Kamara’s POV.
“Oh, my goodness. You look stunning in that dress. It’s like Diego knows you more than anyone.” Nana complimented me as I checked myself in the mirror. The red dress really did look pretty on me. The red was a deep red fitted long gown adorned with thousands of rhinestones. It looked so fancy and it made me wonder if we really were going for something more than a dinner.
Despite its look, I wish I had made my own dress. I can’t exactly fit in my own clothes anymore with the growing bump.
“Are we going to an event?” I asked Fernando who was seated on one of the sofas in the lounge. “The dress is too fancy and probably expensive also.”
“It was handmade for you requested by Don Diego. And no, it’s just for dinner. You might come across those he works with so the looks also count.” Fernando replied calmly and I got why. It’s probably because we might come across someone he knows and wants me presentable. Of course, it was nothing more.
“I’ll be back soon, Nana,” I said, giving her a side hug with a forced smile. I’ve been feeling sick all day but I am going to tell them I was feeling all nauseous and dizzy. It is my attempt to avoid being fussed over. “I hope you won’t be too lonely. Chantelle has some things to do tonight, she would have been here.”
“You go. No need to worry about this old woman.” She chuckled lovingly and I just nodded before turning to Fernando who led me towards the elevator.
We drove towards the restaurant where we would be meeting up with Diego. I didn’t know the exact location we were headed but it was going to be somewhere fancy for mafia Dons to head to obviously.
A ding on my phone made me look down to see Chantelle’s message.
You look beautiful in that dress.
Be sure to seduce him. I mean…
I rolled my eyes, tossing the phone in my bag. I’d rather jump off a bridge than seduce him. Chantelle seems to have bipolar disorder when it comes to Diego. One minute she hates him, the next, she wants me to please him. Whatever his intentions were, I don’t even want to know. I just wanted this to be over and done with. Once I have his baby, my life will be free and I can finally follow my dreams which I had abandoned to be here.
“We’re here,” Fernando announced and I finally realized the car had come to a halt. The door was pulled open by a guard and I stepped out of the car. I was taken aback by the highrise building. There was a huge sign “Cloud Ten” running down the side of the building.
I’ve heard of the business chain. It was one of the most popular in the whole of Atlanta and it took months before one could get into the reservation list. I didn’t know why I was so shocked considering Diego’s position but I was still so shocked I’ll be having dinner here.
“You’re here.” Diego’s voice made me look down at him. He was standing before me, dressed in a black shirt and black pants. His shirt’s sleeves were rolled up, showing his sculpted arm. A silver wristwatch around his wrist. I didn’t know why I was paying more attention to him but he seemed hot.
“T-thanks for inviting me to dinner.” I stuttered, trying to gain my composure. He had his usual busy look on his face and I could either guess he left whatever he was doing to come here.
“Let’s go in.” He said, taking my hand as he led me into the building. As we walked by, the attendants walking around the reception area bowed to greet us. It really seemed like he was in a very high position here.
We stepped into the elevator and it was awkwardly quiet. I looked out at the city through the glass wall of the elevator and it looked magical at night. “I thought you had your own restaurants. Why are we eating out?” I didn’t know when I blurted out the question in my mind. I immediately turned to him to see his reaction but it didn’t change.
He still had his casual and calm demeanor except for the angry look he always had. “I am one of the investors here. They have a new dish we’ve been invited to try out so I decided to bring you to try it.” He explained which was surprising. I thought he was just going to ignore me and ask me to mind my business or something like that.
“I see,” I replied calmly.
So it really was an event but not exactly an event. I was excited about being part of the first to try out a new dish from a top-tier restaurant like Cloud Ten so I’ll just ignore whatever reason he has aside from that.
After what felt like hours, we finally reached the floor we were heading to. Stepping out of the elevator, the chill air made me shiver slightly as I looked around. We were on a huge terrace with tables set all around.
There was a huge display screen on the other end of the terrace and a stage. It really looked like an event, I thought it was a date. But then, this isn’t bad. We would be alone together because it would be awkward so I wasn’t complaining.
The place was decorated in gold and white, the perfect place for high-ranked people like Diego. And I couldn’t believe I was having access to an exclusive gathering like this. Never in my wildest dreams have I dreamt I would step here after I decided to let go of my main dream.
“Here.” I heard Diego’s voice as something warm covered my shoulders. I saw he had placed a fluffy jacket on my shoulder. “I thought it might be cold so wear this.”
“Thanks.” I nodded, putting on the jacket and it felt much better. When exactly did he become so caring? I wondered but before I could ponder more on anything else, a hoarse voice spoke from behind.
“Oh if it isn’t Diego. And look darling, he brought a date.”
Turning, a middle-aged man was standing there with a young woman in his arms. But that wasn’t what troubled me, it was the fact that I recognized her.
“Kamara?!”
