POV: Victoria
“Do you know what I love most about you two beautiful babies?” Mom asks us excitedly, a bright smile plastered on her face.
“It’s the fact that you love me and call me mom. You trust and depend on me for everything, that is why I adore you two. Do you remember how I used to be there by your bed when you were babies? You could never go to bed without me, you could never leave my side for even one minute.” She let out excitedly as she combed Claire’s hair with a smile on her face.
We have been lying in one place for more than one day now. I don’t know how long the drugs are supposed to last, but glad mom and that mean guy she calls Allen have not thought of giving us more drugs to keep us looking as limp as vegetables.
But Mom has refused to leave our side for even one second. She sat on our beds taking turns on each bed as she talked about our childhood. Claire and I are in pain, we still can’t move, and Mom is acting like a freaking lunatic. She treats us like little babies, feeding and bathing us like babies.
She just finished bathing Claire and now she is combing her hair and talking about our childhood, reminding us about the happy memories we shared as kids in her care. To be honest, this is exactly how she treated us as kids. She always started with Claire because she was the younger one. She would bathe and dress us one after the other, giving us well-detailed motherly care, paying attention to every small detail.
We always looked perfect and cared for. She loved us as if we meant everything to her. Why did she turn out this way, why did she have to hurt us so badly after showing us so much love and care?
You know, after Miguel told me the truth the other day, I was as pissed as hell. I was furious at Mom and Raphael for hiding the truth from me and making me look so stupid. But deep down in my heart, I always thought that we would get past this and still treat her with the love and respect that she deserves as the woman who showed us so much love and care.
Whatever her reasons were for kidnapping, I know that one thing is certain. She never treated us badly; she loved and cared for us as if we were her own. From the way she has been acting since this whole saga began, it’s obvious that she has such underlying mental issues that everyone seems to ignore. She lacks love and attention, and the hate she gets from everyone has turned her into a monster that everyone is so afraid of.
“I love you this way; I love how you depend on me for everything. This is how we are supposed to be, together and happy. Why did you have to grow up and become so difficult and stupid.” She asked me furiously as she hit me hard across the face, making my face turn the other way.
She hits us at will, me especially, forgetting that she used to be our mother. Claire has not stopped crying since she discovered that her family is no more. I guess it’s the fact that my brother and Raphael are the two people causing her more problems; that’s why she hits me at every chance she gets.
“We were supposed to be together forever and happy. Why did you have to be so stupid, why did you ruin our family?” she yelled furiously, her eyes filled with tears as she glared at me as if I were the devil sent to destroy her family. I felt my heart jump in fear as I thought of what she might do to me if she thought I was not remorseful.
“I’m so sorry mom, I never meant to destroy our family. I thought I was doing the right thing, but I was deceived by Miguel and Raphael. They got into my head and made me believe that you are the enemy. I should never have listened to them, Mom. I’m sorry that I let them get to me that way; I’m sorry that I failed you.” I told her, faking sadness and forcing my tears to drop.
“And what about you, Claire? What do you have to say for yourself?
Are you as remorseful as your sister, are you willing to admit to being wrong and apologize to me like your sister?” she asked Claire, turning to her with that same dangerous look she had given me a few minutes earlier. Claire turned to look at me and she burst into fits of laughter because she could tell that I was lying my ass off.
I could not give her any signal because Mom was standing right there in front of us. If mom finds out that I’m lying to her face, it could be the end of us. I’m not even sure that she completely believes me, but I would rather keep faking it and buying us more time to wait for our rescuers to get to us than provoke her like Claire is doing right now.
She is laughing so hard that tears are coming out of her eyes. I know she doesn’t care anymore because she has no family like Mom told us. But I’m still her family and I care so much about her. I don’t care what the DNA results say. Claire is my sister and there is nothing anyone would say or do to change that.
“Claire is sorry too mom, I know she is. She loves you just like I do and that is why she agreed to come back home when she heard that you wanted to see her. Dominic tried to make her gate you, he tried to take her away from us. But she is smarter than him, she did not let him get into her head.” I told her excitedly, mimicking the smile on her face.
“This is just so perfect!
Can’t you see how happy we are, can’t how much I love you two?” She asked in excitement, coming around to stand in a spot where we could not see her from our sleeping position on the bed.
“If you two can keep this up and prove to me that you are ready to change and behave yourself like you used to, then there will be no problems between us, and we will live happily ever after!” she lets out joyfully as she leaned down and pecks our cheeks, smiling so radiantly and acting like the mom we used to know.
You would never know that a few minutes ago, she was so close to killing one of us. No, not one of us, me. It’s me she wants dead and not Claire. She caressed our cheeks and played with our hair, ruffling it like she used to do when we were kids.
“This is all I’ve ever wanted, this is all I ever ask of you. Is it too much to ask, is it wrong to wish for a happy family?” she asked sadly, acting insane.
