Camille simply smiled and said, “I’m fine, really. Don’t overthink it.”
Grace didn’t believe her. She had sent her a message late at night and then came to the hospital for a blood test, but she refused to say what the test was for.
Although Grace didn’t ask, she was still worried.
“Camille, are you feeling unwell? If there’s something wrong, you should tell me. I’m your sister,” Grace asked earnestly, her face filled with concern.
Her words were sincere, and her expression was solemn.
Camille felt somewhat moved by her words, but she only replied, “I’m really fine, I swear. I just want to figure some things out, so I need to get tested. Even if there is a problem, it’s not a big one. I’ll let you know once I find out, okay?”
She spoke honestly and her words didn’t sound like a joke.
As their gazes met, they both held deep tenderness and smiles in their eyes.
Since Camille had said that, Grace didn’t continue to press her for answers.
The two of them went to a restaurant together to have a meal.
During the meal, Camille said, “Keep today’s events a secret for me, okay?”
“Okay, but you have to promise me that you’ll tell me everything as soon as possible,” Grace replied.
“Okay, I promise,” Camille said with a smile.
After they finished eating, Camille dropped Grace off at Armstrong Corp before returning to the office herself.
Grace went straight to find Horace.
She saw Camille’s message in the morning, so she asked Horace to get some information from Ayan to see if they had been fighting.
With Camille’s reactions today added to the mix, it was hard for Grace not to worry.
Now that Camille left, she immediately went to find Horace for some clarity.
She knocked on his office door, and Horace looked up. He asked, “Finished meeting with Camille?”
“We had dinner.” Grace walked over and sat down, taking a sip of water from the cup in her hand.
She looked at Horace and asked, “What about the questions I asked you? How did it go?”
Horace put aside his work and walked over to sit beside her before answering, “I asked him, but Ayan seems fine! Maybe you overthought things?”
Grace pursed her lips slightly. Her worries didn’t diminish at all.
Whether she was mistaken or not, she didn’t know. If it turned out that she overthought, that would be great.
All she wanted was for Camille and Ayan to be well.
Grace’s worries still lingered as she leaned on Horace’s shoulder and whispered softly, “Camille is my only family now. I hope she’s okay. You have to stand by my side. Just because you’re close with Ayan doesn’t mean you should completely take his side. Understand?”
Horace raised his hand and gently stroked her hair as he softly said, “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
Grace nodded in satisfaction.
……
Meanwhile, Camille returned to the office.
Sienna had just woken up from her nap when Camille brought some food and drinks for everyone. Sienna teased her, saying, “Hey, there! Did you sleep in? Sleeping in and still sending me a message asking for leave, you must be really happy sleeping so comfortably!”
Camille didn’t respond emotionally to Sienna’s teasing. She simply smiled and raised the bag in her hand before calmly asking, “Do you want some food?”
Sienna immediately reached out her hand and took the bag while flattering Camille with a smile. “Of course, I want some! Thank you, darling!”
“Enough with your flattery. Give my future daughter-in-law some good nutrition!” Camille said lightly before Sienna burst into laughter.
The two of them entered the office together. Camille briefly discussed work matters with Sienna, who assured her with a smile, “Don’t worry, Ms. Armstrong. We’ve been working diligently.”
Camille glanced at Sienna before turning on her own computer.
There was a heaviness in Camille’s expression that was completely different from her usual relaxed state. Sienna noticed it immediately.
Sienna whispered softly, “Camille, what’s wrong? You seem off today.”
“What do you mean off? Tell me what you think,” Camille replied casually. She seemed open to hearing Sienna’s analysis.
Sienna furrowed her brows as if analyzing seriously before speaking, “You’re not quite yourself today. Did something happen?”
Camille smiled and replied casually, “Nothing at all. I’m fine.”
Camille was truly acting strangely today. Sienna could sense it clearly.
But as their gazes met, Sienna couldn’t pinpoint what exactly was wrong since all she could perceive were feelings. She was not a mind reader, after all!
Camille simply reassured Sienna while keeping whatever was bothering her hidden beneath the surface.
She let out an inaudible sigh. Even her smile seemed somewhat forced.
Not understanding certain things made her feel uneasy and distracted her.
This feeling made her truly uncomfortable.
In the afternoon, although she started working, her efficiency was still low.
After work, instead of going back to Franklin Bay as usual, she went to Maple Leaves Mansion instead.
Ayan had been waiting for her at home but found only Sienna there. Worried, he called her, asking where she was.
“I’m back home,” Camille answered casually.
“I’m also at home. Why didn’t I see you?” Ayan asked with concern in his voice.
“I’m at Maple Leaves Mansion,” Camille replied calmly.
“Why did you suddenly go there?” Ayan asked with a serious tone in his voice.
Camille responded lightly without skipping a beat, “Because there are lots of food in the fridge that I don’t want to waste. There are also many fruits that need to be eaten up. I plan on bringing whatever I can’t finish tomorrow morning for everyone at the office.”
Her response flowed naturally without any flaws or loopholes.
Ayan fell silent for two seconds before finally speaking up again, “Should I come over now?”
“Oh? Are you coming over?” Camille pretended to be surprised. “But I just made plans with Grace to watch a movie! It’s been so long since we’ve hung out together. Even though she’s with Horace now and they’re engaged, as you know, she spent more time with our parents when we were younger and has gone through so much recently, she’s still fragile.”
Camille’s words sounded natural and convincing as if nothing were amiss compared to any other day.
Naturally, Ayan didn’t suspect a thing.
In the end, he didn’t go over but stayed at Franklin Bay. He said, “You’re not allowed to go there tomorrow! Otherwise, I’ll buy up the entire neighborhood!”
“Wow! Mr. Simpson, are you planning on using your financial power?” Camille chuckled playfully, but there wasn’t a trace of laughter in her eyes.
