In front of the police car was a black car leading the way. Anthony jumped out, “Mr. Oconnor!”
When the police arrived, a group of people immediately dropped their weapons, leaving behind a scene of chaos and mixed bloodstains.
“Gathering for a brawl, huh? You guys have some nerve!” The police officers stepped forward. “Everyone, squat down! Hands on your heads!”
These people were repeat offenders and were used to the process. Although they were impatient, they squatted down.
Nelson didn’t move. “We are the victims.”
A police officer raised an eyebrow. “From what I just saw, you looked more like the aggressor.”
Callie quickly explained, “Officer, we really are the victims. I just called you for help. You can check the record.” She took out her phone.
The lead officer was skeptical, but soon someone reported, “It’s her.”
They didn’t make things difficult for them after that.
“Explain the situation.”
Callie helped the frightened Eliza up and explained everything in detail.
After listening, the police officer understood and kicked a man with a scar on his face. “It’s you guys again!”
It seemed this wasn’t their first time.
“Miss, what kind of grudge do you have with them?”
“Grudge… they might have been trying to assault us.” Callie made something up. Since they were repeat offenders, the police probably couldn’t do much to them and wouldn’t trace it back to Owen.
“Who the hell was trying to assault you?” The men protested.
“Shut up!”
The officer walked up to Nelson. “And you, what’s your story?”
He wore a black shirt and pants, stained with sweat and blood. The tight shirt revealed the contours of his chest and abs. Standing in the sunlight, he exuded an air of defiance.
Nelson glanced at Callie from afar, his emotions complex. “I was passing by and acted bravely for a just cause.”
The officer raised an eyebrow. “What a coincidence? Acting bravely all the way here, and you just happened to bring some muscle?”
Nelson said no more. Anthony stepped forward immediately and handed over a business card. “Mr. Oconnor is here in Anbusea for a summit. For safety reasons, he brought a few bodyguards.”
The officer remained suspicious, continually scrutinizing Nelson.
Growing impatient under the scrutiny, Nelson frowned. “Just tell me if we saved them or not.”
Indeed, except for Eliza being scared, the two women were unharmed.
“Officer, he’s telling the truth,” Callie interjected.
So they stopped investigating further. As things wrapped up, Nelson and Callie exchanged a glance. His eyes held both familiarity and strangeness, as if they hadn’t seen each other in years.
Back at the hotel where they were staying, Nelson exuded an aura of danger, still smelling of blood. After getting out of the car, Callie followed closely behind him.
After walking some distance and nearing a crowded area, Nelson stopped and turned around, reprimanding her. “Go back.”
Callie didn’t move. “You were injured in the shoulder last time; it must be worse this time. It’s my fault, and I need to make sure you’re okay.”
Her words were full of responsibility but lacked concern.
He sneered coldly. “I acted bravely for a just cause. Whether it’s good or bad has nothing to do with you.”
“It has nothing to do with me,” Callie replied quickly. “But I have something to tell you.”
It seemed that was her real purpose.
Nelson had no choice but to leave first, instructing Anthony to bring her up before he left.
As his figure disappeared into the distance, Anthony quickly explained, “Miss Marsh, Mr. Oconnor is worried you’ll be criticized in front of so many people.”
“I don’t care.”
Just as Anthony was about to praise her understanding nature, she continued, “I’m just afraid he’ll die and cause me trouble.”
