Isabella
I was grateful that the ride to the office was in silence, Tristan attended to the calls from clients, and I just used that moment to rest. I didn’t want to argue with him and dragged on with the conversation when he offered me a ride. I simply smiled and got into the car, resting my head immediately, and catching a little sleep.
“We are here sir,”
“Shhh,” I heard Tristan say and I fluttered my eyes open, and looked around. He was signaling for the driver to keep shut. We were already at the parking loft in the company.
“Why would you do that? Do you plan on doing something to me?” I pointed my finger at him in fear, whereas the other clutched my purse as I shifted backward.
“What! No,” He scoffed, bewildered by my reaction and question.
“Why would you even think that muffin,” he asked.
“So why did you shush him,” The driver had already left the car by now and it was just the both of us.
“Because you were already sleeping and I thought maybe you would want to rest some more,” He explained and I mouthed an”oh”.
“Thank you and I’m sorry,” I said and brushed my fingers through my hair.
“All good, muffin,” he said and grabbed his briefcase.
“So, shall we?” He opened the door, and I nodded. He got down first, then offered his hands to me which I received before getting down from the car.
We walked passed the parking lot and into the elevator leading to the office. We arrived at the floor together, and people stared at us with envy and jealousy.
There were whispers but mostly greetings cause nobody wanted to be on his bad side. I thought to myself, recalling how I was just like them in the past scared of him, and also a devoted worker, seeking his responses and attention like everyone. But here I was standing beside him, getting that attention but one thing remains the same, and that is-I am scared of him…
We arrived at the top floor, and I walked to my office, while he got into us.
“Here’s to Monday,” I groaned and turned on the monitor in front of me and immediately started to tap on it.
Hours passed and it was lunchtime now, I stood on my feet to go to the cafeteria when my phone beeped. I looked at the notification and I got a text from Micah.
My face lit up instantly. I rushed back to my seat and grabbed the phone to respond immediately tapping on my screen.
“Want to hang out?” I read and I smiled
“Maybe? What do you have in mind?” I typed back and sent it to him, waiting for his response patiently.
“Junks? Or a fancy meal?” I chuckled as I read that, recalling how much I enjoyed the cafe fast food last time.
“A fancy meal,” I respond to his text.
“One fancy meal coming right up my lady,” I chuckled as I read the text, imagining him doing a cute bow.
“Patiently waiting sir,” I giggled, and brought my palms to my mouth, closing it from how much I was smiling due to my chatting with Micah.
“I’ll see you soon,” he said and I sent a thumbs to him, before turning off my phone.
I stayed there for a moment, daydreaming of a perfect time with him. I sighed and shook off my head bringing myself back to reality. I decided to get some work done while I waited for him to arrive and then we would both have a great time like I had imagined.
I got back to work and got so completely immersed in it that I didn’t notice that lunch break had gone far by an hour. I only did notice when a random notification popped on my phone, making me see the time.
“Damn,” As if realizing that made me more hungry, cause my stomach made a rumbling sound.
“Did I miss his text?” I asked myself, and unlocked my phone, staring at our last text. And my thumbs up was the last thing there. I refreshed the page again, thinking a new text from him would just pop up.
“What happened?” I thought sadly when I stared at the screen of my phone. I sighed again and kept my phone on the table finding the motivation to continue my work.
I started to type on the keyboard, a little downcasted when the telephone rang.
“Isabel speaking,” I said over the phone…
“There’s a person here waiting to see you,” The receptionist said.
“Someone wants to meet me?” I thought to myself, still on the call.
“Do I send them up?” She asked.
“Please send them to me,” I responded, because truthfully I didn’t have the energy to go down to the floor.
“Okay then,” She said and we both hung up at the same time.
“Who could it be?” My head went away for a moment before I gave my attention to the screen. The elevator finally opened the door, I immediately turned my gaze in that direction and stared to know who the person was.
I stretched my head a little further to see, and behold there he was walking to my table looking so cute.
“Micah!)” I said shocked, and immediately rose to my feet, staring at him with happiness mixed with a little confusion.
“Oh my gosh,”
“What are you doing here? ” I asked him staring at the flower and bag he held.
“I’m sorry I didn’t call you or not text, but there was an emergency at work and they needed me,” He explained nervously and I smiled at him.
“It’s all good, I understand it happens sometimes,” I told him truthfully, although I still felt crushed by what happened.
“Even though I can’t go back to the past, I’m glad that I got you a little something and hope you see it as a sincere apology,” He dropped the bag on my table, I looked at him surprised, as I could inhale the amazing aroma coming from the bag.
“You got me food,” I squealed at that, obviously there were no apologies intended and this gladdened my heart.
