After chatting with Ayan for a while, Camille finally felt relaxed.
Ayan was hiding something from her, and given his current attitude towards her, Camille knew it must be for her own good. However, she wasn’t a child anymore, and no matter what the situation was, she wanted to know and understand everything clearly.
She tentatively asked Ayan in a low voice, “Ayan, Crystal said she would come back to work. Why haven’t we seen her yet? Is she perhaps wary of you? What exactly is going on between you and the Bill family? Can you tell me?”
She tried to keep her tone calm and natural, not wanting to show she was probing.
Her words caused Ayan to pause briefly, followed by his indifferent response. “Didn’t I already tell you? It’s just some work-related matters.”
“What exactly is it? It’s surprising that even Crystal is afraid. We’ve been working together for quite some time, from the design competition until now. She has always been a fearless girl. But this time, she’s afraid because of your involvement with the Bill family.”
Camille spoke casually, but her expression was particularly grim.
She hoped that Ayan would tell her the truth. Even if it was just a single sentence, at least she would have some glimpse of the truth, and she wouldn’t be so curious anymore.
After all, it was about her origin, she couldn’t help but be curious.
When Camille thought about these things, her mood became inexplicably low.
She sighed silently. In the end, she didn’t get any honest answers from Ayan.
Ayan continued to evade with work-related matters, and she didn’t continue to press for answers. She simply responded with a low “hmm” and the call ended.
After hanging up the phone, Camille lay on the couch, feeling down, and didn’t want to move at all.
The test results from the hospital wouldn’t come so quickly, but she was eager to know.
Lost in her thoughts, Grace arrived at that moment.
Of course, it was Camille who arranged to meet Grace herself. After all, lies would eventually be exposed, so she wouldn’t lie.
Grace felt somewhat curious about Camille inviting her twice in one day, but since Camille was willing to take the initiative to invite her, she was happy about it.
When she came over, she also brought ice cream and some snacks. They were essential for watching movies tonight and she had to be prepared in advance.
Camille said, “I was thinking of having you help me finish everything in the fridge, but you brought so much. I don’t think we can finish it all tonight. Ayan will probably be alone tomorrow!”
“Then won’t I be at fault? Mr. Simpson won’t be angry if he finds out, right?” Grace asked seriously and blinked her eyes subconsciously.
Camille just smiled and said casually, “If we don’t say anything, how could he possibly find out?”
Grace nodded in agreement. “You’re right. As long as we don’t say anything, how could he possibly know?”
Camille smiled slightly with a mischievous air about her. Grace caught onto it and whispered softly, “Are you lying to me?”
Camille assured her, “No, I’m telling the truth. I mean every word. Please believe me, okay?”
After making these assurances, Grace finally seemed satisfied.
The two of them ate and watched movies together in a very harmonious atmosphere.
Naturally, there was no conversation during the movie.
However, Grace suddenly thought of something. She looked at Camille and whispered, “Camille, what were we getting blood tests for when you took me to the hospital today? Honestly speaking, I’m quite curious. Can you tell me the truth?”
Grace’s question caught Camille off guard.
Their gazes met. Camille blinked lightly and calmly replied, “I don’t know how to explain it to you right now. It’s not something bad though, and it’s definitely not because I’ve been diagnosed with some terminal illness, so you really don’t need to worry. If anything comes up, I promise I’ll tell you right away, okay?”
Camille looked very seriously as she fixed her gaze on Grace, so Grace didn’t have any additional thoughts. She simply nodded and said, “No matter what happens, please tell me first.”
Camille nodded in agreement. “I promise!”
Although Grace still had some worries in her heart, Camille reassured her multiple times. It wouldn’t be appropriate for her to continue pressing on.
So, she nodded lightly and whispered, “Okay.”
But this matter had been on Grace’s mind all along. She paid close attention to Camille’s every word and action but never noticed anything unusual.
That night, Grace stayed over at Camille’s place.
They slept in the guest room because Grace didn’t want to mess up Camille’s master bedroom.
Although Camille didn’t mind at all, Grace insisted on it. There was no way for Camille to force her into anything.
After the movie, they went to bed.
They lay flat on their backs, staring at the ceiling. The bedroom was pitch black. Some things were easier to say when they couldn’t see each other face-to-face.
Grace took the initiative and said, “Camille, I really enjoy moments like this right now. Thank you for forgiving me and giving me a chance. If it weren’t for you, I’d probably be all alone. The situation between our parents has reached this point. Honestly speaking, it still hurts me deep down inside-especially Father. I’ve always been afraid to bring up this matter. Just thinking about it makes me feel unbearably sad.”
As Grace spoke, she choked up a bit. She sniffed and then said with a heavy nasal tone, “Even though a lot of time has passed, I still feel really upset when I think about it. I had a pretty good time abroad, but whenever I think about Dad, Mom, and the Armstrong family, I just feel an overwhelming amount of pressure. There were times I seriously questioned whether I was heading towards depression.”
Camille remained silent as Grace poured out all of her thoughts.
Only by letting everything out could she find peace.
After Grace finished expressing all of her bitterness, Camille spoke up softly, “Those bad things are already in the past. We need to move forward. As for what happened with the previous generation, don’t dwell on it or think too much about it. Their fate was their own choice. No one is to blame!”
