Aiden looked at the finely sculptured ring on Kane’s finger and nodded.
“Yes, that mineral…” He replied slowly.
“Wow, that is good news. The few people of our kind who remain would at least have access to the beauty of the sunlight.” Kane cited, nodding his head, agreeing to something for the first time since he had joined the group. “So, have you found the cave?” He asked Aiden, scowling the next minute when Aiden remained mute and silent.
“I knew it. You sca…”
“Uncle Kane, stop it!” Freya shouted at Kane, putting to abrupt whatever Kane had wanted to say.
There was a minute silence after Freya’s shout. It was obvious that it had taken everyone at unawares. None of them had seen it coming. After all, this was her first time speaking in such a tone to either of the older men.
Kane opened his mouth to say something, but shut it the next moment. Freya was one of his favourite people, and he knew that she took him as the father she wasn’t sure she had. He also knew that at the moment that she was terribly angry with him. He had to apologise for being an asshole this time around. It was just that he was finding it difficult to wrap around his finger that his little girl was now with the mischievous twin.
“So, you aren’t mischievous?” A voice sounded thickly but softly at the same time in his head.
Startled, Kane jumped to his feet and looked around him, even to the chair.
“Kane, what is it?” Dobah asked, worry causing a crease of lines on his forehead. Even Freya, who had been fuming in anger, felt her raging emotion die down at the look of confusion and shock on her uncle’s face. She had never seen him this bothered by anything before. He was always calm, focused, stoic and aloof. But never startled.
“Did you hear that?” Kane asked back, staring at Dobah with wide eyes that put Blenda in a state of shock. Did she just see a flick of emotion in her brother-in-law’s eyes? What was happening?
“Hear what? I didn’t hear anything.” Dobah replied, utterly confused. He stepped toward Kane, wanting to hear if there was any, any voice at all.
Kane cocked his head, his mouth dropping open the next second, when he saw the painting of a large leopard on the wall. It was coloured blue!
“Dobah…” he stuttered, pointing at the wall, feeling foreign emotions assail him. He turned around, gaping as he saw the colour of Freya’s hair for the first time. Red, with strands of brown at some ends. How come? Was Lucille around here? But shouldn’t the transition happen when he sees her face to face and hears her voice then? How had she gotten into his head?
“Kane…what about the painting? What is happening to you?” Dobah queried, getting frantic by the passing moment. He had never seen his brother this way.
“The colour is blue.” Kane answered, causing shock to soak up the whole occupants of the room.
“How… how… did you know … that?” Dobah stuttered out, looking very bewildered.
“I don’t know. I just heard her voice in my head. And now, I am feeling… funny.” Kane replied, sinking his fingers into his long lush hair.
“Her? Who is she? Lucille? But she is not here.” Blenda pointed out, standing up from the sofa. She looked around the sitting room, but there was no sign of anybody.
“Aidem, do you have anybody else in your house, or do you know of anybody called Lucille?” She asked Aiden, but the latter shook his head in negatives.
“She is laughing at me now, calling me bone head, and that I shouldn’t talk to Aiden and Freya like that again…” Kane mentioned, glancing between Freya and Aiden. “If you don’t know who Lucille is, then why is she defending you both? He asked the duo, but Freya was in shock as he was, except for Aiden who was beginning to see a pattern in the whole event.
“Emma…” He muttered to himself whilst deep in thought, but the others heard him.
“Emma? Who is Emma?” Kane asked him, stepping closer to him.
“A girl who looks so much like Freya, that they could pass out as twins, only that she has green eyes and deeper red hair.” Yodah answered with a shrug, still not seeing the reason why Aiden had mentioned Emma’s name. Only Julius did.
“What do you mean?” Blenda asked, feeling like she would pass out any second from the load of information she was getting, just barely twenty minutes since they stepped into this county.
“Well, before Aiden met Freya, he had thought that Emma was his mate. He had been to see colour around her, just like you are. Though, I don’t understand how she could still get to your mind when she is not around here. Perhaps, because she is the prophecy.”
“Prophecy?” Blenda queried, falling on the sofa tiredly. Dobah leaned on the wall, still watching Kane who was groping at the thought of seeing colours suddenly.
“Where is she now?” He asked, knowing that if the lady was the prophecy, then they should be with her now.
“She is on the plane to Florida. She had been the reason why we had been at the airport. We had gone to see her off.” Freya replied, suddenly withdrawing deeper into the sofa when she saw the look of unbelief and annoyance that etched on Dobah’s face at her reply.
“Sent her off? After knowing what she is? Oh God! What have we stepped into? Kane, try reaching her.” Dobah cited, looking at his brother hopefully.
“She is gone. I can’t feel her presence again.” Kane said, after attempting to reach the owner of the voice again.
Dobah opened his mouth, then shut it. He stared at his son, Freya, whom he had taken as a daughter, and sighed deeply.
“Out with it, all of you. Tell us the whole story in detail. Don’t miss any point or fact.” He said, retaking his seat next to his lifemate, his eyes fixed on the four offenders.
