Tristan
It has been twenty-four hours already since Isabella woke up. I was in the doctor’s results to hear what the rest results were. Also, everyone was here her family, her friends, mine, Micah, and grandfather sent flowers too. That should mean something right? I thought sighing, when the door opened and Doctor Eddie walked in with an envelope in his hands.
“Good morning,” he gave me a small smile.
“I’m sorry about yesterday doctor,” I apologize sincerely. I lost it for a minute, and I shouldn’t have done that, no matter how I was feeling.
“It’s okay sir,” He coughed a little, and I couldn’t tell if he accepted my apologies or if he was still uncomfortable with me.
“Let’s get started with this,” He said and placed the two envelopes on the table where I could see them.
“Okay,” I exhaled.
“So we have two results, one is good news and the other well,” He sighed.
“Start with the uncomfortable news,” I said to him, almost regretting saying that. But the truth was, it didn’t matter the order the news came, I was going to hear them both either way.
“How did I put this,” The doctor sighed but gave me a small smile.
“Mrs. Tristan has amnesia,” He sighed, and I felt like I was getting drowned in a deep ocean and I could not breathe.
“Amnesia,” I repeated my voice broke, like I didn’t know what that meant. I knew what it meant. I knew what amnesia was, but why? Was the universe punishing me for this? Was I getting punished? I thought.
“I’m so sorry sir,” Doctor Eddie was trying to sympathize with me, but truthfully I didn’t want it.
“And the good news,” his eyes lit up instantly.
“Mrs. Tristan is pregnant,” He said and I felt a loud thud on my head.
“What?” The thud got louder, and it felt like I was losing my breath.
“Yes, she’s pregnant,” He repeated happily.
“Congratulations sir,” He added excitedly, but I didn’t know if I was.
“I’m having a baby? I’m going to be a father?” I chuckled at the last thought.
“A father? I have no father, yet I’m going to become one,” I shook my head dreading my thoughts. I didn’t want to be anything like Mr. George, and right now Isabella barely recognized me.
“I don’t feel celebratory,” I sighed, and immediately the excitement in the doctor’s face dissolved.
“Why is that?” He asked.
“I don’t know yet,” I sighed, but that was a lie. I knew why, I think I knew why for a long time now, and it had something to do with Mr. George.
“Can we talk more about the amnesia,” I said to him, quickly changing the topic.
“We need to keep her observation,” He replied.
“What did you mean?” I looked confused.
“Right now we don’t know how much she remembers or how much she does not. So you could please bring the people in her life, things that were sentimental to her while we observe her behavior and his much she recalls,” He explained.
“Okay, that won’t be a problem, everyone in her life is here,” I told him anticipating both in fear and curiosity to see how it goes.
“Can you please keep the pregnancy news to yourself,” I gave him a small smile and he kids in agreement.
“Alright, let’s go,” He rose on his feet and we both left his office together. He relayed the amnesia news to everyone and then gave them a moment to recover from the impact of the news before we walked into the room for the observation.
We entered the room, and immediately she saw us, she started to cry.
“Mom, Dad,” She got up from her bed and ran to hug them.
“Of mine, age knows who we are,” His mom cried out, and I watched as my heart gladdened.
“How are you, baby girl?” Her dad hugged her and gave her a light kiss on her forehead, while she smiled and responded to him.
“Amelia?” She smiled and Amelia walked forward to her. Her parents gave when as the two ladies exchanged pleasantries.
“Why are you all here? The doctor said I’m fine,” She chuckled staring at Ava. Our eyes met for a second, but she took it away paying attention to everyone else.
“Is El and Gerald here?” She looked at her parents.
“You know who they are?” Her mom stared at me, then she looked at them confused by their question.
“What do you mean Mom? They are my siblings,” she shook her head and responded to her mom’s statement like it was nothing.
“They are busy back in San Francisco,” Her dad said and gave her hand a light squeeze, while she smiled and paused staring in my direction.
“You,” She pointed, and immediately she got down from the bed and walked in my direction, my heart beat rapidly, and my body leaped in joy.
“She walking toward you, she knows you,” I kept hearing in my head as she got further to me.
“What are you doing here?” She laughed and my heart melted at the sight. It’s been long, it’s been so long since I saw that.
“I,..” I was already opening my arms to embrace her but stopped halfway when she hugged him instead.
“Micah,” she hugged him, smiling brightly. He stood beside me, and immediately I noticed that, I stared at him in anger, I glared at him but instead of being frightened of me, he went ahead to wrap his hands around her waist, causing me to gasp.
“Take your hands off my wife,” I took his hands away immediately,
“Wife?” She pulled away and stared at me with a confused expression.
“Who are you?” She looked at me from head to toe vividly, while I staggered backwards.
“Oh no, this can’t be happening again,” I thought staring at her in bewilderment as I wondered if I was the only person missing in her memory.
