Logan’s POV.
I saw the shock on her face the moment I announced to her that Liam Bohen was dead and that’s who we were all here to bury.
“Liam Bohen!?” She exclaimed in shock as she looked at me.
“When did he die? How did he die? How come no one knew of it? Even the media never publicized it, why?”
She went on asking me four questions which I kept count of. I raised my eyebrows as I looked at her and our eyes met again.
“He died a few days back. He was murdered. We decided to keep it a secret for now and from today, this very minute, you are now a part of this secret because you are my personal assistant.” I responded as I smiled briefly.
“It is a position that only a pack member occupies. So, consider yourself as family now.” I added as I looked away.
Some men loyal to my father were seen digging the grave where Liam would be laid to rest and on the other end, my father stood there with a few of the elders, they were all neatly dressed in pinstripe black suits like some crazy, psychotic mafia. He had a domineering aura and it was clearly visible. They talked at length and it was obvious that my father was half broken and was in search of the murderer.
But the big question was, ‘will they ever get to catch the murderer?’
The first person who happens to be the prime suspect just happened to have narrowly escaped and not just that, he went ahead in securing the biggest hotel in New Kingston as well.
I rolled my eyes as I looked away. And on the other end, my mother sat down on a couch and she was surrounded by other women, wives to the elders. We were more or less a large pack, a syndicate family. We shared a cult-like attitude and just like tonight, this happens to be one of it.
It was finally time and we stepped down from the car and everyone gathered. The gawking of birds could be heard and the howling of animals in the bayou close to the graveyard sent down cold chills. I saw Alicia tremble, I loved the whole girlish vibes she was giving.
“Are you okay!?” I turned to her with a one-sided smile. “We just started and you are already trembling in fear. You have absolutely nothing to worry about, trust me.” I said with a smile as I turned back to the eldest pack member who happened to be the priest.
We stood still as we watched them carry his casket and they laid it at the front of the dug area. And it was just like it opened all the healing wounds as tears rolled down from people’s eyes. My dad, Alphonso remained unmoved and perfectly fine now but then, he couldn’t deceive me with those looks. I knew he had something going on. He had a lot of investigations going on behind my back, behind everyone’s back. That was how secretive he could be.
One of the men had removed the white pall as Liam’s face was now visible. I saw his face, and he still looked perfect inside that casket. I smirked as I rolled my eyes.
“Put yourself together, Logan! Put yourself together!!” I exhaled sharply as I cleaned my eyes.
“Dear beloved, we gather here today solely to bid farewell to our son, Liam Bohen, who was taken away from us by the cold hands of this world but we are comforted by the fact that he has gone to a better place, in the beloved hands of the moon goddess. And his time on earth, every moment he spent with us and every beautiful memory we shared together, we are consoled by that. And it is a heartbreaking moment for every one of us that we gather here to bury our own, heir to the throne. And let us take solace in the memories of our dearest and loving Liam Bohen. And may his legacy live on and may we reckon this day and forever that he lives on in our hearts.
Let us pray: Dear moon goddess, we commend Liam Bohen to your loving care. And let him have a free passage to your bosom, where there will be nothing sorrowful but everything peaceful. Amen.” The priest said in a conclusive voice as everyone present chorused ‘Amen’ as well.
And then, we took turns to make little speeches about Liam Bohen. “Do you expect to hear anything bad about someone on his burial day?” I chuckled softly as I looked at Alicia who now seemed to be fitting in pretty fast.
She shook her head with a smile as she kept staring at everyone and also, her eyes never stayed too long away from the casket.
“I guess we are done here!!” The priest said with a smile on his face.
I saw his eyes get fixed on Alicia’s eyes and I noticed her eyes became uneasy as I could hear her heart race fast now.
“You have absolutely nothing to worry about!!” I said in a whisper as I looked at the priest. “Everyone knows you are new around here.”
“I… I am okay. I just.”
“You don’t have to explain yourself. I understand.” I turned to her with a smile on my face and she forced a smile to reciprocate mine.
And what followed next were the final goodbyes from everyone as we walked down one after the other to drop a rose flower on the casket which was now inside the ground and was about to be covered up again. The block right above the ground had his name inscribed to it already and right after that, they filled up the grave and within a few minutes, every one receded to their cars as we returned back to the pack house.
I had Othello drive her down to her house as I stopped over to get a few things done. It was almost prom night. I groaned.
