Edith’s POV
“This is nice,” Lillian whispered, then took a sip from her juice glass.
“Right,” I answered in a low tone.
While she looked so happy and was glowing, I felt the very opposite.
“What’s wrong?” she asked and then shifted on the couch, which was opposite mine.
I quickly looked around the living room and then at the door to make sure no one was around or close by.
“A lot of things are,” I answered.
“Like what?” she asked seriously.
“Like the fact that it’s taking a lot of time for my mate to bed me. With my first mate, it never took this long. Also, he has been so busy these few days that we rarely see each other. Is Jace not giving you his time too?” I asked.
“Well, to be honest, it’s actually the very opposite. He has been so clingy and can’t seem to let me out of his sight for a long time. He also usually doesn’t let me sleep in peace at night because we mostly end up doing it,” she answered.
She was so lucky that I felt envious.
“I see,” I whispered softly.
“But just so you know, the party is tomorrow, and it seems like a few warriors, together with Jace and the rest, are preparing for it. They are practically very busy,” she said as I laughed softly.
“While others are preparing for tomorrow, here we are, having a casual talk and relaxing when we have nothing prepared,” I said as she laughed too.
“I have never been one to go out and enjoy parties. Actually, the last memory I have of a party isn’t so pleasant because it was the day I died,” she said, then took another sip from her glass.
“I attended a lot of parties in the past, but then they got so boring over time that I began avoiding them. It has been so long since I went to one, and I would have loved to keep it that way if Talic hadn’t asked me to go with him,” I said.
“To be honest, Jace looks so handsome and sexy whenever he dresses up for the party. I am dying to see what he will wear tomorrow too. As for me, I’ll just use one of my old gowns, So it won’t take a lot of time,” she said as I smiled.
“What’s the actual reason that you are going that way?” I asked simply.
“To act as a shield around Jace. Do you know how many she-wolves wanted to throw themselves at him? If not for Leah, they would have done anything and everything at the party to get him drunk and in bed. Now that he is my mate and Alpha, I have this sense of protection towards him, and that includes getting rid of any female who would try to cross our personal line. He is mine, and I’ll make sure that statement stands,” she answered seriously.
“But you have already marked him,” I pointed out.
“I know, but that doesn’t stand in the way of those shameless females. Marked or not, they would definitely approach him and try their best to get into his pants. The fact that you are not worrying about Harvey comes as a shock because he too was usually targeted by she-wolves,” she said as my smile faded.
“You know what? I was thinking about how we didn’t have much time to prepare for the party, but now I realize how wrong I was. Leave it to me, okay? Tomorrow, you will find a befitting gown that will take our Alpha’s breath away. I am going to protect what’s mine too,” I said as she smiled widely.
“Are you going shopping?” she asked excitedly.
“No way! Not to brag, but my magic is phenomenal. I will make us amazing dresses for tomorrow, so don’t worry,” I answered.
“Then I look forward to that,” she replied and then stood up.
“I’m so sorry to leave while we were happily chatting, but Jace mind-linked me. It seems there is something he wants to urgently discuss with me,” she said as I nodded.
“Go on, I’ll be fine. I’ll take this time to think of a nice style of dresses I’ll go for,” I replied.
“Thanks,” she said, then grabbed the juice glass and walked out of the living room.
I relaxed and then closed my eyes, thinking about which design I should pick. When I felt cold hands on my shoulders, I opened my eyes and was about to turn when Harvey spoke.
“Relax, it’s me,”
I instantly did and closed my eyes when he began to massage them.
It felt so good, not only because of the tension that was being released but also because of the tingles I was experiencing.
“Are you nervous about tomorrow?” he asked softly.
“Not really. Once upon a time, I had fun going to parties until they became a bore,” I answered honestly.
“Did you prepare what to wear?” he asked as I smiled.
“Do you want to take me shopping?” I asked back seriously.
“No, I already called one of my store managers, and they have brought all the dresses that are trendy and in fashion. All you have to do is choose from those,” he answered as I opened my eyes in shock.
“Your store managers?” I asked, then turned and knelt on the couch facing him.
“Your stores?” I asked.
“Yes,” he answered simply.
“One of your stores, not the pack’s stores?” I asked seriously.
“Not the pack’s, my stores,” he answered, then smirked.
“Did you think I was just a Beta?” he asked as I quickly nodded.
“Wow, you are so funny, Edith. Besides our statues, we have our own line of work. Jace has a big business company that he manages from home. I have a few stores that I bought and invested in. Paul has a golf club that he visits whenever he wants to flex and relax, and Light runs a few cinemas because of his interest in movies. We usually don’t talk about them, and only a few people of our kind know about them because we see no reason to tell anyone what we do. We have trusted humans who manage them, and we visit from time to time because we are usually busy with our duties,” he said as I looked at him without a word.
“That bastard Glenn invited our Alpha because of his influence, but he knew he would bring us along. If he introduces us as owners of our business, many will applaud him for being involved with us. So yep, he is clearly using us to his full advantage,” he said as I moved my hands and grabbed his.
“I guess I should go as a worthy partner,” I whispered as he frowned.
“What do you mean by that?” he asked as I smiled and just shook my head.
I would be a fool if I stayed all those years and ended up poor. I, too, had a name worthy of being of use on that side. I was so looking forward to the party.
“Let’s go and have a look at the dresses. I will make a few adjustments to the one I pick with my magic. After all, I was already planning on making one myself,” I said, then stood up and went around to link my hand to his, avoiding his question.
