“Wait!” Callie looked up at the trembling Eliza. “You can punish me, but this girl is innocent. Let her go.”
“Why should I listen to you?” The man glanced at Eliza.
“Owen wants me, not her. I have no parents, no husband. Taking me won’t matter, but she has parents and is from Ylosea. If she goes missing, it will be hard for you to handle.”
Callie spoke quickly, hitting their weak spot. “The situation is tense now; you don’t want trouble, do you?”
The man seemed to find some sense in her words. “If I let her go, what if she reports us?”
“Then… then drop her off far away, in a deserted place. It will take her some time to get back and report, by then you’ll have dealt with me, right?” Callie tried to buy time.
“Callie… I won’t go. I can’t leave you alone!” Eliza cried loudly, terrified by the scene.
“Listen to me. I can’t protect myself, but I can protect you.” Callie signaled her with her eyes.
“Playing the sisterly love act?” The man slapped Callie and then signaled for someone to drag Eliza away. “Take her away. Oh, and break a leg before she goes!”
“Yes!”
“No, don’t come near…”
A bodyguard raised an iron rod and smashed it towards Eliza’s leg with all his might. She closed her eyes, bracing for the pain.
Callie widened her eyes and saw a car speeding towards them. It hit the bodyguard, causing him to fall and drop the iron rod.
“Callie!” A sharp voice called out. She looked over and saw Nelson sitting in the car, his hand gripping the door tightly.
“Nelson?” Callie was surprised. “What are you doing here?”
“Damn! Sneak attack!” The bodyguards were good fighters. They rushed at Nelson, aiming for vital spots. He dodged nimbly, breaking one of their wrists with a swift move.
There were too many of them for him to fight from the car, so he jumped out, picked up an iron rod, and fought them off while keeping Callie behind him.
Nelson hadn’t come alone but didn’t expect such a situation. He only brought two or three bodyguards, and the fight was intense.
The clashing of iron rods was deafening, making Callie’s heart race. She clutched Nelson’s shirt, warning him of positions. “Left! Be careful!”
Nelson kicked the person on his left several meters away and continued fighting those in front of him.
“Damn it, didn’t you say you were getting a divorce?” Someone cursed from the crowd.
Maybe it was this comment that distracted Nelson slightly. Someone rushed from behind, aiming at Callie. He quickly turned, shielding her with his body.
The iron rod hit his back with a dull thud, shaking Callie’s heart.
Nelson’s face turned pale instantly, struggling to straighten his back.
Callie looked up in disbelief. “Nelson!”
He gripped the iron rod tightly, frowning and cursing under his breath. “Same spot again.”
He then stood up with effort, hitting the attacker on the back of the head and kicking him away in anger.
Outnumbered, Nelson’s side was gradually losing strength. But just then, sirens blared; the police had arrived.
