Glen’s POV
“Why? I thought you were in Jace’s pack!” my mother yelled on the phone.
“I’m sorry, Mother, but I want to be with my mate,” I answered honestly as I walked to my bedroom balcony.
“Your father…”
“I know, Mother. I won’t let my guard down, so don’t worry,” I answered, cutting her off.
The line went quiet for a few seconds.
When she sighed heavily, I chuckled softly.
“Mother, if I feel any evil or bad intentions from him, I will talk to Sky and leave this pack,” I said.
“You promise?” she asked softly.
I hated lying to her, and whenever I made a promise, I made sure to see it through.
“Mother, you need to rest. I’m sure you are tired from your gardening,” I said, changing the topic.
“Glen,” she whispered.
I knew how concerned she was and how it was all my fault for not telling her sooner that I was going to stay with Sky. But then there was no way she could have let me if she had known beforehand.
“Mother, I don’t want to lie to you or break my promise in any way. I want to be with Harley, even if my father has evil intentions towards me,” I answered sincerely.
“But you, my child, are…” she stopped talking and then sighed again.
“I can see you are willing to go through hell for her, so I won’t stop you. All I ask is that you take good care of yourself, and if your father threatens you in any way, leave,” she said.
“I will do just that, Mother,” I answered and then looked down when I saw Harley.
She was smiling and waving at Sky, who was a little further away from her.
He quickly smiled back and went to her.
I watched as he linked his hand to hers and began walking with her.
She couldn’t stop smiling or laughing as she moved.
Such moments were a little painful for me and Dominic, but still, we didn’t want to back away and completely accept defeat.
“Glen!” Mother called at the top of her voice.
“I’m here,” I answered loudly.
“You weren’t answering my question or responding in any way,” she said in a low tone.
“I’m sorry, Mother. Can I call you later?” I asked.
“Of course,” she answered.
I disconnected the call and walked to the bed, lying down.
“Dominic, what are we really doing here?” I asked softly.
“We don’t know where to begin or how to tell her the truth. She’s obviously assuming we are here for our brother’s sake,” I said, then closed my eyes.
I really missed my house and work, and I couldn’t help but wonder how Sophie was doing.
Was she happy to have Riff by her side? Was she finally putting work aside and living a little?
When I heard a knock, I sat upright with a frown.
“I’m coming,” I answered, then stood up and walked to the door.
Before I could grab the handle, I inhaled Harley’s scent.
I instantly opened the door and looked at her. Dominic was as shocked as I was to see her at our door.
“Harley?” I called, in what sounded like a question.
“Yes, it’s me,” she answered simply.
Why? Why was she here?
I wanted to ask her that, but then again, I was scared of causing a misunderstanding between us.
“Aren’t you going to ask me in?” she asked simply.
“Of course, please come in,” I answered loudly and then took a few steps back. She smiled and walked in.
I closed the door behind us and turned to face her.
“Um… Harley,” I called softly and then cleared my throat.
“Are you going to ask me what I am doing here?” she asked seriously.
I was about to agree when her expression turned cold.
“No, not at all. How can I, when I am very happy to have you here?” I answered nervously.
“Oh, then did you want to ask something else?” she asked.
“Yes, I wanted to ask if you were done taking a walk with Sky. I was so certain I saw the two of you taking a walk,” I answered.
She looked surprised that I saw them.
She shifted her gaze to the other side and then slowly moved and sat down on the bed.
“Sky received an important call that he had to take. He said it could take much longer than usual, so I thought I would come here and see how you were doing today,” she answered.
“I am very much okay; thank you for asking,” I said.
She nodded and then kept quiet. It felt awkward because I didn’t know what to say exactly.
“Glen, why did you come back here?” she asked, surprising me.
Not even once did I think she would ask me such a question.
“You don’t like your father, and although Sky is your twin brother, you didn’t acknowledge him much a few weeks ago,” she said.
“I know you do acknowledge him now, but is that reason enough for you to come to a pack that has an angry father who wants you dead, or are you planning on doing something to Sky?” she asked as I glared at her.
“What?” she asked.
“I can’t believe you would say that to me, Harley! Do you think I could hurt my very own twin brother?” I asked seriously.
“No, I didn’t mean it like that. I just… I honestly don’t know why you are here, okay! I have been thinking hard, and I couldn’t come up with any reasonable answer or explanation,” she answered.
“Then why didn’t you ask me?” I asked loudly.
“That’s why I am here right now; I want to ask just that,” she answered.
“Harley, I am here for you,” I said seriously.
She widened her eyes and quickly stood up furiously.
“What do you mean you are here for me?” she yelled.
“Harley, the day Dominic rejected you, you never accepted the rejection. That means you are technically still my mate. If you want to completely cut ties with me, then you are supposed to accept the rejection,” I said sadly.
“What happens if I accept it?” she asked in a whisper.
“Our bond becomes completely broken, and you get to live and love Sky freely,” I answered.
“And you?” she asked in a low tone.
“I would struggle, but then eventually find my way,” I answered, then faked a smile.
“Would you like that?” she asked softly.
“No, that’s why I am here,” I answered and then got to my knees.
“Glen, what are you doing?” she exclaimed.
“Begging for a second chance,” I answered seriously as she froze in shock.
