Chapter 819: Ordinary Friends Who Kissed

Book:Married The Day We Met Published:2025-2-13

Such deliberate avoidance was definitely because they knew her identity. That meant the mastermind behind this was afraid of exposing her identity and was deliberately covering it up.
From Nelson and Anthony’s conversation earlier, the film was given by Marilyn.
Did she also know that Charlotte was an impostor?
One by one, what exactly were they planning?
Callie sat in front of her computer, lost in thought, unable to figure it out.
If it was related to the Ellison family, could the clue to Reuben’s disappearance be found with them?
Thinking of this, Callie suddenly felt the fog in front of her clear a bit.
“Callie.” Eliza suddenly pushed the door open and entered. “When did you come back?”
Callie immediately closed her computer and turned around. “Where did you go?”
“Jamir’s secretary invited me to a meal. When I came back, you were gone.” Eliza curiously leaned closer. “I heard you have a close relationship with Jamir, is it true?”
Callie replied nonchalantly, “Did his secretary say that?”
Eliza nodded.
“Just ordinary friends who once kissed.”
Callie’s words were shocking. Even though Eliza was mentally prepared, she was still taken aback. “So… does Jamir want to rekindle the old flame?”
“He wishes,” Callie answered quickly, then her gaze fell on Eliza’s face. “Is it hot outside? Why is your face red?”
Eliza seemed nervous and covered her face. “Is it? I don’t think so.” Then she hurried into the bathroom to check the mirror.
Watching her figure, Callie guessed something and her thoughts drifted away.
There was a celebration banquet after the summit. Callie didn’t want to go initially, but the waiter who came to notify her specifically mentioned that Nelson would attend with a female companion tonight.
It was obvious who that companion was.
Callie changed her mind.
Eliza guessed wrongly, “Callie, let’s pick a beautiful dress and outshine everyone, shall we?”
Callie chuckled. “The people present are all business elites. No one cares about beauty contests; it’s not a socialite gathering.”
Eliza exclaimed in surprise as Callie picked a black women’s jumpsuit, slightly revealing at the chest, sexy yet sharp, very much a business attire.
Eliza was surprised. Looking at herself in the mirror, Callie couldn’t remember her naive appearance when she first stepped into the workplace.
Upon arriving at the venue, most of the women were indeed dressed similarly. Jamir was on stage giving a speech on finance. Callie picked up a glass of wine and socialized with everyone.
Everyone smiled and more or less admired Callie. In recent days, she had neither shown any signs of depression nor had any scandals with her ex-husband Nelson.
She seemed like a carefree woman.
Jamir’s gaze fell on her from the stage and didn’t move away for a long time. Callie felt it but didn’t meet his eyes.
Halfway through the celebration banquet, Nelson arrived fashionably late. He mingled effortlessly with everyone, his behavior impeccable.
Charlotte indeed followed by his side.
When they stood together, Charlotte had quite the demeanor of a future Mrs. Oconnor.
As everyone speculated, Jamir finished his speech and came down from the stage. Under everyone’s gaze, he walked straight towards Callie.
She watched him approach with a sense of foreboding.
Jamir stood in front of her and asked in front of everyone, “Are you satisfied with this place?”
Callie raised an eyebrow and looked around but saw nothing special.
“That piano,” Jamir smiled lightly, looking at the piano on stage shining under the lights. “We once played it together.”
