CHAPTER 442: SCALLYWAGS II

Book:The Alpha's Addiction Published:2025-2-23

A glare from Kane had Freya and Yodah shutting up their mouths.
“What are you two laughing about? Don’t you ever think that I am letting you off the hook like Blenda had! You both had lied to me, and then sneaked down here to do whatever it is you people were down here for…” Kane started, still glaring at the two who bowed their heads in shame at being shouted at.
“Kane, take it easy on them. Remember, they are still fledglings.” Dobah intercepted, wanting to cover the offending duo from the anger of his twin brother.
“My taking it easy on them had been the reason why they had thought that they could fool me easily.” Kane pointed out, seething in anger, especially as he took note of Aiden’s now protective stance behind Freya. What the hell was the scallywag doing?
“Hey…scallywag…” He called to Aiden who quickly rebuffed him, getting rid of the fear that assuaged him at the thought of standing trial in front of the infamous twins he had always dreamed to become like.
“I am no scallywag. My name is Aiden.” Aiden stated, ignoring the shouts of pleas in his head from Freya. “And this is my twin brother, Julius.” He introduced Juilius in the same breath, not trusting the other to say a word till they were alone again. He was aware that his twin was not in the bit deterred or concerned about Kane’s insult. If anything, he was still gazing in admiration at the older twins.
“I think I remember you two.” Dobah cited, drawing closer to the group. He stretched out his hand for a handshake, to the amazement of the group, But Kane scoffed.
“Who wouldn’t remember them? They are propagators of mischief and trouble. They had been the duo that had been eavesdropping on our conversation with the former Prince of our people without fear. No wonder I had seen them in my dreams. Yodah had been with them all along.” Kane mentioned, folding his arms across his chest.
Dobah sighed tiredly, shaking his head. His twin could sometimes be a thorn in the flesh. How was he going to extract information from the group about their whereabouts and reasons for being together if the latter kept being hostile. Couldn’t his twin read between the lines?
Blenda, having been and seen what was in her lifemate’s mind, stepped at the centre, parting the groups into two.
“I know we all have questions, and some are not the favourite of some others, but we have to remember that we are still of the same kind. As a matter of fact, we should be happy seeing each other, since our race is suffering near extinction because of the turnover of most of our remaining kind to vampires as a result of impatience to wait for their mates. We, that remain, should we fight among ourselves then?” She asked, her eyes touching each and everyone of the two groups.
When she received no response in return except silence from both ends, she turned to Aiden and spoke softly to him;
“Do you have a place in this town where we can stay for a while, and perhaps talk?”
“Yes, of course. If you will follow me…” Aiden replied, already stepping toward the taxi, his left hand clasped with Freya’s who was blushing terribly, especially as she noticed that she was now the center of attention of her uncles and aunt Blenda.
“Please, don’t tell me that scallywag is your lifemate…” Kane started, causing Aiden to stop on his tracks. It was then it dawned on him that he was holding Freya’s hand.
But he didn’t want to let it go.
“Kane, his name is Aiden. And Freya, is this true? Is Aiden your lifemate?” Dobah asked Freya, his eyes already twinkling with happiness.
Freya, noticing this, nodded immediately, blushing profusely as Blenda whistled.
“That’s great. Is that why you came here? Had you sensed that your lifemate was here?” Dobah asked another question, but before Freya could give a half-true reply, Blenda interrupted with her next words.
“Dobah, stop with the questions. When we get to a house, we can talk more properly. In case you haven’t noticed, we are crowded by humans. We need to go. Are we taking taxis or other means?” She queried, staring at Dobah and Kane intermittently.
“I think taxis would be more preferable.” Julius said for the first time since the sudden meet up. “We don’t want to create suspicions among the humans around this area. They can be quite inquisitive.” He pointed out.

“Nice place you got here, Aiden. How long has this been your abode?” Dobah asked, immediately he settled down next to his lifemate on one of the sofas in Aiden’s sitting room. They had just arrived at the place a couple of minutes ago without any hitch in movement.
“A couple of months.” Aiden replied, settling down on the next sofa, Freya by his side. Yodaha and Julius took up the next sofa, while Kane sat alone in the large living room.
“Are you here permanently or here for business?” Kane asked next, causing Blenda to sigh and Yodah to chuckle.
“What?” He asked, staring at each of them. “We are under a roof now, so we should start talking. There is no time to play around the main point.”
“I am here for business.” Aiden replied, understanding Kane to an extent. Kent’s attitude was exactly the way he was before he had found his lifemate. Emotionlessness and stoic facials. He had been there before, before his own light had come.
“And what business would that be?” Dobah asked, obviously interested in this new piece of information.
“At first, an Alpha of a pack, White Sted Pack to be exact, had visited our Prince a couple of months, bringing news of a certain cave of Baresis in which large amounts of Absterum had been found in…” Aiden replied, though Kane cut him short at this point.
“You mean the mineral that can help us work under the sunlight without being burnt to ashes? This mineral…???” Kane asked, pointing at the small glowing red orb right in the middle of the ring he was wearing on the smallest finger of his left hand.
