Harley’s POV
I couldn’t sleep no matter what.
First of all, I felt very nervous and uncomfortable. Secondly, whoever the man was, he wasn’t like me because his house was not just a house. It looked like a palace, and there were a lot of houses close to it.
Immediately we walked in, the men who were in the passage bowed, shocking me, and two ladies came to my side and asked me to follow them.
I wanted to refuse, but when I looked at Sky, who gave me a warm smile, I found myself agreeing. A warm bath was prepared for me, and surprisingly, the ladies wanted to help me bathe. I had to refuse and ask them to step out, which they did.
The bathroom was like a freaking pool room designed for a queen. It was very big, and it had all the best cosmetics I had seen from my company. There was a huge wardrobe too on the side, a dressing table, a white and golden bathtub, and a huge shower opposite. The room smelled wonderful, and the water filled in the tub had rose petals and bubbles on top.
As I began taking a bath, I felt so relaxed and enjoyed the warm temperature. Immediately after I was done and stepped out, the ladies were standing close to the bed, waiting for me. One had a gorgeous nightgown in her hands, while the other had two bottles.
I wanted to ask them to leave when they quickly moved and grabbed my hands, making me sit on a comfortable chair next to the dressing table.
I watched in silence as they fixed my hair, helped me dress, and applied scented oil to my body.
When they were done, they gave a bow and left. Soon after, they brought in food and faced the other side. I hesitated but decided to eat because I was very hungry, and the food looked delicious and had a nice aroma.
Once I was done eating, they took the plates and left the room, giving me enough time to clean my teeth with a sealed toothbrush I had seen in the bathroom.
I sat on the bed, looking at the door for hours, waiting for someone to walk in, but no one did, and because of that, I couldn’t sleep.
One thing that was surprising was how comfortable and welcoming I was of the situation I was in. If it had been in the past, I could have been afraid to talk to Sky or even go with him to his place. I would have been even more terrified after seeing his palace and how the people acted, yet here I was in a stranger’s room. I even ate the food that could have been poisoned, enjoying each and every bite of it. My sense of awareness was thrown out of the window, and I didn’t know why.
When I heard light footsteps at the door, I quickly lay down and closed my eyes, my heart beating rapidly.
Who was it? Did they come to check up on me or hurt me?
I heard the sound of the door opening and then closing. When the footsteps began to approach me, my heart began to beat even more rapidly.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t expect you to be awake. I just came to check on you and see if you were covered and sleeping peacefully,” Sky said in a soft tone.
I frowned and then sat upright to look at him.
“How did you know I wasn’t asleep?” I asked in a low tone.
“For one, your heart is beating rapidly, and your breathing is a little unstable and loud. It’s as if you are scared,” he answered, then moved closer and sat at the edge of the bed.
I moved back a bit and then looked at the door.
He wasn’t going to do something bad to me, right? No, if he really was, the food would have been drugged, and I would have already passed out by now.
“I’m really sorry if I scared you. I honestly came to check on you, nothing else. If you are uncomfortable with me or anyone else, you can always lock the door or even put a chair against the handle; that way, no one can walk in,” he said seriously.
I smiled and felt calmer by his suggestion.
“I asked you for a phone; I didn’t want you to give me a place to sleep,” I said.
I knew I sounded very ungrateful right now, but I seriously didn’t ask him for a place to sleep.
“I know, and I do apologize for not giving you the phone or for not coming here sooner. You must have been uncomfortable with the ladies who were asked to help you relax and feel at home,” he answered.
“I don’t know if anyone told you this, but you couldn’t have made it back today no matter what. So even if you did end up making a phone call, you would have had no place to sleep or eat; that’s why I invited you here. You can make a phone call while at the same time have a roof over your head; that’s what I wanted,” he said softly.
There was just something about him. Whenever he spoke to me, I felt respected and cared for. Most of all, I couldn’t hear or detect any lies from him.
“You are nothing like him at all,” I whispered honestly.
“You mean the loser who asked you to stay away from him?” he asked.
“Yes,” I answered.
“I don’t know him, but I’m happy that I’m nothing like him,” he said, and then moved his hands and grabbed mine. The tingles that spread throughout my body instantly made me feel like I was engulfed in warmth.
“Well, you sure do share the same face, and both of you are rich,” I said with hesitation.
“I won’t lie; it’s hard to think someone might look identical to me when I’m an only child. But if he really does look like me, is it a good or bad thing?” he asked.
“Honestly, I don’t know,” I answered, and then smiled.
When he let go of my hands, my smile vanished.
I was worried, thinking I had offended him.
“You must be tired,” he said when he stood up.
“No, I’m not,” I answered silently in my mind.
“Get some rest. We will talk tomorrow. Early in the morning, you can make a call, and I’ll talk to one of my men and see if we can arrange a ride for you,” he said softly.
“Okay, thank you so much for everything,” I answered.
He began to walk to the door but stopped. When he turned and looked at me, I grabbed the sheets, moving them to my chest.
He quickly moved to my side and leaned in, kissing my cheek lightly.
“Sleep well,” he whispered, and then stood upright as a shiver spread throughout my body.
I smiled and watched him walk out. Once I couldn’t hear his footsteps, I threw myself back and moved the sheets to my face, covering my mouth with a giggle.
