After breakfast, Anthony and I made our way to see Dr. Adams. I already told him, through the pack link, why I needed to come see him. He was waiting for us when we arrived.
“Delta Heir Melanie, Anthony. It’s good to see you again. I’m sorry you’re not feeling well today. Come, let’s see what’s going on, hmm?” stated Dr. Adams in his fatherly voice.
“Good morning, Dr. Adams. Yes, let’s find out why all of a sudden I’ve got a migraine once again,” I contended as we walked into the pack hospital even though I had a pretty good idea why I had a migraine once again.
Once we reached a room, Dr. Adams had me sit on the exam table. “Now then, tell me what’s been going on that might have brought on the migraine. Anything like changes in diet, work, stress,” explained Dr. Adams.
“Well, you know that I have a stressful job. Also, we are preparing to take the Oath of Delta this Wednesday. Also, I think I’m pregnant,” I added the last one hastily.
“Okay, the last one might be the reason for the migraine, but so could your job as well as the preparations for the Ceremony this Wednesday. You are a very busy young lady. Not to mention that you are newly mated. By the way, Congratulations on finding your mate, Delta Heir Melanie,” exclaimed Dr. Adams.
“Thank you, Dr. Adams. So, tell me, what do you want me to do? This headache is excruciating. I had it all day yesterday. It got worse as the day went by. It has eased up a little bit, but not much. I need some relief, please,” I begged Dr. Adams.
“Okay, let me take a blood draw from you so I can see where your numbers are first. This will tell me several things. Then, I can prescribe some prescription migraine medication via IV solution for you to help ease your migraine just like we did before you got your wolf. Let me do a cursory check of you first, okay?” Dr. Adams explained before he drew my blood.
Dr. Adams worked efficiently to check my heart, my blood pressure, my hand-eye coordination, my reflexes, and all the necessary minor details before leaving to check my blood work. Anthony chuckled at me because I didn’t want to sit back up on the table. I was comfortable lying down. What? My head hurt and I was comfortable-don’t laugh at me.
We waited for about forty minutes when Dr. Adams came back in with an IV bag and an Ultrasound machine. Yep, I was definitely pregnant.
“I’ve got some good news and some bad news. Which do you want first?” inquired Dr. Adams to no one in particular.
“Give me the bad news first,” I declared. “Then, give me the good news.”
“The bad news is, You are going to be admitted to the hospital while we treat your migraine. You will stay at least through tomorrow. The good news is You are definitely pregnant. Let’s find out how many babies you have. Since your family has a history of twins, we cannot rule out that possibility,” Dr. Adams exclaimed with a huge grin on his face.
“Okay, thank you, Dr. Adams. Have you told anyone about this yet?” I asked him point blank.
“No, I have not. But I cannot keep this a secret. The reason why you are being admitted is because of the pregnancy. We have to watch you very carefully today and tonight while we treat your migraine. We have to make sure nothing happens to your pup,” Dr. Adams explained.
“Okay. Thank you for taking good care of us,” I praised Dr. Adams.
‘Dad, I need you at the pack hospital. If possible I also need Alpha Richard as well. It’s very important. I’m being admitted. Please come quick,’ I reached out to him.
‘We’re on our way. Be there shortly,’ replied my dad.
While I was reaching out to my Dad, Dr. Adams was setting up the Ultrasound machine. He applied the gel to my stomach and had just moved the wand over my stomach when I saw the picture on the screen. I saw two lima bean/peanuts. I was having twins.
“Congratulations Delta Heir Melanie and Anthony, you are having Twins!” announced Dr. Adams.
“Twins!,” we both said in unison as we gazed at the monitor. I was happy but my head was throbbing. Anthony kissed my forehead deeply. He knew that I didn’t feel well and it took a lot for me just to keep my head up today.
Dr. Adams had just cleaned up the gel and put the Ultrasound machine in the corner when my Dad, Alpha Richard, Beta Micah, and Gamma Jacob came racing through the door.
“Melanie, what’s going on? Why are you being admitted to the hospital? How’s your headache?” Dad questioned me in rapid fire.
“Delta Troy, please not so loud or so fast. She is suffering from an extreme migraine with complications. I was just about to start her IV and get her ready to be admitted. We have to watch her very carefully today and tonight. …” was all Dr. Adams could say before he was interrupted yet again.
“Why does she have to be carefully watched Dr. Adams?” questioned Alpha Richard.
