Chapter 25

Book:The Alpha's Hot Chase After Divorce Published:2025-2-25

Rex’s POV.
I quickly prepared pasta with bacon which happened to be my favorite dish with eggs and added parmesan cheese I had bought earlier on.
Did I fail to mention that she was the reason I fell in love with bacon and scrambled eggs?
And when she left, I had to fall for Clark’s bacon. He was a pretty good cook.
I looked at her as she ate and every time I had something to say, I always had no other option than to let it slide.
I couldn’t stand ruining our dinner today. No way!! I exhaled sharply as I kept looking at her.
“Did she love it?” I muttered as I waited to hear her compliments like before. During my time off work, we spent time together in the kitchen, learning and trying different dishes.
I couldn’t wait to welcome my first child into the world and then my second and third, but then, it never came.
Looking at her right now, I wished I was patient enough. If I was just a little more patient, I wouldn’t have lost her.
I wouldn’t have been here in New Kingston, leaving my company in the care of my mother and here trying to bring my wife and my two precious little darlings back to where they belonged.
The thought of knowing that they had no idea of who their father is, still left a deep and sharp pain that I just couldn’t ignore.
I wanted them as badly as I wanted her right next to me. They were everything that mattered right now and I wouldn’t let anyone stand as a threat to their existence and whoever did, I was definitely going to bring an unending and unimaginable suffering to them.
“Why did you choose New Kingston?” I finally broke the silence as I poured in some juice inside my glass cup.
“For four years now, almost five years since you left, I have searched everywhere for you and yet, you just seemed like you disappeared from the surface of the earth.” I said in a calm voice as I looked at her.
“I must confess, you are beautiful and our kids, they have your lovely eyes.”
I miss waking up to your beautiful voice.” I paused as it ended in my head.
That sounded flirtatious and there was no way I was going to say that.
“So… what have you been up to lately?” I asked her as she paused for a while.
“Taking care of my kids.” She answered briefly as she looked at me.
I could see the hate in her eyes, or should I say, something lesser now. I saw the disappointment that lingered in her eyes as she looked at me.
“But did she really mean what she said earlier on? Does she want me out of her life for good?” I mumbled within as I kept staring at her.
Her food was still far from finishing. “I guess you are not enjoying my bacon.” I chuckled softly as I looked at her.
“I forgot how to make it. Clark has been the one helping out when we were away from the pack.” I muttered as I continued with my food.
“I know you are still angry at me but, if you could let me make it up to you. If you could let us start all afresh, a fresh start.”
“My answer remains the same, Rex. I am fine. And for the past five years being away from the pack, I learnt how to be strong on my own. You can go on seeing your kids but that should also be the limit. Don’t interfere, as you can see, I’ve got a job, I can handle my bills and they have a godmother who truly loves them.” She responded as she sipped her juice.
The bacon had stained the top side of her gown and I got up as I used my serviette to clean it off.
For a while, I felt my heart get steady. I felt this warmness that came with it and I felt her breath cease throughout the time I was cleaning the stain off.
“I need to be on my way now.” She said as she adjusted backwards as she exhaled sharply.
“It’s getting late and I have to report very early to work tomorrow.” She shrugged as she picked up her bag.
“I can take a cab.” She said as she looked at me.
I paused for a while before smiling. “There is no way I’m letting you take a cab while I’m here. It’s not safe!!” I snapped as I went ahead to take my keys.
“I will drop you off.” I said with a smile as I led the way as she followed me from behind.
I drove her back to her apartment and from there, drove down to the beach again.
I couldn’t drive back home as I couldn’t control my thoughts.
I groaned as I kept walking round circles, kicking sand and screaming out her name.
And the more I went through the circles over and over again, I felt my heart ache badly and I hated myself even more for chasing her out of my pack five years ago.
I drove back home as I saw Clark sitting on the couch with his legs crossed on the table as he was eating the pasta, bacon, eggs and the parmesan cheese as well.
“Oh!” He snapped as he jolted up, coughing as he held his chest. “I thought you decided to do some sleepover at her place!” He scoffed as he looked at me with his mouth filled with the pasta.
“Is there a single day that passes by without you picking at me? You know, I wish I could live without you. It might be a little bit helpful.” I sighed as I dropped the car key on the table.
He looked at me as he smiled broadly. “Oh! Come here, boy!!” He said as he dropped the plate on the table as he chased me round the parlor to get a hug.
