Alicia’s POV.
I jolted up in fear as I picked up a pillow in defense as I looked at what fell down from the window.
My room was at the top of the house which made it easy for anyone to get in as far as the person was good enough when it comes to climbing trees and one person who was no longer allowed through the front door was Amelia and yet, she wouldn’t take my suggestion of calling me instead of jumping into my room through the window.
“I… I… sorry for still using the window today. I know it’s pretty early for that!!” She quickly apologized as she was breathing fast and unsteadily.
“One day, you’ll get a knife through your heart because you never listen!!” I rolled my eyes as I dropped the pillow back on the bed.
My right hand was on my chest as it was beating fast too.
“Why didn’t you call? I told you Amelia, always call when you want to see me. And you know their room is right beneath mine so probably, I guess one of them is headed up here already to scold me for whatever noise it was.” I scowled as I looked at her with an obvious frown on my face.
“Come on, Alicia, I already apologized. Isn’t that enough already?” She tilted her lips as she stared at me, giving me those puppy eyes again.
“Do you know how much I hate getting scolded by that woman?” I cursed as I got up from my mini bed that couldn’t even contain me well enough.
And the moment I got up from my bed, my eyes met with those raging eyes the moment the door slid open.
“And what was that noise?” She yelled at me as she looked at the window and yes, I guess today happens to be the day I get to leave the house for letting the one girl she had stopped from coming into the house in.
She remained quiet as she scanned the room like she was finding something else and I was forced to take a turn back before I started with my whole apologizing.
“Huh? Where did she go?” I gasped in shock as my face brightened up and my heartbeat slowed down immediately as I turned back to look at those raging eyes again.
“What was that noise? Must you always find a way to ruin my morning hours? Huh? Tell me, must you?” She growled with her right hand on her waist and her left hand, resting at the edge of the door.
“I promise it won’t repeat itself again.” I quickly apologized as I lowered my head.
It wasn’t something new. She had hundreds of rules I must abide by but there were absolutely no rules for her two little annoying kids who wouldn’t stop adding to my frustrations.
In order to have a shelter above my head, I must keep to her rules and sadly, even if my dad was still alive, he was useless to me.
I hate the day my beautiful family came crumbling down and that was one reason I despised love so much.
I wished my mother never got to find out that my father has been cheating on her with her so-called best friend who now stood before me with those raging eyes, ready to torment me again or possibly remind me of my miserable life.
And out of rage, out of pains of my father’s betrayal, she packed up her stuff and drove off and that was the last day I had a beautiful family.
She had an auto crash, spent three months in a coma before dying and my dad? He went ahead to marry her best friend who was already pregnant with his kids and a year later, fell into depression, his business crashed, he became a drunkard, nothing but a weakling and a few nights in his drunk state, he had tried taking advantage of his own daughter.
And what next, he would apologize when he was in his right senses. I couldn’t hate him more than this because he was the only family I knew, the only family I had left. Sometimes, I wished I had a sibling but then, luck wasn’t on my side as my mom died in her second month of being pregnant.
“The next time you ruin my morning hours, I promise you that you will pack your trash and leave this house. How pathetic you are!!” She cursed as she slammed the door hard.
“Really?” She held my right arm, causing me to panic again as I turned to look at her.
“How… many times will you get me scared, Amelia?” I snarled as tears blurred my vision.
“Are you being serious right now? Crying because of what she said to you? Come on, girl. If it was me, I would have given her a dirty punch and then, pack my stuffs and get the fuck outta here for good because either ways, I would still get my ass kicked out of here.” Amelia scowled as she wiped off my tears as they rolled down my cheeks.
“Now is your chance to get yourself out of all these. Look around you, a two storey building and yet, you live in an attic? Come on, Alicia.” She whimpered as she looked at me.
“I told you before, there is absolutely no way I am going to consider the invitation mail from the Bohen’s Bureau, no way, Amelia.” I sighed as I rolled my eyes. “As far as I am concerned, they are not good people and I don’t want to end up like some of their previous lawyers who filed a lawsuit against the bureau and yet, got no justice.” I whined as I looked at her.
“Are you sure you want to do this? What next when she kicks you out?” She sneered as she looked at me. “Once you get a good place, save up as well, you can resign and get a different job. Maybe somewhere you feel secure.” She mumbled as she looked at me, patiently waiting for my response.
I smiled and nodded and she screamed as she wrapped me in her arms with her left hand, covering her mouth.
