Glen’s POV
“Mother, where should I put your roses?” I asked softly in the living room as soon as we walked in.
“Oh, those? Put them in the vase that is on the dining counter,” she answered simply.
“Okay,” I said, and then walked to the dining room.
Since our heart-to-heart talk, I decided to stay with her for a few days. It wasn’t only for our bonding but also for my self-healing and hopefully hers as well.
She was so kind and very attentive to me that I felt very happy. I wished to stay with her for a few more years if she would let me; sadly, I had a lot of work to do at the company, and her place was further away from it than my own.
“Do I look like a mess?” she asked with a warm smile after I had done what she had asked me to and returned to the living room.
“No, not at all,” I lied.
Her gardening clothes were a mess, and her hair was a little scruffy.
“Son, you are a terrible liar,” she said, then laughed softly while she took off her gardening gloves.
I, too, was in gardening clothes because we were tending to her flowers. When she asked me to help her out, I was reluctant but then ended up having a lot of fun and learning what kind of flowers she liked.
She dropped the dirty gloves on the glass table, then walked to where I was standing and grabbed my hands.
“Now that we are done, how about you go into your room and take a nice warm bath? After that, I will prepare a nice meal for you to eat,” she said.
I was about to respond when I heard a loud growl, which was followed by a loud thud and a squeaking sound that slightly shook the ground.
We quickly rushed outside the house and stood close to the entrance, facing the gate that was torn from the wall fence. My mother’s butler was badly injured on the ground and moving backward, trying to crawl away.
Two cars were parked far away from the wall fence, and standing right where the gate was supposed to be was Sky.
He looked very furious, and his wolf was in total control.
“Mother, please go inside; I will handle him,” I said seriously and went to stand in front of her, facing him.
For him to come this far only to hurt her butler meant he was out for blood, not peace. If he wanted to harm our mother or cause her any pain, he had to first go through me.
“That won’t be necessary,” she answered and then walked past me.
“Mom,” I called in a whisper.
I was getting scared just watching her approach him.
When she stood a little further away from him, his eyes turned back to their normal color.
“Son,” she whispered and then spread her arms wide.
He looked at me and then back at her with a raised brow.
“Are you insane, old hag?” he asked, pissing me off.
“How dare you talk to our mother like that!” I growled out furiously.
“Oh, so she’s the amazing Berta who has my damn father in a chokehold? I was expecting someone very beautiful and not some old hag. But looking at you closely, I can see why you abandoned me; I was too good for you, “He said then froze when our mother moved closer to him.
She was about to touch him when he grabbed her hand.
“Just because we share the same blood, it doesn’t mean I’m okay with you touching me, old hag,” he spat, then let go of her hand.
I was about to move when she raised her hand and dropped it. I knew that gesture well; she was stopping me from interfering.
How was he so disrespectful to her, calling her bad names when she looked nothing like her age? The one he was supposed to spit on and hate was our damn father.
“Sky,” she called as he moved his hand to his forehead, hitting it a few times.
“Don’t fucking call my name, Berta,” he said loudly.
That was it! I wasn’t going to sit around and do nothing.
I walked to where they were and stood next to her.
“Are you stupid or what, you fool? The one you are supposed to be angry at is your damn father, not her. Our mother is a very kind soul who cares a lot about everyone, including trash like you!”I yelled and then felt shivers go down my spine when his eyes turned into a dark shade of red.
“Quiet, you little mouse, before I put you to rest forever,” he warned.
I wanted to resist, but I found myself taking a step back and staying quiet.
“Glen, I know that you feel the need to protect me right now, but you shouldn’t. Sky is my baby, and he is hurting as much as you were hurting. If calling me names and yelling at me will make him feel better, then I will gladly let him,” she said as his eyes switched back to their usual color again.
This time, the anger he showed on his face turned into sadness.
“I am here for answers, that’s all. Once you give them to me, I am going back to the pack, to my family and father,” he said while his voice broke.
“Okay, but first let me hold you,” she answered.
“I don’t want that,” he said in a low tone.
“Please,” she whispered.
This time, he kept quiet, his gaze shifted to the side.
When she moved and wrapped her arms around his waist, his eyes instantly filled with tears.
My heart ached at the scene in front of me because finally, I could see that he was hurting as badly as I was.
Just as I wanted nothing to do with our father, that’s how he was acting with our mother.
But if our mother was this happy to see him, then perhaps our father was also happy to see me, but he couldn’t sincerely show it.
“My baby boy has grown so much. Not only into a strong Alpha but into a fine, handsome warrior. I am so happy to finally meet you again, Sky,” she said softly.
I felt speechless and very sad, as well as emotional, when tears ran down his face.
He really was fighting himself over just letting our mother in and standing against her.
Either way, I knew what he was going to choose because I, too, chose to hold our mother’s hand and let her in.
