Callie wanted to ask but couldn’t find the words, “… Thank you.”
Realizing that the man in front of her had once weathered storms with her during their youth, Callie felt a strange sensation. Unfortunately, he didn’t know that she was Maevelyn.
She had been upset several times because of Maevelyn, and now thinking back, she realized she was jealous of herself.
She turned around, and Nelson suddenly spoke, “After Jamir went abroad, he had several women around him.”
Hearing this, Callie frowned and looked back, “What are you trying to say?”
Nelson reached into his pocket, wanting to light another cigarette but decided against it.
“Your puppy-love first crush was never truly devoted to you.”
Callie walked forward.
“He prioritizes benefits over feelings for you.”
Callie stopped again, feeling somewhat amused, “Mr. Oconnor, you seem very concerned about me.”
Nelson remained silent and didn’t answer.
She looked at the man standing one step below her and suddenly had a cunning idea, “For adults, it’s normal to have women around. What’s important is whose heart he belongs to and for whom he’s willing to make sacrifices, right, Mr. Oconnor?”
Nelson squinted slightly.
“After marrying me, you can’t say you didn’t have a few women for casual flings.”
She became increasingly sarcastic. Nelson got straight to the point, “Can you accept him?”
Callie pretended to be serious, “I’m still considering.”
This time Nelson didn’t hold back. He took out a cigarette and lit it, saying, “We were once a couple. Jamir being with you is just to use you to control me and even Ylosea’s economy.”
“Men can act just as well as women.”
Callie seemed to understand partially, “Using me? Isn’t that how you started? I’m used to it.”
The cigarette ash fell, and Nelson’s expression turned indifferent, “First love is different. You can’t accept my casual flings but can accept his.”
Callie chuckled softly as if she smelled a hint of jealousy.
“The Quinn family won’t accept a woman without background or status as Mrs. Quinn. You just got rid of a trap. Can’t wait to fall for another one?” Nelson looked at her word by word.
It seemed he already knew most of her conversation with Jamir.
Callie looked at the ceiling, pretending to be relaxed, “What if he loves me deeply, and I can navigate smoothly in the Quinn family?”
Nelson chuckled deeply, stepped up one step, towering over her. He leaned down and whispered in her ear, “Absolutely impossible.”
His breath was close, making Callie shiver instinctively, her ear tingling with heat.
“One is a major taxpayer in Anbusea on the surface; the other is the underground emperor of Anbusea. Do you think they could coexist peacefully without collusion?” Nelson moved closer, speaking softly, his thin lips almost brushing her earlobe.
Such contact felt like torture.
“Jamir is not just an investor in Dragon City; he’s one of the partners. Did Jamir mention this to you?” Nelson saw her frown tighten. “It seems he didn’t.”
“You and Jaquan are involved in this. How much do you think he knows?”
“Such a secretive person, you only see his surface. It’s truly foolish.”
Nelson finished his cigarette, burning his fingertips. He threw it on the ground, extinguished it with his foot, and left.
Callie stood there, watching his figure disappear into the light, feeling almost exhausted.
This situation was far more complicated than she had imagined. Breaking free from it wouldn’t be easy.
Callie returned to her room and immediately inserted the USB drive into her computer. The negatives appeared one by one. The man’s face was indeed the unconscious Jaquan. After looking through them, she noticed something.
Every photo deliberately avoided showing her back; none captured that birthmark.
