Jace’s POV
We all moved closer after Sky had calmed down.
This time around, he showed surrender rather than resistance, even when she took his hand and began walking to the entrance of the house.
Glen walked in first, looking very upset.
As for us, we had no idea what to do. We all looked at each other and then decided to just follow them inside.
When we stepped in, I noticed how the place wasn’t only well-kept but also had amazing decorations.
She was obviously richer than in the past; that’s why her companies were among the best of the best.
“Please sit, all of you,” she said softly when we walked into the living room.
Glen sat on her left side when she sat down, but Sky remained standing. When she tagged his hand, he sighed heavily and then sat down.
We all sat down and looked at them in silence.
We didn’t want to intervene or disturb their reunion; that’s why we decided to stay back when Sky approached the place.
We were so shocked at how Sky took down the gate and almost beat the Delta that came to stop him to a pulp.
A part of me wanted badly to spar with him, while this other part was so proud to have such a cousin.
When a few minutes went by in silence, I decided to break it.
“Aunt, it’s been a long time,” I said, taking my eyes off Sky.
She was looking at him like he was the only one in the room.
“Jace, I’m so sorry for not realizing your presence sooner. You sure have grown so much,” she said and then laughed softly.
“Yes, well, I came to bring my long-lost cousin to meet you,” I answered as Sky glared at me.
“Thank you,” she whispered softly and then looked at him, brushing her hand through his hair.
“Aunt, this besides me is Lillian; she is an Alpha and my mate. Lillian, meet Aunt Berta, Sky and Glen’s mother,” I introduced.
Lillian quickly stood up and went to give her a hug, surprising all of us.
When she pulled back, she chuckled nervously.
“Relax, she won’t bite,” I mind-linked her.
“Does it show that I’m very nervous?” she asked through our mind-link.
“Yes, a lot,” I answered.
“It’s nice meeting you, ma’am. I have heard a lot about you. You know, very nice things,” she said loudly as I held in laughter.
She wasn’t acting like herself; she really was nervous.
“Don’t panic, Aunt Berta is kind. The one who is usually cold is Lorin,” I told her, still using our mind-link.
She smiled and then held her hand with her free one.
“You are so pretty and well-mannered. It’s an honor to meet you, Lillian,” she said and then looked at me.
“I can tell how happy Jace is just by looking at you,” she said as I smiled widely.
“Harley, please stand up,” I said, and she quickly did.
“Aunt, this woman’s name is Harley; she is Sky’s mate. Harley, this is your future mother-in-law,” I introduced her.
Lillian took a few steps back as Harley moved closer.
Berta quickly dropped her hand from Sky and stood up to embrace her with a wide smile.
“Welcome, my dear,” she greeted cheerfully and then pulled back to look at her carefully.
“You are so beautiful, and a dragon at that,” she said as she touched her cheeks.
“I’m sure you love my son dearly,” she whispered as Harley looked at Sky, who was looking at her with a calm expression.
“Yes, I love him a lot,” she answered.
Berta was about to say something when Glen stood up furiously and began walking to the door.
“Glen,” Berta called softly after she had dropped her hands.
“What is it?” he answered coldly.
“Where are you going?” she asked in concern.
“Anywhere far from here,” he answered.
“Son, what is it this time?” she asked.
“It’s nothing,” he answered and then began to walk away.
“I think it’s because of Harley, who rejected him some time back,” I said simply.
Glen quickly turned and looked at me with a shocked expression while Sky gave me a murderous look.
“What’s there to hide? Sooner or later, she would have found out,” I pointed out the obvious.
“Oh, so she is the one you talked about?” she asked seriously as Harley looked at me with a terrified expression.
I could see it in her eyes how scared she was of being on the bad side of Berta.
“Does it matter?” Glen asked as he shifted his gaze to her.
“It does when it involves you and your brother,” she answered.
“Mother, seriously, I am so happy that you met Sky, but right now I don’t want to be here. You do understand that, I believe,” he said coldly.
When her eyes switched to that of Lorin, we all could feel a change in aura, and I knew then and there how things wouldn’t go so smoothly.
“Sit down,” came her command.
“Damn, I remember why I don’t like her,” Ridge said.
“You mean we,” I answered him silently.
Her rank was lower than most of us in the room, yet her voice held the dominance of a Luna, and she was still the scary aunt I didn’t want to freely talk to, unlike Berta.
He frowned but went back and sat down.
As a child, Glen feared her, and I could completely relate.
When she turned and faced Sky, he immediately stood up and tensed.
“And you, how could you look at your brother like one looks at an enemy?” she asked.
“Because he is. Did you think I would welcome him with open arms, old h…,” he quickly cut his sentence short when she raised her brow.
“Mother,” he whispered in a low tone, shocking me.
I knew Lorin was dominant, but how could Sky back down just like that?
“He is your twin brother, and I expect you to treat him as such. You not liking him is understandable because that bastard must have brainwashed you, but I don’t want to hear or see hate, be it in your speech or eyes. Do I make myself clear?” she asked.
When Sky couldn’t respond, she folded her arms.
“Am I clear, son?” she asked with emphasis.
“Yes… mother,” he answered with hesitation.
“Good,” she said softly and then faced Harley, who quickly lowered her gaze to the ground.
She was a dragon, yet she was showing so much respect to her, and that was what Lorin liked.
“It wasn’t your fault but his,” she said seriously, causing Harley to look up.
“He treated you terribly and hurt you; that’s why you had to let go,” she said as Harley moved her hand to her cheek.
“He told my human everything there is to know. If it’s any consolation to you, he cried so much and regretted ever doing that to you,” she said and then looked at Glen coldly.
“His words were pitiful. He said if he could turn back time, he would treat you right; that way, you could look at him as you do his brother. So rejoice, daughter; he is miserable and suffering as you might have wished and wanted,” she said and then sat down.
“Now, child, I believe you have questions for me. Ask now, and I’ll truthfully tell you what you need to know. Berta might keep a few things out of fear of hurting your feelings when you are already a grown pup, but I won’t,” she said.
We were all looking at her in amazement and shock over how she could manage to control the situation and say such words without remorse or care.
She really was one of a kind.
