Jace’s POV
I sat down next to Lillian, facing Sky, who was still looking around with a grin on his face.
“Are you going to look around for hours?” I asked simply.
“You looked around my living room too,” he answered.
“I didn’t look around,” I pointed out.
“Then that’s your problem, not mine,” he replied.
What was he, five? Also, was he picking a fight with me?
“Riff, how have you been?” I asked, ignoring Sky.
“I have been fine, Alpha. Thank you for asking,” he answered and then looked at Lillian.
“I apologize for coming here on short notice, Luna. I just wanted a little help,” he said as Sky looked at him.
“Do you want us to take you to Glen’s house or company?” Lillian asked.
“I want you to show me where my mother stays,” Sky answered.
“Is that all?” I asked.
“No, that’s not all. Besides what the Alpha said, I really want to meet my mate once more,” he replied as I smiled.
Sky looked so shocked while Harley had a puzzled expression on her face.
“What mate are you talking about?” he asked seriously.
Riff frowned and then kept quiet.
“I think he means Glen’s Beta, Sophie,” I answered simply as Edith gasped.
Although Harvey had a calm expression on his face, I could tell how surprised he was as well.
I, too, was surprised back then when they were acting as if they knew each other. Something was going on. I felt it and soon realized it.
“Are you serious?” Sky asked loudly.
“Yes,” he answered in a low tone.
“Why did you not tell me?” Sky asked again, loudly.
“You had your own issues to begin with,” he answered.
“I don’t care about that; I am your best friend. I deserve to know such news before any stranger! No offense, Jace,” he said seriously.
“None taken,” I answered simply.
“I’m sorry, Sky. I seriously didn’t want you to do anything to help me. When I met her, we talked a little, and we both decided that it would be best for us not to associate with each other.” He answered as we all looked at him in disbelief.
How was he so calm, and why would he agree to do that when it was foolish?
“Then why do you want to meet her when you agreed not to associate with each other?” I asked.
“Because I feel a little sad and unhappy. I know this may sound crazy, but when I said that, I wanted to show her that I was okay on my own,” he answered.
“Can you believe how she responded when I greeted her? She said no and raised her damn hand to my face,” he complained.
“I told her I was just greeting her, and her response was simple,” he said and then continued.
“I don’t know whose Beta you are or which pack you belong to. All I know is that I don’t wish to join your pack or stay by your side. I have an Alpha I’m proudly serving, and nothing will take me away from doing that,” he answered as I laughed.
When I saw the anger on Sky’s face, I composed myself.
They were best friends, so I expected them to act alike. Sky would not have allowed her to leave, yet his Beta did. Perhaps they weren’t alike in any way.
“Don’t look at me like that, Sky. What your Beta went through is similar to what someone I know experienced. It’s just sad and unfortunate that she was so cold to him,” I said calmly.
“Well, I wasn’t going to leave my pack or my Alpha’s side; that’s why I agreed to her terms easily,” he answered.
“You are so pathetic,” I said seriously.
“Jace, you are seriously not helping,” Sky warned.
“I don’t care if I am or not, Sky, because him agreeing to her decision is seriously pathetic. Riff, do you know how hard it will be without your mate by your side?” I asked seriously.
“Alpha Jace, what did you expect me to do, drag her?” he asked.
“That seems to be a good idea,” I answered simply.
“Jace,” Lillian called softly.
“Fine, I didn’t mean to force her, but you should have found a way to make her join you and stay with you,” I said seriously.
“Look, Riff, I understand how you feel, and I won’t be upset with you for not telling me sooner. But you should always talk things through with your mate and decide what is best for you. Also, believe me when I say that being away from each other isn’t the best decision,” Sky said and then looked at me.
“Well, you may try to drag her or kidnap her when she resists you entirely,” he said as I smirked.
“What the hell is wrong with you two?” Harvey asked at the top of his voice.
“We are just giving him good advice,” I answered.
“Yes, we are,” Sky backed me up.
“Look, you two, I know that this might be fun for you, but it isn’t for him, so please mind what you say to him,” Edith said.
She was standing next to Harvey, who had his arm around her.
“Fine,” I answered simply.
“So, are you guys spending a night here?” Lillian asked.
“No, we aren’t, but to be honest, I would have loved that. Sadly, I desperately want to see my mother,” Sky responded.
“So, when do you leave?” Edith asked.
“We live in half an hour,” he answered.
“How about you make it an hour? That way, we can all prepare to go with you,” I suggested.
“Okay,” he answered and then looked at the door.
Paul walked hand in hand with Molly. We could all tell that they must have talked things through because they were both smiling and looking at each other as if the whole room was empty.
“Paul, Harvey, and Edith, you will stay with Light to look after the pack while Lillian and I escort Sky and the others to human territory,” I ordered.
“Why can’t I go with you, Alpha? My mate will be going to that side, so I want to be by her side,” Paul complained.
“Paul, Molly is coming with us, and you are to stay here. That’s an order,” I said seriously.
He bowed low and decided to keep quiet.
They must have talked things through, but that didn’t mean he should cling to her. I wanted her to be certain about staying here. But first, she had to sort out all her business in human territory because that’s where she stayed.
