Sky’s POV
Seeing our mate laugh and freely enjoy the ride made both me and my wolf very happy. She was perfect and very beautiful, just like we had always imagined.
For years, we waited and longed for her, even though we had it all. A part of us couldn’t be filled, no matter what we did. There was a void that made us feel so lonely and unloved, even when we were surrounded by a loyal family, friends, and pack members.
I convinced myself a few years ago that I was meant to be alone and that my destiny was cursed. Who could have thought that our mate was not of our kind? She was a dragon; I knew it at first glance.
To me, what she was didn’t really matter because she was still perfectly made to be my equal and partner. Even if she were human, I would have gladly welcomed her into my arms.
When my men reported an intruder who was near the pack’s border, I was reluctant to go and see who it was. I asked my Beta to be the one to do that because it was common to hear that a rogue or other supernatural beings had reached the pack’s border.
It usually happened whenever they mistakenly boarded the public bus or car that was meant to drop my pack members in their respective cities and areas.
Ever since I was young, my father, the former Alpha, was unlike any Alpha I had ever heard of. He was my hero who told me tales of how he managed to conquer the whole country, which is now our home, and drove out the humans.
As hard as it was to believe, the whole country was owned by our kind, and it was shocking and amazing of him to create such a peaceful surrounding when he wasn’t even an Alpha king.
Usually, the Alpha king and queen were the ones who ran a country or a few countries, but he was just an Alpha, yet he achieved so much.
Because of something that happened in the past, which he refused to tell me, he asked a friend who was an ancient witch to seal off our country from the others.
When she sealed off our country, she excluded us from other territories and countries. For years, we stayed secluded from other Alphas until the spell began to wear off, and a few supernatural beings started to appear in our country or close to our pack’s border.
Most of the time, my Beta made sure they left without a word, but at times he got rid of them if they refused to leave quietly. Our quiet, peaceful country was now becoming known to other supernatural beings, and I was okay with that because all my life I had been trained on how to handle such situations and how to act in different moments.
Zally, who was an elderly Delta, was in charge of driving our public cars, buses, and, at times, the private ones. However, because of old age, he began forgetting faces, and over time, he started allowing a few humans and, at times, supernatural beings to board the bus or car that brought them to my country and pack.
My Beta, at one point, even suggested stopping our pack members from leaving the country, but I rejected his suggestion because it was selfish.
The fact that our pack was secluded meant that some members had no luck in finding their other half, just like me. Allowing them to visit other territories and countries for a few days was the best I could do for them.
It actually wasn’t such a bad idea because some ended up finding their mates. So, I gave them a rule that allowed them to go if they could blend in well with the others in their own country. As long as they weren’t staying for more than a week, they had my blessings.
When I asked my Beta to handle the invader and he agreed, I knew he was going to go there with a few of our best warriors to observe her before approaching.
But then he mind-linked me and told me that it was a she, who was a strong supernatural being. I felt a sudden urge to see her that I couldn’t even shower or dress properly. I asked them to stand down and stay hidden; that way, I could be the one to approach her first, and that’s what they did.
I rode to town, and when I parked my motorcycle and saw her standing opposite a few weak pack members who seemed to be harassing her, I knew then and there that she was my mate.
I felt very nervous, and my wolf was yelping in joy.
I slowly approached her and stood behind her, looking at the two freaks who were bothering her. They couldn’t even tell what she was because they were very weak.
They quickly apologized and left when they realized how pissed off I was.
When she turned and bumped into me, the first thing I felt was tingles that felt like pure magic. I wanted to wrap my arms around her and never let go.
I expected her to know what I was to her because even dragons had their own bonds, but she had no idea, even after looking at me carefully.
Something was definitely wrong with her, or she didn’t want me. I told myself that when she couldn’t react the way I thought she would. But then she spoke of how I looked like someone she knew.
I hated it when she said all those words and made it obvious how that fucker was harsh with her. I had no idea if he was a lover or a friend; all I knew was that I was jealous because her facial expressions betrayed her completely, and I could tell that she had feelings for him. I was also displeased that the guy looked similar to me, but at the same time, I was relieved because I could use it to my advantage and woo her to my heart’s content.
Her going with me to the pack wasn’t something I thought she would agree to do, despite me asking her to. I thought she would refuse and demand to go back. I was even ready to go with her whenever she wanted to leave because there was no way I was letting her leave me. No, I wasn’t going to abandon my pack because it was my home and the members were my people. What I was going to do was escort her back to her country and have her say goodbye to her family.
Then I was going to come back with her to the pack and move forward from there. It was a cheesy thought, but I was okay with it.
I smiled when the pack house came into view. Deep down, I was hoping she would love the place and come to like the pack members as her own kind.
I parked the motorcycle immediately when I was close to the entrance and stepped down.
When I extended my hand to her, she hesitated but then took it with a smile and got off.
“Son,” my father called through our mind-link.
