Agnes took only three seconds to regain her composure. She was mostly happy, but there was a hint of fear since it was her first pregnancy. The idea of a new life growing inside her was truly magical.
Tom’s lips curved into a relaxed and handsome smile. He cupped her face gently, his actions filled with comfort. “I will always be by your side,” he said, hoping to ease her nervousness.
In the bathroom, Tom held her softly in his arms and spoke tenderly, “Let’s go get something to eat first. We’ll remove anything you don’t like. After that, I’ll take you to the hospital. Is there any smell you can’t stand?”
“Cream cake.”
“Alright, I’ll have it taken away,” he said lovingly, stroking her smooth hair.
The girl leaned against the man’s solid, warm chest, nodded, and then looked up at him. “Shall we go out now? Let’s not worry Grandma and Mom and Dad.”
Tom released her, held her shoulders, kissed her pink lips gently, and then wrapped his arm around her shoulders as they walked out.
When the bathroom door opened, the young couple saw their elders standing outside. They paused for a moment as everyone’s eyes met, and time seemed to stand still for a few seconds.
“Is Agnes pregnant?” Grandma asked nervously but happily. “Does she have any other symptoms? Has her menstrual cycle been regular lately?”
In front of the Fritz family father and son, Grandma’s question made Agnes feel slightly embarrassed.
Tom held her shoulders and answered warmly for her, “Grandma, Dad, Mom, I’ll take Bubu to the hospital for a check-up in a bit.”
“That’s good,” Jane said with relief. “Whether she’s pregnant or not, it’s necessary to get checked if she’s feeling unwell.”
They truly treated Agnes like their own daughter.
“Grandma, please have the cake taken away,” Tom said. “She can’t stand the smell.”
“Alright, alright.” The old lady’s kind eyes fell on the girl again as she asked with concern, “Child, is there any other smell you can’t stand? I’ll have everything removed. What would you like to eat? Tell Grandma, and I’ll have the kitchen prepare it for you.”
“No need, Grandma. Just some porridge is fine; there’s no need to make anything special,” Agnes felt embarrassed, suddenly treated like a national treasure.
“Alright,” Grandma said patiently as everyone turned towards the dining room.
Jane walked ahead and immediately took away the cake that made her daughter-in-law nauseous. When Agnes sat down again, she felt much better.
She had some light porridge.
“Agnes, if there’s anything you’d like to eat or anything you don’t like, just let the kitchen know,” Williams said democratically.
“Thank you, Dad. I will.”
After breakfast, Tom drove Agnes to the hospital. Jane initially wanted to accompany them, but Agnes declined since it wasn’t a big issue.
Tom was extremely careful and attentive throughout the journey until they registered at the gynecology department where the doctor examined Agnes.
“Young lady, you’re pregnant! And with twins! Congratulations!” The gynecologist smiled at her. Seeing that she was accompanied by a man who was clearly very caring suggested they were legally married and had a good relationship; these children would definitely be born.
Tom and Agnes were overjoyed!
