Rex POV
“And what about this?” He asked again as he dropped another envelope on the table.
“Remember this?” He grinned as he looked at me.
“You must not forget they are some dirty ass cops under Bohen’s payroll. So, don’t let them get to you.” Clark muttered, using the mind link.
“I had to check for the footage. And you know, the video of this happens to be a little more gruesome, watching how you attacked a young boy, probably twice your age. Why didn’t you attack Liam instead? Ohh! I get it. It’s all some brilliant Alpha tactics. You knew killing his beta would weaken him and then, you could take him down easily like some kid.” Jack chuckled as he displayed all the photos on the table.
“And what would I gain from killing two minors? They are way below my league and if I wanted territory, I would have gone for Alphonso instead and not his heir.” I snapped as I got up from the couch.
“We are not done here, Mr. Rex.”
“I wasn’t going either. I thought to myself, ‘why not entertain your guests.'” I smiled effortlessly as I walked into the kitchen to get some 6 sodas for the six of us present.
“Here we go!!” I said as I served the chilled sodas and I saw the way they looked at each other.
I know that look. The look of ‘What is he up to.’ I smirked as I quickly opened mine as I gulped in a larger amount.
“So, what other accusations do you have?” I said with a smile on my face.
Jack cleared his throat as he dropped his soda untouched on the table.
“Accusations? What would anyone gain by making accusations here?” He grinned as he sat upright and his eyes fixed with mine.
“You know, this is New Kingston and I make sure no culprit gets out alive. I had my best team hack into your system to find out that you browsed about the Bohen’s family the next day after your confrontation with Liam Bohen at the club. You checked out his Gram as well as going through different searches. Why so much interest?” He queried.
“So much interest? As I said, the reason I’m here is because I want to expand my business empire. Got a few tips on the Bohen’s family after my encounter with Liam Bohen who was almost abusing a bartender. Was shocked with his behavior and decided to do some checkup before booking an appointment with Alpha Alphonso.” I said in defense as I sipped my side, sitting comfortably on the couch.
I couldn’t let my guard down. Not now. And I was trying to be very careful with my choice of words.
For Clark, he had no business with whatever was going on but was obliged to stay because he was my beta.
Jack chuckled softly as he looked at me. “And what was your conclusion? Why didn’t you go ahead with your plan of booking an appointment with the Alpha?” He sneered.
“Liam was definitely going to take over the Bureau. Alphonso isn’t that strong as before and sooner or later, he would pass down the throne to Liam. Did you expect me to push the appointment ahead after seeing the kinda man Liam was? Hell no!! I keep to professional business ethics and respect my staffs and ladies as well. I can’t ruin my firm I struggled so hard to build because of some business expansion I planned on doing.” I growled in a light tone.
“I see. So why are you still in New Kingston then?” He grinned.
“Because I have a big business deal to make by dawn tomorrow.” I snapped immediately.
“Big business deal?” I heard Clark roar in shock and this stinging betrayal as well of how I never made mention of any business deal to him.
“Not convincing enough. We will be back by tomorrow morning to check up on you and maybe, have a toast on your new business deal here in New Kingston.” Jack smirked.
I grinned as I knew what he was trying to insinuate. He was only going to come back tomorrow to know if there was any ongoing business deal.
They all got up and we shook hands before they left.
“What business deal were you referring to, Rex? What were you trying to pull there? You heard him right? He is going to be back tomorrow morning and what next? Do you even have any proof? I think you just took us from the frying pan to the fire now, Rex!!” He whined as he kept pacing round the room.
“Can you just calm down and let me think? I will fix this!!” I scowled as I glared at him.
“Fix this? Did I just hear you say ‘fix this’ Rex?” He gasped. “I was expecting an apology for keeping secrets and then, you telling me about the big business deal and what did I get? ‘Fix this!’ which means there’s no business deal in the first place? Huh!?” He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at me.
I rolled my eyes as I wasn’t ready to put up with his dramatic self right now. He would always go all frenzy when panicking and I wonder how the moon goddess had him become my beta.
I walked inside my room as I slammed the door, locking it as well to prevent Clark from coming in.
I crashed down on the bed as I opened my laptop. “How the fuck did they hack into my system?” I snarled as I dropped it back on the cabinet next to the bed.
I changed my outfit to a pinstripe brown suit giving these 1960s mafia styles as I rushed out, grabbed the car key and dashed out without saying a word to Clark or paying attention to whatever he was saying.
All I knew was that I wasn’t going to jail and ruining what brought me here. I wasn’t going to lose my chances of being together with Elena and my beautiful adorable kids.
