Rex’s POV.
“So, what’s your next plan? It’s obvious that she doesn’t want you back. I think she’s still healing from your betrayal.” Clark said as he sat down on the couch next to me.
“It’s been five years, Clark. And if I never cared, why am I here? Why am I in New Kingston when I have a multimillion empire to worry about?” I sighed as I relapsed on the couch.
“You don’t expect her to throw herself on you, Rex!!” Clark furrowed. “You have to earn it.”
“Earn what exactly!?” I snapped in annoyance and frustration.
“You have to earn her trust. You have to at least earn a little of her love and with that, maybe you could be able to convince her to return to Cleveland, to the pack.” He responded as he sipped the coffee in front of me.
“Are you being serious right now?” I got up on my feet as I stared sternly at him.
“Are you aware that she doesn’t even give me the space I need to be able to prove to her that she’s the reason I returned to New Kingston?” I sighed as I got up from the couch. “She has her life all fixed. A good job, a good apartment and also, a trusted friend who happens to be the godmother of my kids. What else does she even need?” I scoffed, cursing myself beneath.
“Are you seriously asking that, Rex?” He looked at me, giving me those shocking eyes to my conclusion.
“What is left is protection. She wouldn’t keep you away from your kids because eventually, someday they might come looking for you. And come on, Rex. Right now, you just have to remain positive and think smart. The moment your enemies get to know about Elena’s whereabouts, truth is that they will come hunting down because they won’t be happy that you have got two smart kids.” He scowled as he looked at me.
“But…”
“No ‘but’ again, Rex!! Don’t you know how to get a little bit romantic? Huh!? Don’t be some boring d! ckhead.” He cursed this time around.
“You still have time to get her back and you know, you better be fast as well before some young looking man comes in and sweeps her off her feet.” He said this time around and I could hear the warning as well.
“There is no way she will get married to someone else when I’m still in the picture, oh c’mon, Clark!! Can’t you not just make it worse?” I groaned as I gave him a glare.
“Still in the picture?” He snapped as he furrowed his right eyebrow. “If you really want to be in the picture, then I think you have to get really serious with it. All you seem interested in right now is your kids and probably, she must have come to a conclusion that the only reason why you are here in New Kingston is because of the kids. And trust me, if she feels so already, you will have a hard time convincing her because she will only be overprotective.” He said calmly.
“And trust me, Rex!! You won’t want her to feel that way. Everything you should be concerned about is how you can get really close to her. Make her know you really want her back.” He snapped, flicking his right thumb and index finger together.
I groaned because I was completely out of ideas. “How possible is it when it comes to being close with her?” I snapped as I got up.
“You know what, how about we go out for an evening walk today? I just need to clear my head. I can’t think straight any longer.” I mumbled as I forced out a smile.
One thing I enjoyed the most was indulging in evening walks. The cool, warm and soothing breeze happens to be everything needed to calm down the nerves.
I couldn’t stop myself from thinking how exactly I could get that close to her. There was absolutely no way and also, there is no way Clark expected me to always visit the bar because I just wanted to be close to her.
“An evening walk?” Clark snapped as he looked at me in a strange manner. “It’s been a month here in New Kingston, right? You haven’t talked about having an evening walk and all of a sudden, you want an evening walk!?” He queried as he furrowed his eyebrows.
“I just want to clear my head a bit, maybe I can get some fresh ideas and a better plan in winning her back and being able to convince her to return to the pack.” I shrugged as I looked at him.
“And I failed to mention, I got an info, Liam Bohen is dead. He was murdered yesterday’s evening and the cops are out there searching for whoever was behind the death.”
“What? Murdered?”
“Yeah, he had his heart stabbed. And the blade contained wolfsbane as well. And from my Intel, you might be a major suspect.” He slurred this time around as he looked away, avoiding eye contact with me.
“Why am I a prime suspect here?” I slammed as I stared at Clark who was still avoiding making any eye contact with me.
“What do you expect? You were the one who landed Pedro in the hospital and he got murdered in the hospital as well. No known enemy yet. And secondly, you’re the only Alpha in their territory. Doesn’t that count?” He queried as he finally looked at me.
I exhaled sharply as I wrapped my hand in a fist. I knew all along this was definitely going to happen when Pedro got killed in the hospital.
“And please, don’t ruin this!! Play cool in order to prove your innocence. Pedro’s sudden death and then, Liam’s death. It’s still a mystery yet to be solved and sadly, we are now part of it.” Clark rolled his eyes this time around as he tapped my shoulder.
‘But then, who is behind the multiple killings? Who was trying to frame me up?’ My eyes glistened in rage.
