Harley’s POV
Oh, so she had no idea he was her mate? Clearly, she didn’t even know there were different types of supernatural beings. That’s why she was crying and screaming in fear, overwhelmed by what was happening.
I, too, was shocked. For a moment, I thought I was hearing things when I first heard Molly’s voice. But then she called out again, and I couldn’t stay put as Sky had asked me to. That’s why I rushed out, desperate to see if it was really her.
When I reached the pack house, I was frozen by the sight of the fight in front of me. Yes, I’d heard growls and snarls, but I never expected this. I didn’t know how to react. That’s when Jade took over, and suddenly, everyone backed down, the fight stopping. Sky’s wolf approached us, towering over me. Fear gripped me, but Jade stood her ground, unfazed. It must have worked because he dashed into the pack house, leaving us behind.
I was even more stunned when Glen shifted into his human form, surrounded by a few guests from the party. I wanted to take control again, but Jade wouldn’t let me. She only relented when Molly fainted. I rushed to her side, screaming her name, even though she was already cradled in a man’s arms.
Glen tried to speak to me, but I couldn’t hear him-my panic was overwhelming, and my breathing became erratic. Only when I felt a familiar touch on my shoulder did I start to calm down. I turned to find Sky standing behind me, fully dressed, looking at me with concern.
“Please help her,” I whispered, tears brimming in my eyes.
“Of course,” he replied, moving to take Molly from the man’s arms, but the man growled in warning.
“I am not letting anyone take my mate away,” he said, fury in his voice, and that’s when it hit me-he was as scared and concerned as I was.
“Well, then take her with you and get the fuck out of my pack,” Sky ordered sharply.
I quickly shook my head and grabbed his hand. “Please,” I whispered.
He sighed heavily, then leaned in to kiss my forehead. “Fine. He can come into the pack house. I’ve already mind-linked Vanessa. She’ll be here any minute to check on Molly,” he answered.
I was about to thank him when he suddenly scooped me up.
“Put her down this instant-she’s going back with me!” Glen shouted, and for the first time, I felt like slapping him or spitting in his face.
“Sky, please ignore him. I’m not going anywhere with him,” I said firmly, burying my face in his chest.
“You heard her. Now fucking leave my pack,” Sky warned, and I felt a wave of relief, knowing he wasn’t going to force me to leave with Glen.
Glen, a man respected and feared by many, always had a way of getting people to do as he said. I was lucky Sky wasn’t one to bow to his demands.
“You better fucking disappear when I get back,” Sky growled, carrying me into the pack house with the man trailing behind.
We made our way to a bedroom, which I quickly opened. Sky gently set me down after the man laid Molly on the bed.
“Are you really Molly’s mate?” I asked softly.
“Yes, I am,” the man replied, and I smiled, relieved.
Molly had never gone on a date, and I’d always thought she might have been afraid of men. Now, seeing she had a mate made me happy-finally, someone would be there for her.
“What’s your name?” I asked.
He glared, avoiding my gaze.
“Gamma, are you disrespecting my Luna? Should I make you submit?” Sky’s voice grew cold, his eyes darkening to a shade of red.
“Sky, don’t be rude to him,” I said gently.
“Fine, but if he crosses you, I’ll kill him,” Sky muttered.
“Paul. My name is Paul,” the man finally said.
“I’m sorry,” I said, feeling a pang of sadness.
“Babe, why are you apologizing to this shit? He should be groveling at your feet!” Sky snapped.
I took his hand and kissed it. “He’s just worried about Molly. Let’s not be hard on him,” I whispered.
“Fine,” he said, smiling at me.
Sky’s mood softened after that, even when Vanessa came and used her healing ability on Molly. After she left, we stayed with Molly, who had finally woken up.
“Molly, you’ll get a chance to talk to Paul, and he’ll explain everything. But first, please tell me… do you have a heart problem?” I asked hesitantly.
“Where is Mr. Brown?” she asked, dodging the question.
“Molly!” I shouted, startling her. “Please, I’m really worried. I need to know the truth.”
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“For what?” I asked.
“For keeping secrets from you. I believe you’ve kept a few from me as well,” she said, glancing at me seriously before looking at Sky.
“You’re right. I haven’t told you everything yet, but I was always going to,” I replied.
“That’s exactly how I felt, Harley. I’m sick, and I didn’t want you to worry. I planned to find a heart donor, have surgery, and tell you afterward when I recovered,” she explained, tears welling up in her eyes.
“What if you’d died?” I asked, my voice cracking.
“I would’ve left you a letter,” she said, tears streaming down her face. Paul immediately wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
“A letter? After everything we’ve been through, am I only worth a letter?” I asked, my vision blurred by tears.
“No, I just didn’t want you to see me suffer,” she cried.
“You don’t get to make that decision. I love you. You’re my best friend, and I want to be there for you, no matter what,” I said, tears flowing down my cheeks.
“I’m sorry, Harley. I didn’t want to burden you,” she sobbed.
I sat on the edge of the bed, holding her hand. “You’ll never be a burden to me. Please, promise me you’ll let me be there for you,” I said softly.
She smiled through her tears. “I promise.”
“Now it makes sense why you always asked me to cover for you,” I said with a small laugh, and she laughed too.
“Rest now. I’ll come back in an hour. Paul will be here if you need anything,” I told her, sensing Paul wanted to stay by her side.
“Thank you. When you come back, I’ll tell you everything,” she promised.
I nodded, got up, and then went to Sky, who gave me a comforting smile and linked his hand to mine.
I looked at Paul and nodded. He surprisingly smiled and then gave us a low bow.
I wiped my tears away and sighed softly.
“Excuse us,” I whispered, and then walked out of the room with Sky.
“Are you okay?” he asked softly.
No, I wasn’t okay. I felt bad, but I wasn’t going to tell him that because I didn’t want him to worry.
“Yes, I am. Also, thank you very much for your help,” I answered.
He stopped in front of me, making me pause. “I’d do anything for you, babe. Just ask,” he said, leaning in to kiss my forehead.
I smiled and wrapped my arms around his waist. He always knew how to make me feel better.
“Thank you,” I whispered as he hugged me back, resting his head against mine.
