The leader was taken aback. Indeed, Anbusea had developed well, and no one expected Jamir to come to Ylosea.
“No matter what, we must serve this important guest well today. The mayor has given strict orders; we can’t afford any mistakes.”
Callie glanced at the people present, including the district chief, the secretary, and even the police chief.
“Such a big show?” How much money did he invest?
Seeing Callie’s surprised look at the police chief, the district chief quickly explained, “This gentleman’s primary condition is good public security. That’s why the chief is here to support us.”
Callie twitched her mouth. Could Ylosea’s security be worse than Anbusea’s?
Reluctantly, she walked back to Jamir and whispered mockingly, “Were you scared by those people in Anbusea? You check the security conditions everywhere you go.”
She was sharp. Jamir smiled, “I value my life.”
Callie forced a smile, “Leader, would you like to experience other projects? I’ll accompany you.”
With such a grand setup, she couldn’t show her personal likes and dislikes and could only smile.
Jamir was satisfied with her attitude and even patted her head. “Just arrived in Ylosea, after a long journey, let’s eat.”
“Ah, it’s already prepared,” said the leader.
They entered a private room that had been prepared in advance. During the meal, Jamir changed his clothes and discussed cooperation with them. It was all formal talk.
Callie couldn’t listen, focusing on eating while wondering how long Jamir would stay in Ylosea. Would he stay until the project was completed?
“Ylosea is already a famous tourist city. With the development of this project and the support of Oconnor Group and the Quinn Group, tourism will surely reach new heights.”
Mentioning Oconnor Group made Callie choke slightly. She coughed lightly and discreetly, but when she looked up, a glass of warm water was suddenly placed beside her.
The owner’s hand was distinct.
Jamir sat next to her, calmly responding, “I haven’t met Mr. Oconnor yet, but I suppose it will be soon.” He pushed the glass of water closer.
Callie frowned.
After a few rounds of drinks, Callie had almost finished eating when a secretary entered and whispered something to the police chief. His face changed as he whispered back, “How did they know?”
“Someone must have leaked the whereabouts.”
The chief didn’t respond immediately. After a moment of contemplation, the secretary continued, “After all, they are from that infuential family; it’s not good to ignore them.”
He was still hesitant. Jamir noticed and asked proactively, “Chief, is there something troubling you?”
The chief clicked his tongue in frustration. “In this position, there are always some obligations you can’t avoid.”
Callie hadn’t paid attention until her phone lit up with a message from Regan: “Are you at the archery range today?”
She frowned and replied: How do you know?
“I saw you sitting near the entrance as I passed by.”
“I’m here with Marilyn.”
Understanding dawned on Callie just as the chief stood up to handle something.
She clenched her fist and then relaxed it, saying to Jamir, “I’ve eaten too much; I’m going for a walk.”
Without waiting for his response, she pushed the door open and left.
Downstairs from the private room was the archery area. Callie walked out into the corridor and leaned on the railing to observe below.
Marilyn and Regan were dressed sharply, playing with bows and arrows. Seeing the chief stride over, Marilyn stepped forward to shake hands. “What a coincidence. We didn’t mean to disturb you, but since we’re here, it’s only polite to say hello.”
The chief pointed at her with a smile. “Marilyn, you’ve been clever since you were little!”