“Thank you,” Immediately after I had just said that Mr. Tristan walked out of his office and walked up to us.
“What’s going on here Isabel,” I knew that tone and very well that things were about to take a kinda bad turn.
“He was just leaving,” I quickly said, staring at him with a glare on my face. But obviously, he wasn’t having it.
“This is working hours and you know damn well you’re supposed to be working and not entertaining people while other people are working?” He ranted out.
“I’m sorry, I just wanted to get lunch for Isabella,” he smiled at me, but I didn’t know how but I could see how infuriated he made Tristan right now.
“I wasn’t talking to you Mr, I was talking to my wife,” he half yelled and turned to look at me with those bloodshot eyes.
“Mr. Tristan,” I yelled angered by the way he spoke to Micah.
“Mind the voice you use on her,” Micah immediately said, staring at him with a glare just as intense as the one Tristan had on his face.
“Excuse me,” Tristan moved closer to him, and Micah did not back out as he took a step forward to Tristan too, leaving them just inches apart from each other.
“You heard what I said. Don’t talk to her in that tone again,” Micah repeated himself.
“I swear to God, I’ll give you a punch if you say one more thing again,” Tristan said and immediately I rushed from my cubicle and stepped in front of them.
“Tristan,” I called out grabbed him by the hand, and pulled him away from Micah.
“I’m so sorry Micah, but I’ll text you,” I told him off as I pulled Tristan by his hands and walked into his office, leaving Micah standing there.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” I pulled my hands away immediately we got into his office.
“What’s wrong with me?” He scoffed.
“You’re the one, having a chat during working hours, “he went on and pointed to the direction of my office, and I glared at him.
“He brought me lunch?” I said tired, as I rubbed my hands on my forehead frustrated by him.
“Lunch? That man had flowers in his hands. That wasn’t just lunch,” He rambled
“His name is Micah, and yes it was just lunch,” I told him with an eye roll.
“Yeah, I’m sure everyone thinks that Isabel,” He said sarcastically, and I just scoffed.
“Are you being for real now?”
“You tell me what are people going to think?” I folded my hands and stared at me.
“Gosh Isabel, we are married and then you have a man come see you in the company that your husband owns with flowers. What do you think is going on in their brains right now?” He stated, his words fueled my anger and I looked at him with hate and pain.
“Oh cut the crab Tristan,” I said with an emotionless face at him, and before he could respond to me, I cut him off.
“You and I both know that this marriage is not real,” I said in anger, and at that moment the entire anger he had carried all over his face had dissolved immediately.
“Right,” he stumbled backward but immediately held onto his desk as he placed his weight on it.
“Of course, it’s a fake marriage,” He chuckled like he had lost it.
“And all of this, all this act isn’t necessary,” I added.
“I already have a lot on my plate, and I cannot deal with you suffocating me,” I said in a low tone.
“I suffocate you,” He rose on his feet and suddenly walked up to me, with his hand on his chest as he asked.
“I suffocate you, Isabel?” He asked as if my response was going to change what I already said.
“Yes, you’re always in my face and around me and I don’t like it,” I went bizarre trying to explain to him, how I’ve felt though I left the part of him bring in my head too.
“Of course I’m sorry,” his tone was low, and he took a step backward from me. I suddenly felt naked and exposed as his presence didn’t tower around me.
“Consider me gone,” He gave a small smile and went to his seat.
“I’m sorry for the misunderstanding,” he smiled at me and had his seat.
“Thank you,” I whispered, unsure of what to say to him.
“You may leave,” he dismissed me immediately and turned to look at the screen. I suddenly felt somewhat sad, and bad at the way the whole thing had ended. I turned around and left his office. I walked back to mine feeling a bit downcasted as I stared at the flowers and bag on my table from Micah.
I smiled slightly, and immediately sent a thank you text to him.
“I hope things didn’t escalate between you two,” Micah texted back.
“No, we are good,” I lied in my text, but I didn’t want to bore him with the details, plus it wasn’t his business either.
“So, can I see you when you close from work?” I looked at the message closely wondering in what direction this was headed.
“I don’t know,” I texted back.
“I just wanted us to hang out in the park, an hour before you go home,” He explained and I smiled but it was quickly replaced with sadness when I looked over my shoulders and Tristan was sitting and working on his laptop.
“Yeah sure,” I responded immediately, without thinking too much about it.
Yeah, maybe this was going to help me get over this fight. This was good for me, I told myself trying to feel excited.
“It’s Micah after all, and he’s fun and I feel good around him,” I talked in my head, staring at the screen and just trying to move past the whole Tristan drama…
“Everything would be good Isabella,” I said and released a deep breath before tapping on my keyboard.
