People around us were watching me and Lucian, likely speculating about our relationship. The boys at the Eagle Club were all popular with the girls. They had handsome faces and strong, muscular bodies-qualities no girl could resist.
The first match was between Lucian and a club member I didn’t know. Lucian had once told me that his boxing skills were average within the Eagle Club. Yet, many girls adored him. Back then, when he chose to be with me, I felt flattered. I handled our relationship with extreme care. But no matter how cautious I was, it still ended in tragedy. At least I found out the truth before it was too late, right?
Evelyn said to me, “Seraph, no matter what, I hope you don’t soften your heart. A man like him isn’t worth your attachment.”
“Don’t worry,” I replied. “Since I’ve decided to break up with him, I won’t go back.”
I could never forget the pain Lucian and Vivienne caused me that night. Even now, it lingers. Vivienne stood at the edge of the ring, accompanied by her cheerleading squad. They were all dressed in matching outfits-pink crop tops and skirts, holding golden pom-poms that shimmered under the lights.
As soon as Vivienne saw Lucian, she rushed over and hugged him. Watching her move among the boxing team members, I quickly averted my gaze. She was like a desperate bitch, throwing herself at any man in sight. Yet, all the men seemed to orbit around her.
I had no interest in watching Lucian’s match. I thought it would only taint my eyes. Instead, I pulled out my phone and started scrolling. If I couldn’t avoid the situation, I could at least distract myself. When the referee announced the start of the match, the atmosphere grew lively. The crowd cheered as the fight progressed. I couldn’t help but glance up. Lucian clearly had the upper hand. He attacked swiftly, dodging his opponent’s strikes with ease. Using a combination of jabs and hooks, he lunged forward, delivering a powerful punch that sent his opponent to the ground.
Lucian’s style in the ring was completely different from his usual demeanor. I only realized this today, as it was the first time I’d watched him fight live. A faint, sarcastic smile tugged at my lips. I lowered my head again, refusing to watch him. It felt meaningless.
The match ended half an hour later, with Lucian emerging victorious.
“Lucian’s looking at you, Seraph,” Evelyn suddenly said.
My heart skipped a beat, but I didn’t look up. I forced myself to stay composed. Two weeks ago, I would have been proud of him, and maybe even thrilled by his attention. But now it was apparently too late. I needed to cut all ties with Lucian. Even if the failed relationship still hurt, I wouldn’t go back.
I focused on the next matches. However, after watching Kael’s fight, I found the others rather dull. They lacked the skill and finesse that made Kael’s matches so captivating. This was a friendly competition, with participants from other clubs or local trainees. The audience consisted mostly of girls who genuinely admired the fighters, so the atmosphere remained electric the whole time.
The real excitement came when Kael finally stepped into the ring. The screams and applause were deafening. Rebecca had reminded me to cheer for Kael, so I clapped enthusiastically, louder than anyone around me. It was my only task for the day, and I was determined to do it well. Suddenly, Kael looked in my direction.
I was just one among many spectators, yet I could feel his deep brown eyes locking onto mine through the crowd. My heart raced uncontrollably. He was looking at me! In the past, I might have doubted it, thinking Kael couldn’t possibly spot me in such a large audience. But after everything that had happened, I no longer questioned it. Kael was definitely watching me. Someone who could move from one place to another in an instant surely had the ability to pick me out in a crowd.
Despite Kael’s mysterious nature, I found myself unafraid of him. Compared to him, the red-eyed werewolf terrified me more.
No one in the boxing club dared to challenge Kael. They all knew they were no match for him. So, every time Kael entered the ring, he would randomly select an opponent. This time, he pointed at Lucian in the crowd.
“Lucian, you’re up,” Kael said, his tone laced with a hint of mockery.
Lucian looked surprised but removed his robe and stepped into the ring. Once everything was set, the match began.
Kael’s popularity was undeniable. As soon as the fight started, the girls’ cheers grew deafening, and I joined in.
“Seraph, do you want Kael to beat up your ex?” Evelyn nudged me, joking.
“Haha, if possible, I’d love to see him get a good thrashing,” I replied with a laugh.
Jokes aside, I focused on the match. To my surprise, Kael launched a fierce attack on Lucian from the very beginning. He seemed to have already figured out Lucian’s patterns. There was no initial probing-Kael went straight for a jab, forcing Lucian to retreat and block.
Lucian tried to find an opening, but Kael kept pressing him. When Lucian attempted to push Kael’s fist away, he missed, leaving himself open. Kael seized the opportunity and landed a punch to Lucian’s abdomen.
Caught off guard, Lucian stumbled back a couple steps, barely saved by the ring’s ropes. His face twisted in discomfort. Kael’s strike had been powerful, and Lucian struggled to regain his footing.
