Chapter 39

Book:The Alpha's Hot Chase After Divorce Published:2025-2-25

Elena’s POV.
I had come to a conclusion and that was, ‘there was absolutely no way I was returning back to Cleveland and to Rex’s pack as well.’
When I secretly left the pack five years ago, I had to go through so many difficulties and as well as having a hard time being an expecting mother and luckily for me, God had sent Marie my way.
I looked at Marie who was busy playing with Kanu and Kiana like they were her own kids. I smiled as I continued with dressing the bed.
I stole a glance of myself in the mirror that hung directly opposite me as I smiled.
“I won’t allow him to ruin my beautiful life here in New Kingston. Never!!” I said to myself as I looked at the mirror.
Luckily for me, I had a good job in The Eleven and it also came with a good pay that could help me clear my outstanding bills as well as sending them to school as well.
And this chapter of my life? I was dedicating it to having the best moments of my life.
“Hey girl, what are your plans for the weekend?” Marie asked as she looked at me.
She had sent Kanu and Kiana to bed after giving them fruit snacks and yogurt.
We would always go into an argument on how she kept spoiling them with sweet stuff and junk as well. But no matter how much I complained, Marie wouldn’t just give in at all.
“Have you forgotten we will be having a long night in the bar on Friday?” I gave her those eyes of ‘thank God is Friday.’
“How come I totally forgot!?” She grumbled this time around as she looked at me. “But… our shift will be done by 4a. m in the morning and we can drive home straight and get some sleep.” She said in a suggestive tone as she tilted her lips.
“You know I also have to attend to Kanu’s and Kiana’s assignments too and also know how they are fairing with their new class and also, spend some quality time with them.” I furrowed my eyebrows.
I wasn’t ready to buy her idea of going out on Saturday. There were a whole lotta things to get done, cleaning the house, arranging for the next week, doing the laundry, and also spending time with my two little adorable kids.
It was always one day in and one day out, which meant I had 3-4 night’s night shifts every week.
I miss having them curled up in my arms like I was the only thing they ever knew. I miss taking in their rich scents in my nose and caressing their hairs and waking up with them still curled up in my arms or being on my body already and doing their best to have me get up.
“Come on, can’t we just find a way? Let’s just have some girlie time together.” She shrugged this time around as she kept those pulpy eyes.
“There’s no way that is working on me. We could go to the park and spend some time with them. All four together, Marie.” I snapped as I looked at her. “I need more time with my kids.”
“And how about you drop them off with their dad?” She slurred as she looked away.
“Can you not talk about him right now, Marie? You know he is the last person I want to talk about right now. And there is no way I will let him spend so much time with my kids.” I said in a serious tone now as I looked at Marie whose eyes were now fixed to mine.
She smiled as she arranged the dining table. “Okay then, I guess it’s going to be another girlie sleepover at my place again.” She winked at me, pointing up her right thumb. I smiled in approval as I did the dishes.
“But… how long do you plan on pushing him away?”
“As long as I can until he leaves New Kingston for good.” I replied with a smile on my face.
“Oh! Don’t give me that look.” She whined as she stared at me. “I know that look, the ‘my next escape plan’ and trust me, I told you before girlie that you should rub that off your mind because there is no way I will let you take Kanu and Kiana away from me. I will just die.” She giggled as she placed her hand on her chest.
“I won’t leave here for anybody. How can I leave my job because of him? No way.” I chuckled softly as I looked at her.
“And ever since I arrived here in New Kingston, you have always had my back and there is absolutely no way I’m leaving you here and you are not even ready to move too.” I whined as I rolled my eyes.
“Oh! Not now, Elena. I haven’t just found the right man for me yet. So, just let me take things slowly.”
“How do you plan on getting a man when you said no New Kingston man is right for you and yet, you won’t leave New Kingston too?” I snapped as I looked at her, grinning from cheek to cheek as she shook her head in disapproval.
“Okay, no more about your husband…”
“Ex, actually!! He ceased being my husband since the day he sent me out of his pack.” I snapped immediately.
“Okay, no more talking about your ex who traces you down and wants you back all of a sudden and also, why I am still a young beautiful, single lady.” She smirked as she got up.
We both giggled as we sat down on the couch. There were so many things to talk about and anyone would mistake us for sisters. We kept on talking till it was late and our laughter soon echoed as well as we were far lost in the card game we were playing.
