Suddenly, a figure blocked Callie’s prying eyes. It was Isaac.
“Miss Marsh, you’re not needed here. You can leave now,” he sneered, full of disdain for her.
Callie didn’t move. “Regan hasn’t kicked me out yet. Why are you so eager?”
Her words were full of sarcasm. Regan held most of the power, and Isaac no longer dared to abuse her as he did before. He even seemed fearful.
“You!”
“Isaac.” It was Nelson’s voice. He gestured towards Charlotte. “You siblings should have a good talk.”
After speaking, he stepped forward, making his intentions clear.
Isaac, already wary of him, hesitated for a moment before stepping back with a look of disgust.
Charlotte frowned with concern. “Nelson…”
He remained calm and composed, signaling her to be quiet. Then he closed the door, shutting out all eyes. In the hallway, only the two of them remained.
Nelson’s calm eyes were now intense.
Callie looked up at him directly. “It was you.”
Nelson didn’t speak. He just grabbed her wrist and led her upstairs to the rooftop, a secluded place. Only then did he let go. “Marilyn committed suicide. I couldn’t control that.”
Callie had figured it out in the past few minutes. She rubbed her bruised wrist. “You already knew that Marilyn was involved in the photo incident. After returning to Ylosea, she was hit with scandal after scandal, which angered Ahmad and led to this. How is that not revenge?”
She spoke earnestly, sunlight reflecting in her amber eyes.
Nelson listened seriously, then laughed. “What would be my motive? We’re already divorced.”
The word “divorce” made Callie stiffen. Yes, they were already divorced.
She turned slightly. “Who said it had to be for me? Marilyn caused significant losses for Oconnor Group, and your reputation suffered too. It’s normal for you to seek revenge for yourself.”
Nelson lifted her chin, his other hand resting lightly on her shoulder as he leaned in. “Even if what you say is true, I couldn’t have predicted Marilyn would commit suicide.”
That point indeed didn’t make sense. But suddenly, Callie remembered the doctor mentioning claustrophobia earlier. She frowned. “Did you do something to Marilyn?”
The man in front of her slowly curved his lips into a smile that was almost terrifying.
“Callie, you’ve become smarter.”
“You…” Callie was incredulous, her pupils dilating slightly.
That was Marilyn. The means to induce claustrophobia in her were beyond imagination. And the man in front of her always had countless ways to torment people.
“I didn’t release those photos of hers, merciful of me.” Nelson’s expression gradually turned cold, like a venomous snake in summer.
The sun was blazing now, but Callie felt a chill down her spine. “Is this what you call a gift?”
“Not satisfied?” Nelson seemed puzzled. “Oh, there’s another gift. He’s currently being investigated by the Securities Commission, but it looks like he’ll be back soon.”
Callie’s brow furrowed tightly. She also wanted to take revenge on Marilyn for damaging her reputation so badly, but she hadn’t expected Nelson’s methods to be so ruthless.
The phrase “an eye for an eye” fit Nelson perfectly.
He sighed softly and made her look up at him. “But after all the effort I put into preparing these gifts for you, you still behave badly.”
