Kane gritted his teeth for the umpteenth time that night, as he tried for the hundredth time to break through the shield, but all to no avail. He thought of going through the window but he thought better of it. If the lady had locked up this part of the room, then the window would be under the same fate.
He sighed, thumping his hand on the door consistently, not knowing what tactic to employ again. His senses were rather clouded by his lifemate’s scent and heartbeat which were quite overwhelming. He knew for sure that she was the one, but how would he get to her? She was with a witch!
How had they gotten together? He thought, resting his back on the door. Then with a startling realization, he jerked away from the door.
Tsk! How had he forgotten? Freya was a high class mage too! She must be stronger than this witch, for the latter had been practicing and had been confirmed by many as a very powerful mage from a powerful lineage. Even though, her identity and lineage was being questioned and unknown for now, the powerfulness was not exaggerated.
He had yet to see a mage like her, except the old wicked mage who had died many years ago, or so they had been told. But he doubted that Freya would come with him to remove the shield tonight. It was already 11pm.
Even though their kind didn’t sleep till daytime, Freya and Yodah had been allowed to stay among humans for a very long time, and so, had developed their sleeping patterns to an extent. This means that he would have to wait till the next day. Could he? He queried himself, folding his lips in.
Well, he had waited centuries, he could wait for some hours. He thought. What matters is that he had seen her and he wasn’t letting her out of his sight.
With that point assimilated, he looked at the door one more time, before disappearing into mist once again, and flying through the hallways as air, down the stairs and to the lobby in a matter of seconds.

“Where have you been?” Dobah asked Kane immediately the latter stepped into the house. “I hoped you didn’t give the humans a scare of their lifetime. You remember this is a wolf territory. You should be more careful. We don’t want to alert them yet of our arrival, since we will be leaving soon to search for the girl.”
“I don’t think we will be leaving soon, Dobah.” Kane mentioned, taking a seat on one of the sofas in the living room. Yodah, Aiden, Julius and Freya entered the room, shocking the twins.
“I thought you all were asleep.” Dobah finally spoke, but Freya shrugged her shoulders.
“Personally, I couldn’t. I don’t know about the others. So, Kane, you mentioned that we won’t be leaving this crazy town for now. Why is that? Did you see something that interests your eye?” She teased, winking at Kane who scoffed before looking away, but he was unable to stop the smile that graced his lips, a smile which was seen by the other occupants of the room.
“Did you just smile?” Aiden asked, stepping closer to Kane, his voice coated with shock and disbelief, “Did you hear her voice in your head again?” He queried, referring to Emma, since Kane had first seen color when Emma had spoken to him telepathically, something they still couldn’t understand, since Emma hadn’t met the latter before.
Kane turned aside and looked uninterested at the pairs of eyes watching him with obvious amazement. Heard whose voice? The Emma? Of course not! The girl hadn’t let him see his lifemate. If he saw her again, he might just squeeze her cheeks so painfully that she wouldn’t talk back to him again.
“No, I didn’t hear her voice. I saw my lifemate today. She was with the Emma. They were in a hotel. They had seen me feeding on one of the humans, and Emma had created a shield of protection around their room so that I couldn’t get in. that Emma needs to be taught a lesson or…” Kane was saying, when Dobah interrupted him sharply.
“Wait, chill out brother. Can you tell us what really happened, the whole details?” He asked, taking a seat of his own, the others following suit, their attention piqued beyond comparison. Freya, most especially.
She remembered that they had sent Emma off personally to the airport, so how could Kane mention that he had seen Emma? Kane couldn’t possibly lie, unless… he had Emma confused with someone else! If there was someone that looked so much like Emma, it meant then that person could be their mother, or maybe another sibling?! She wasn’t sure, but she was so engrossed in making her own deductions, that she lost track of what Kane was saying. Quickly, not wanting to be left behind, she called him back.
“Please Kane, you lost me from the beginning. Could you backtrack a bit?” she asked, imploring the puppy eyes and a pout, withholding the laughter that was threatening to burst forth when she saw the look he gave her and the grunt that escaped his mouth afterward. But Yodah wasn’t completely successfully causing Kane to glare at him.
“Kane, just backtrack. Don’t mind the kids.” Dobah mentioned, in a hurry to get the full gist of what had happened to his twin just a few hours ago whilst he was busy rubbing his lifemate’s belly so that she could sleep more peacefully. He couldn’t wait for his daughter to be born. He already had a name for her.
Kane grunted again, before telling the story from the beginning again.
He told them of the first female who he believed to be his lifemafe, Lucille. He also told them of the other female with red hair and green eyes, a powerful witch who had cast the protective shield around the room and had prevented his entry into the room, whilst telling him to leave and not disturb them. They had known what he was. He cited.
But he didn’t mention what had happened in the lobby or the story he had contorted in order to stop the guards from attacking him.
