Collins’ POV.
My great mood hadn’t faded by the time I returned back to the bar which was located on the beach. I looked at the lovely and lively serenity as I watched how it was calm, and I could hear the waves of the sea. I loved the harmonious view of it and finally, I felt like this was where my long run was definitely coming to an end.
I still couldn’t get the lady I bumped into out of my head, and I couldn’t deny the fact that she was the reason why I was still having this excitement inside me. My first day as the newly employed supervisor was going perfectly fine.
I wished to see more of her but then, ‘what if I never get to see her again?’ I groaned at the thought of it as I remembered that she wasn’t just any worker here, but she was the personal secretary of the boss himself.
I turned around as I looked at the skyscraper which was so high, that the sun could possibly blind the eyes of anyone who dared to look that high.
I turned on my current favorite song as I wanted a perfect blend into my beautiful day and my soon-to-be beautiful love story. I fell in love with every line in ‘Until I found you’ by Sanchez Stephen.’
All my life, I remained single as my life remained messed up, juggling in between cities. And for the first time in years, I felt like nothing, absolutely nothing can ruin my stay in New Kingston, not even my annoying neighbors who always happened to ruin my evening with their constant noise and fights.
I was loving every bit of New Kingston and couldn’t love it any better. I sat down on the bar chair as I watched the workers clean up the bar, getting ready for the evening, because families and lovers definitely will come trooping in and out.
I leaned on the counter as I wore a broad smile on my face as I thought of the lady. “What is her name again?” I whined as I raised my eyebrows. “Yeah!” I chuckled softly as I remembered her name. “Elena.” I mumbled with a broad smile.
“Hello, good morning.” A young man in his early thirties walked into the bar with a young looking, slender lady.
From her facial appearance and body movement, I could confidently say that she was in her early twenties or mid twenties, but there was a beautiful age difference.
“Can I get some lemonade? Two!!” He said as he smiled at me.
“Yeah, sure.” I responded with a smile as I arranged his order and in a few minutes, he was out with his lady.
I loved the liberty that came with my work. Being the supervisor, I could leave anytime, but one thing I shouldn’t dare do was missing out on checking the daily records of the bar.
I had moved to New Kingston with my younger sister and her two kids which I had enrolled in New Kingston Preliminary School. It was a bit far from my workplace, but wasn’t that far from where I had rented but then, it wasn’t an issue after all, I had my motorcycle which still functioned properly well.
I took off my rectangular, black crest that had my name imprinted on it, as I hopped on my motorcycle, then drove off to the school to pick them up.
“Heyy, Uncle Collins.” They screamed at the top of their voices as they ran down to me. I squatted a bit as I embraced both of them.
“Hey, Felix. Hope you had a great day blending in today?” I raised my eyebrows as I looked at him.
“Yes, I did.” He chuckled as he responded to my question.
“And how about you, Veronica?” I questioned as I looked at her, fixing my eyes directly on her.
“I also had a great day.” She screamed excitedly as she jumped off. “And… I also made new friends today too.” She said in a whisper as she pointed at the twins that stood at a stone throw distance as they stared back at me.
“Oh! Such beautiful twins.” I muttered as I looked at them.
I saw the reluctance in their eyes and chuckled softly, as I got up and walked down to where they stood.
“Hello, lovelies.” I winked at them as I smiled broadly. “My name is Collins.” I first introduced myself as I was trying to make them comfortable.
“Kiana.” The little girl replied as she forced out a smile. I could still see the defiance on the boy’s face.
I was amazed by how smart he was. I looked at him as I maintained a smiley face.
“I guess I am not allowed to know your name. Is it?” I shrugged as I smiled at him. “I guess your mom says, ‘Don’t talk to strangers.’ I mumbled calmly as I looked at him.
“Kanu.” He finally said his name as he looked at me.
I smiled at him, then turned back to Felix and Veronica. “Okay, it’s time to go home.” I carried Felix and Veronica in my hand as they chuckled.
“So, won’t you say goodbye to your friends?” I said with a smile, as Felix and Veronica waved the twins goodbye, while I carried them to where I had parked my motorcycle.
I drove them home, then I dropped them with my sister, Dahlia. And then, I drove back to The Eleven as I rushed back to the bar. I entered the small office which was meant for only the supervisor. I relapsed on the chair as I kept looking at the clock.
And again, I couldn’t stop thinking about the lady I met earlier. “Why am I so drawn to her?” I shrugged as I raised my head upward.
It was finally the closing hour. I stayed back as I arranged the record for the day and the moment I was done, I hopped on my motorcycle, then drove down to the grocery store to get a few things.
