, trust me, it all felt weird seeing a guy with long eyelashes and to mention that it was my first time seeing a guy with hazel eyes. And he also had freckles, light brown freckles for goodness sake.” She snapped as she looked at me.
“Come on, Elena. You are just the one overthinking things here. As far as I am concerned, he was only being nice and that is all.” I mumbled as I rolled my eyes, then I dragged her cheeks. “Come on, baby girl. Wear some smile at least and stop overthinking things and also being pessimistic.” I shrugged as I embraced her warmly.
“I need to return to my house. I don’t want to be late to work tomorrow. I can’t say what Clark is up to. So in order not to fall into his bad side, I always need to be early to work.” I responded as I looked at Elena who forced out a smile.
She got up as she walked me down to the door, then she waved me goodbye as I walked down to my block. I turned back as I looked at her, and she forced out a smile again, as she looked at me before I walked into my apartment.
I felt my heart drop as my phone beeped twice. It was a message from Clark which clearly read, “Be early to work tomorrow. Sleep well, beautiful.”
I felt my heartbeat become irregular as I was still in shock. “What is he up to?” I groaned.