“Alpha Richard, Dad, well everyone, Anthony and I are having Twin pups,” I announced.
“Congratulations Melanie and Anthony. You know what this means right Melanie?” announced Alpha Richard.
“Yes, Alpha I do. I cannot train or shift. When an alert goes out, I must go into a safe room, no excuses,” I noted for the record.
“Exactly. From now on, you will have your guards with you wherever you go. Even on pack grounds. We cannot risk your heir’s safety,” declared Alpha Richard.
“Yes, Alpha Richard,” I replied.
“Dr. Adams, why did she get the migraine? Will she get more migraines with her pregnancy?” inquired Alpha Richard.
“Well, her hormonal change caused her to get the migraine. She may get more as her pregnancy goes along. We will have to watch her closely. Anthony will just have to watch her for signs that she is getting a headache and let us know. If not, Delta Troy, as her father, you can still see the signs can’t you?” inquired Dr. Adams.
“I noticed she was a little off yesterday. Also, she didn’t eat a lot of her dinner last night. I was going to ask her about it when she excused herself to go to the bathroom. Before I could ask her, the alert went out and we had to go to the safe room. Then, when she came into the safe room, she had an ice pack and towel to put on her head. That’s when she told us about her headache,” explained Dad to everyone in the room.
“Melanie, you are going to have to do a better job of telling us when you have a headache. We have to be proactive in order to help protect you and your pups. Understand?” commanded Alpha Richard.
“Understood, Alpha Richard. I wasn’t trying to … yes I was. We had a lot to do and I didn’t want to be a burden to anyone. I’m sorry. I should have told you Anthony, and Dad. Next time, I will. I promise. Do you forgive me?” I softly sighed as I looked at both of them.
“I forgive you. Just let me in. I didn’t have a clue what you were feeling yesterday. I’m your mate. I’m supposed to take care of you. Don’t keep that from me again. Do you hear me?” admonished Anthony even though he caressed my cheek with his hand.
“I promise not to keep it from you ever again,” I assured him as I looked into his gorgeous blue eyes.
“I’m sorry I didn’t call you on it sooner yesterday. Maybe we could have caught the headache before it became a migraine,” lamented Dad.
“Okay, going forward. Because she is being admitted due to her pregnancy and migraine. We will announce the pregnancy to the pack, but not Twins. You will have that privilege at your ceremony. Melanie, you need to get better. Your guards are on their way here to protect you,” declared Alpha Richard.
“Thank you, Alpha Richard,” Anthony replied as Daniel, Rebecca, Mom, and Anthony’s Grandparents entered our room.
“Now, I think we all need to leave so they can have a family chat. Let us know if you need anything,” commanded Alpha Richard.
“Yes, Alpha,” we replied in unison.
After they left Dr. Adams told me they were preparing a room for me upstairs and they would come get me in a few minutes. We quickly informed everyone present of my ‘condition.’ To say everyone was surprised was an understatement. Mom is thrilled that her pups are having pups together. She just knew I would be the one to have twins. We had to remind everyone that we could not announce to anyone that I was having twins-it was to remain a secret until the ceremony on Wednesday.
Dad and Daniel said that they would take care of the Command Center equipment re-install for me since I was going to be in the hospital. I was told not to worry about a thing. All I had to do was feel better.
Thus, I was put in a wheelchair and taken to a new room with an IV solution for my migraine. A pack meeting was called for later that night for general information like the extra people around the perimeter (the Elite Force and why they were there), how the Oath of Delta Ceremony was going to be conducted, and of course, my pregnancy announcement.
Anthony being the doting mate, made sure I had anything and everything I could possibly need. He even went out and got me some chocolate ice cream because everything was beginning to become just a little too much for me. I dared anyone to say anything to me about my ice cream.
After several different treatments, my migraine finally started to ease up and go away. I was finally able to get some real sleep in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. When I awoke around 7 AM, I was finally feeling much better. My head no longer felt like it was locked in a vise.
Dr. Adams came in to check on my progress. He noticed that I was feeling much better. He was pleased with my progress but he still didn’t want to release me just yet. He wanted to keep me a little while longer to see if the headache returns or continues to get better.
Again, Dad told me not to worry about anything. He and Daniel had everything taken care of while Mom took care of Anthony’s Grandparents. What would I do without my family?
Dr. Adams kept me in the hospital as a precaution all day Tuesday. He did not release me until Wednesday morning. He just wanted to make sure I did not have a rebound headache. Thanks a lot, Doc.
