“Have you heard that werewolves have healing abilities? Their wounds heal instantly. Can they heal others too?”
Evelyn nodded. “There’s such a rumor. Are you saying the werewolf from last night healed the wound on your face?”
“After he appeared, the wound on my face disappeared.”
“That’s insane. He didn’t hurt you and even healed you?” Evelyn covered her mouth, clearly finding it hard to believe.
“I’ve heard werewolves usually don’t harm humans. Maybe he’s just… interested in me?”
God, I was starting to believe what Magnus had said. If even Evelyn, with her psychic sensitivity, couldn’t sense how my wound had healed, maybe I should attribute it all to the werewolf.
He didn’t hurt me, so when he saw I was injured, he healed me?
But no matter how I thought about it, it all felt too bizarre.
And tonight, the werewolf didn’t show up.
I took out the gun Magnus had given me. I didn’t know much about guns, but I instinctively feared it. It could take lives. I had never thought of killing anyone-or any creature.
Before sleeping, I placed the gun within reach. If that monster dared to come near me, I would shoot without hesitation!
With that thought, I quickly fell asleep.
When I woke up, I practically jumped out of bed.
Thank God, I was still alive. Last night had been peaceful, and the werewolf hadn’t appeared!
I rushed out and told Evelyn. She nodded. “Same here, Seraph. I didn’t sense any animal presence.”
The monster was gone. This was fantastic!
I almost wanted to pop open a bottle of champagne with Evelyn to celebrate.
Unfortunately, we had classes to attend.
Today’s schedule was packed, so I didn’t have to work my part-time job at the Eagle Club in the afternoon. But I had to go in the evening.
Last night, Rebecca had texted me, insisting I show up and even told me to dress up nicely.
I didn’t quite understand her instructions. How fancy could one dress for a part-time job? But Rebecca insisted I wear the best outfit from my wardrobe.
Preferably a dress.
And makeup.
This surprised me. Maybe it was because there was a public match on Friday night, with many participants. Perhaps the staff were required to dress formally?
After class, Evelyn and I returned to the apartment to get ready.
Most of my wardrobe consisted of casual clothes, but I did have a few nice dresses.
I had bought them for dates with Lucian.
Sadly, I would never wear them for that purpose again.
Several of them had never even been worn.
I slipped into a sapphire-blue strapless dress. It clung to my body like a second skin, perfectly accentuating my figure.
I had a fuller figure, which wasn’t obvious when I wore casual clothes.
But now, it was strikingly apparent.
Especially around the chest, where the curves were particularly pronounced. It was undeniably sexy.
Wearing this outfit required a lot of courage.
So, I borrowed a black leather jacket from Evelyn to wear over it.
That made it better. Finally, I paired it with black boots, completing the look.
I also applied a full face of makeup, though Evelyn helped with that part.
“When Lucian sees you later, he’ll regret everything!” Evelyn said as she applied my foundation, eyeshadow, and blush.
Finally, she pulled out a shiny lipstick and swiped it across my lips.
“You look stunning, Seraph! You’re like a goddess now!” Evelyn gazed at me with admiration.
“You look beautiful too,” I told her, and I meant it.
Evelyn had braided her hair into several strands that cascaded down her back. She wore a denim jacket and black shorts, looking like the epitome of cool and sexy.
We headed to the Eagle Club.
Evelyn went to the exhibition hall, while I went to find Rebecca.
I had never experienced this kind of exhibition match before, so I wasn’t sure what my duties were.
Just cleaning the hall?
I had to find Rebecca, hoping she’d give me clear instructions. I thought about how panicked I had been yesterday, and how Rebecca had probably thought I was crazy.
I hoped to redeem myself in her eyes.
I really needed this part-time job.
It was easier and paid better than my previous job at the bar.
As soon as I entered Rebecca’s office, she stood up and walked over to me.
She grabbed my arm and looked me up and down.
“Darling, you look absolutely stunning today! I had no idea you could look this good!”
Rebecca’s strong reaction confused me.
I studied her face and saw admiration and praise in her eyes, none of the suspicion from before.
I breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe I had been overthinking things.
“Thank you. What do I need to do today?”
“You don’t need to do much. Just enjoy the match and attend the after-party!”
“What?” I was shocked.
“I don’t have to work?” I didn’t understand!
“Oh, you do. You’ll observe the players’ needs from the sidelines. There’s always something for you to do. Go on, Seraphina. Cheer extra loud for Kael when he’s on.”
What? Why Kael?
“But he has so many friends. He doesn’t need me…”
So many girls adored him. They went crazy whenever he appeared.
“Aren’t you two friends?” Rebecca said. “Anyway, go on. The match is about to start.”
Rebecca pushed me out of her office. I found Evelyn in the hall and told her what had happened.
Evelyn was equally surprised. “Maybe there aren’t many people here today?”
The club’s viewing area wasn’t as large as a professional venue. Since these matches happened weekly and weren’t official, the audience mostly consisted of fans of the club members.
And most of them were girls who liked Kael. The crowd wasn’t as big as the last time we watched a match.
“Seraph, are you here for me?” A voice called out, and someone ran up to me.
It was Lucian!
Damn it. The last time I saw him, I knew I couldn’t avoid him. I turned to face him, and his eyes were filled with surprise and affection.
God, he was such a good actor. He deserved an Oscar!
The moment I saw him, I remembered him and Vivienne in bed.
Why did he keep showing up in front of me?
“You’re mistaken. I’m here to work,” I replied coldly.
“You’re definitely here for me. I’m up first,” Lucian said, ignoring my words. He was brimming with excitement.
I could see his eyebrows practically lifting with enthusiasm.
Just then, his teammates called for him.
“Seraph, I’ll prove to you how strong I am!” Lucian turned and left like a warrior.
I looked away. If it weren’t for work, I would have run off immediately.
