CHAPTER 449: A SPELL II

Kane gritted his teeth as he watched another bout of guards approach him. He had been holding back on his inner strength when fighting off the former set, but the hotel management seemed to have a lot of staff to spare for duels.
He had the capability to be done with them in a second, but that would be risking the job of Aiden and the identity of his kind. Not that they would even guess it correctly. They would just think that they were vampires. But even then, he didn’t want to risk an unbalance in the world system.
So, instead, he retreated, raising up his two hands in surrender, taking steps backward as the security man, both those whom he had earlier beaten which were on the floor, and the newly called.
“Don’t come any further.” he said in a faux tired voice. “I give up. I will be going now. I am sorry for causing any inconveniences. Please don’t call the police too. I was just drunk and frustrated that my wife had left me today, and had decided to stay in this hotel with her friend. I just miss her so much. I’m sorry for hurting her too.” he mentioned in a meek voice, surprising the occupants of the hotel lobby.
The fighting stance of the guards relaxed, and they stopped approaching him, probably touched by his story. They were not alone. The other occupants, including the receptionists and cleaners groaned and shook their heads, sympathizing with him.
Kane mused, wondering about the emotional weakness of humans. If he had been a terrorist, he would have easily bombed them, before they could even shake their heads twice. They were easy prey.
“No problem sir. Sometimes, life gets tough that way we understand. But you would have to go home now and rest, perhaps come back tomorrow. We will tell her of your appearance, and convey the message you had for her. Hopefully, she will reconsider her decision to leave you.” One of the guards said, and Kane nodded, before turning around and walking away toward the exit doors, aware that behind him people were still muttering sorrys and spinning gossip topics.
Humans! He thought, clucking his tongue.
When he got outside, he looked to his left and then to his right, and when he was sure that no one was looking at him, he transformed into mist, wondering why he hadn’t thought of it this way the first time.
Well, he had just been blinded by desires and eagerness to see his lifemate. He had the strong feeling that one of the redheads, especially the first female he had seen at the window, was his life mate. The second might be the lady who had spoken in his head. The lady had fit the description which Aiden and Freya had given. She had red full hair and green eyes, while the latter had grey eyes.
He had zoomed in on them, whilst they had been trying to recover from the shock of seeing someone feeding on a fellow human. Surely, the Emma must have not been surprised since she had stayed with his nephew, Yodah, and the rest, or hadn’t they told her what they were? Scallywags! The lot of them! He thought, walking inside the hotel lobby again, but this time, unseen by the people who were moving up and then.
He went to the receptionist’s desk first, and while she was scrolling through the pages, was able to still time for a second and take in the room numbers of people who had lodges in a few hours ago. Sheila L. Room 413. Matthew Fint, room 400. Kent, room 409. The list went on.
Most of the names were males. So, he picked the few registered under the females, and decided to check them out, starting with Sheila, room 413. For some reason, he felt that he had to start with that.
But Sheila? He thought, racking his head for the familiarity of the name, but he found no memory attached to her. Who was she? Aiden had said the other girl’s name was Emma, and the name of his lifemate was Lucille. Or was Sheila a fake name, so that people wouldn’t be able to find them.
Not wasting any further time at the desk, he flew through the air, going through the staircase like a soft wind until he got to the fourth floor of the hotel. He kept walking along the hallway, having taken his physical form, checking the numbers on the doors of the rooms. He stopped when he got to room 413.
This was it.
He knocked once, then again, when he got no response for the first time.
“Who is that?” a voice asked. He could tell that there was a presence of uncertainty and nervousness in the voice. It seemed he had hit the jackpot just on first trial. A smile cut across his lips before he could stop himself, whilst hoping that none of the guards would come to this particular floor. He didn’t want any commotion. He had to successfully compel the women to come with him.
“Room service.” he replied, toning down his voice.
“I’m sorry but we didn’t order for room service.” the same voice replied, but this time, the trace of nervousness was gone. Did they know he was the one? He thought, shrugging his shoulders as he decided to go all out then.
“Open the door still. I want to talk with you. It is very important.” he stated, tapping his foot on the floor impatiently, holding himself from blasting the door open, and taking the women forcefully if they managed to escape his compulsion.
“I don’t think that is a good idea. We already know who, or rather what you are. You should leave. We have no plans on speaking or communicating with you. So, leave.” the female’s voice echoed into his ears, grating on his nerves.
How dare she stop him from meeting his lifemate? She must be delusional. He thought, resting his hand on the door, preparing to blast it open, when suddenly he noticed the torrent of energy brimming on the door. A magic shield?! How?!
