Molly’s POV
“Hey, say something,” Paul said softly.
I was too shocked to say anything and angry as well. I was also a little confused about everything.
“Molly,” he called in a whisper.
When I couldn’t respond, he moved closer and leaned in, kissing my lips lightly, then pulled back with a concerned expression on his face.
Instantly, a low sigh escaped me as I blinked a few times.
“I… um….,” I frowned deeply and then kept quiet.
I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to understand or say at first. Was it the fact that he was in love with another woman whom he was willing to die for?
Was it the fact that he was kissing me and staying by my side, as well as looking at me as if I were his everything because of what we were to each other?
Was I really okay knowing how he was third in command?
Perhaps what was so confusing was how he had a wolf that had a different personality, character, and emotions.
“Please, talk to me,” he said seriously, then grabbed my hands while squeezing them lightly.
“What exactly am I supposed to say to you?” I asked huskily.
“Anything; I promise I’ll listen,” he answered.
“I don’t know what to say,” I said honestly.
“Okay, then how do you feel about me having a wolf who is very different from me?” he asked seriously.
“Confused. I feel so confused about that. He is different from you, so that means he might not like or even look at me in any way,” I answered.
“No, that’s impossible,” he replied.
“You said it yourself: he has different emotions, a personality, and character. What makes you think he can’t feel that way?” I asked as I pulled my hands away.
“Because I feel and know how he feels, and believe me when I say he does want you,” he answered as I shifted my gaze to the other side and kept quiet.
“Will it be okay if you meet him now and hear his own words about how he feels about you?” he asked.
“No, I don’t want to meet him right now,” I answered simply.
“Okay, I understand,” he said in a disappointed tone.
When his hand went to my chin, I willingly turned and faced him.
There was this feeling that made me want him despite how I was feeling. Not only that, the tingles I felt made me feel at ease.
He did explain how the mate pull worked and how mates responded to each other, but then my mind didn’t want to believe it, even when my heart did.
“How do you feel about us being mates?” he asked in a low tone.
“I feel happy, but at the same time guilty,” I answered softly.
“Guilty?” he asked, then dropped his hand.
“Yes, if I had met you first, then I wouldn’t have been feeling guilty,” I answered honestly.
“Oh, it’s because of him, isn’t it? Then how do you feel about Leah and how I committed to her?” He asked.
I moved my hand to the back of my head and pulled my hair tightly for a second to control the anger I felt.
“Jealous, angry, and annoyed,” I answered, then smiled.
“I also feel envy and amazement at how you committed and gave your very being to her. I have a fiance, but he wouldn’t lay it all down for me; that’s why we are not even in the same country,” I said, then laughed in pain.
“He wouldn’t give up his sweet promotion, and he knows nothing about my heart condition. He doesn’t even know what I do for a living; he would be so upset if he learned that I am a cleaner,” I said as I sadly lowered my gaze and then looked at him.
He had an angry expression on his face.
“No, he wasn’t like that in the past, I swear. He was a sweet guy; back then, he had a simple job as a salesman, and he had time for me. I was also working as a secretary, and when he proposed to me, it felt great, but things changed,” I said, and then continued to talk.
“He got promoted, and he was desperate to leave by then, even when I begged him to stay. That was when I found out I had a heart problem. I felt anger towards everyone and everything. I asked him to leave and enjoy his dream job while I pretended to be okay,” I said, and then smiled.
“So I’m at fault, not him. His only fault is how he never wants to see me. Even now, we talk on the phone, but it’s not as it used to be; moreover, I haven’t seen him in years. Whenever I want to visit him, he says he is busy, and I believe him, even when I know it must be a lie,” I said, and then cleared my throat.
“So when you told me what you went through with that woman, I envied and admired how lucky she was,” I said, then got surprised when he pulled me into his embrace.
“You must have endured a lot. Thank you for opening up to me,” he said in a soft voice as my eyes became filled with tears.
I blinked them back and hugged him back.
“Those should be my words,” I answered, then pulled back and looked him in the eyes.
“Do you still love her?” I asked, and he looked surprised for a second.
“Absolutely not. She is someone who was a part of my past, and she will remain in it, while you are my present and, with time, can be my future,” he answered, making me smile shyly.
“So… do you love him?” he asked as my smile faded.
“How can you ask me that after saying all that to me?” I asked simply.
“That’s because I want to hear how you feel,” he answered.
“I… I thought I did, but now I understand that I was clinging to the past and trying to make something that wasn’t meant to be work,” I said honestly.
He smiled widely and then moved his hand to my cheek gently.
“May I take it that you want to stand by my side in the future?” he asked.
I leaned into his touch, pressing my hand against his as I smiled.
“If you continue making me feel this way and treat me better than you did her, then I will willingly submit to you,” I answered softly.
“You will never be treated like anyone else because you are my mate, and my very being was created to worship you, besides serving my Alpha,” he said as I chuckled.
He smiled and then leaned in.
I found myself moving forward and meeting him halfway to feel his lips against mine.
I felt so assured and very happy when our lips met, and a sense of new hope and fulfillment filled my heart.
