Glen’s POV
I was panicking, feeling a little scared and very anxious.
Days had gone by, and there was no word from any of my men. How was that even possible? There were cameras almost everywhere, yet there was no recording of her leaving the city!
She couldn’t disappear just like that, no matter how I looked at it, unless she had been helped by someone with power.
Who could have helped her was the tricky question. Only a very few guests knew what she was to me. So if someone did help her, it was definitely Jace.
I came out of my car slowly and looked at him (Jace).
He was standing close to the entrance with his mate and others, looking back at me coldly. I didn’t call him to ask if he had a hand in helping my mate disappear because I wanted to look into his eyes and hear his voice if he were to lie to me.
“Why are you here?” he asked coldly when I approached him.
“Is that how you welcome your only cousin?” I asked simply.
“You have never stepped foot in my pack in your life, and out of nowhere, you show up. How do you think I would welcome you?” he asked rudely.
“Do you have to be this rude?” I asked.
“Yes, because it’s so obvious that something serious or very important must have happened, and you need my help,” he answered.
I looked at Lillian and then the others.
“Are you all going to treat me like this? Have you forgotten how you were at my party a few days ago? I welcomed you wholeheartedly and even introduced you to Ian, whom most packs dream of having an alliance with!” I said at the top of my voice.
“Are you stupid or what?” he asked seriously, with an angry expression on his face.
His expression instantly softened when Lillian linked her hand with his.
“He is still family,” she whispered.
“I agree, Alpha,” Harvey backed her up.
“Fine,” he answered and then looked at Snow.
“Follow me, Alpha Glen, and welcome to the pack,” Snow said and then turned to walk away.
“Thank you,” I whispered and then followed him in, leaving the rest standing outside.
I went with him into the living room, where I took my seat. He gave me a low bow and then walked out.
When Jace walked in with Lillian and Harvey, I stood up.
“Sit,” came Jace’s command.
I gave him a glare but reluctantly sat down.
“What can we do for you?” he asked when he took a seat opposite me, while Lillian and Harvey remained standing.
“Cousin, I came to ask you a very serious personal question, which I hope you won’t take offense to,” I answered honestly.
“Ask,” he said.
“Did you, by any chance, help my mate run away from me?” I asked as his expression turned murderous.
“There is no need to get upset; just tell me if you did or did not help her,” I said seriously.
“I’m sorry to intervene in your conversation, but why would you think Jace would ever help your mate run away?” Lillian asked.
“Because he is the only one who would care about my mate. You see, he is family, and he definitely hated how I treated her at the party. Perhaps he wanted to teach me a lesson. He also has a lot of connections and wealth that would help him cover up a lot of things, be it kidnapping or hiding someone. Plus, he hates me to the bone despite acting tolerant,” I answered honestly.
“Get out,” he whispered and then sat upright.
“Jace, just answer my question,” I said.
“Get out!” he growled furiously as his eyes switched to that of Ridge.
“Just tell me! I am scared of what might happen to her if you aren’t the one who helped her disappear,” I yelled in a cracked voice, then swallowed hard.
“I feel anxious, uneasy, and scared,” I whispered in a low tone.
“Why the hell did you even do that to her? I knew you were messed up and wanted to uphold the family’s name, but did you have to go to such lengths to embarrass her?” he asked when his eyes turned back to their original color.
“I… to be honest, I didn’t know how to react,” I whispered and then sat down.
“You know how I have always wanted what’s best and perfect for my company and reputation. No one was meant to have me if their status was below mine; that’s what I told myself. So imagine how shocked I was when I discovered that my mate was a nobody. Not only was she an orphan whom no one wanted to adopt, but she wasn’t all that beautiful and sexy,” I said, then cleared my throat when I noticed how Lillian had a deadly glare on her face.
“Anyway, I was very disappointed with her, and I wanted nothing to do with her. To be honest, I never thought a mate was that important in life; that’s why I never tried to look for her or showed much interest. But after I met her, my attention was completely drawn to her. Had I known that she was a dragon, I swear I could have treated her right,” I said honestly as Harvey broke down laughing. It was as if he was mocking me.
For a Beta, he really was arrogant. Was it because he had Jace by his side?
“So, in short, you don’t want your mate for who she is but for what she is. You are not concerned and scared for her safety; you are concerned and scared of what you may end up losing if she disappears from your life,” he said, then rested both of his hands on his hips.
“My gosh, and here I was thinking we were the only scum of the earth when there are bastards like him who are messed up,” he said as Dominic growled in warning.
He wasn’t going to let a Beta look down on us in any way.
“Jace, please advise your Beta to act as a Beta should. He may not like me, but I am still an Alpha, and I do deserve all the respect in the world,” I warned.
“All the respect in the world! Are you insane? You made your own mate a laughing stock at the party, and you have the decency to even look for her. Word of advice, respectable Alpha, You don’t deserve her at all, and I wish you would never find her,” he answered as Dominic took over and moved.
Before he could put his claws on his neck, a hand grabbed our wrist and dropped it with force.
“You dare!” he growled, looking at the one who had stood in our way.
We were both shocked to see it was Lillian and not Jace. She was a nobody too, yet she dared to stand in our way. Who the hell did she think she was?
“Fuck off, bitch,” we growled at her in warning and then tensed as she raised her hand. She struck our cheek with the back of her hand, causing us to stumble and fall.”
I took over completely and sat upright. My whole head was aching badly, and I felt dizzy. When I tasted the blood, I quickly moved my hand to my mouth to touch it.
My eyes widened when I looked at the bloody hand. I opened my mouth in shock as blood spilled out.
“Your nose is bleeding as well; you may have to clean it,” Jace said with a smirk on his face.
It was so obvious he was enjoying it with his Beta; he hated me after all.
What I couldn’t understand was why his mate would do that to me.
