Snow’s POV
Was I making a dumb decision going back to my pack when I was given the money to sustain me for a month and get me a decent job in human territory?
I was back in the forest after taking two taxis and tipping the men for their services. I didn’t want to shift because the coat was the only thing I had on me that could hold the band of money I was given. But then it was getting hard to travel on foot.
A few days had gone by, and I was avoiding rogues, other supernatural beings, and territories occupied by other Alphas.
“Shit,” I whispered to myself because I was very close to another Alpha’s territory.
It only made me feel uneasy because if they saw me, they would kill me on the spot if not torturing me.
“What will I say to Jace to have his forgiveness?” I asked myself silently.
Going back was only going to make me a prisoner because he couldn’t bring himself to kill me, that I knew.
“Paul, should we just take our own life?” I asked softly, even when I knew he couldn’t hear a thing because he was still sleeping in our subconscious.
“We can’t stay in human territory because a part of me can’t accept being useless forever. I also can’t join another pack because I vowed to only serve one Alpha. If I go back now, I may receive harsher punishment, but then again, I would be happy to be by our Alpha’s side, even if it’s in prison. It doesn’t make sense, does it?” I asked sadly, then quickly stopped moving when I heard light footsteps and two male voices.
“You are lying, right?” A lighter voice asked.
“I am not lying. The Alpha told us to act blind and deaf to seeing her, his true mate,” a deeper voice answered.
“No way, but he’s already married with pups. Who would have thought his mate was from another territory? And where the hell was she all these years?”The lighter voice asked,
“I too am shocked. You should have seen how this female had bruises on her skin. She was crying, saying how her previous Alpha had hurt her and locked her up for crossing the border. If not for her friend, what was her name… Paulina, who helped her to escape, she would have died,” the deeper voice answered as I stood there speechless.
“If not for being a Delta, she would have died,” the deeper voice said.
I was in shock over what I was hearing.
“Don’t tell anyone about this, but I think the Alpha is planning to attack that pack for her. Not only is he furious, but he has also been gathering top warriors to discuss war strategies,” the deeper voice said as I held my breath for a second.
Now everything was making sense. Finally, I understood what she was planning.
I wondered how she was so set on escaping when she had nowhere to go. Paul was so convinced that she just wanted to live that I, too, was blinded by that belief.
Who could have guessed she had a mate who was an Alpha!
So when she crossed the border that time, she must have met and talked to him. And when she escaped, she went to his pack. That’s why she had no use for us and didn’t want our help or care.
She knew her mate, the Alpha, held more value and that he would do whatever she said since they were mates!
But then again, what could be the reason for wanting to attack our pack, which her presence struggled to empower? Was it because Jace now had a mate he was committed to? Was that reason enough to sacrifice everyone?
No, only a very obsessed, confused being could reach such a conclusion and extent. But if that was the case, then Jace needed to be warned as soon as possible!
There was a possibility it was some other she-wolf they were talking about, but then my instincts were set on them talking about Leah. One of them even narrated a story that was very similar to hers and mentioned my human’s name in a rather weird way.
There was no time for standing around when I could do something about it. It wasn’t the quick redemption I wanted. What I needed was to inform our Alpha so he could be ready to protect the pack and everyone in it because they all were innocent.
I shifted and bit into the coat, then dashed back to our pack at full speed. I cared less about who I could encounter because I was ready to fight my way through until I reached our pack.
I kept on running, refusing to stop and sleep, eat, or drink water until the pack’s border came into view.
I slowed down my pace and crossed it, then shifted back into human form, putting on the dirty, dusty coat.
As I slowly walked ahead, I could see a few warriors growling in their wolf form.
I stood further away and waited for a few minutes. When two cars came driving towards me, I bowed low to my waist to show respect before he could even park his car or step out.
“You fucking bastard, why are you here?” Harvey asked at the top of his voice.
I heard the door open and shut, but I couldn’t look up.
“Snow? Not Paul. Mmmm, that explains why he is back,” Las said mockingly.
When the aura around me became deadly, I began struggling to breathe well. I knew that the Alpha was approaching me in a rather pissed-off state.
“You have a minute to explain why you are back,” he said when he stood in front of me.
“I came because I had something important to let you know,” I answered.
“30 seconds left,” he said coldly.
“Leah is planning on attacking this pack using her Alpha mate,” I said as the growls stopped, and everyone became silent.
I frowned deeply and then looked up, only to see how they were looking at me with shocked expressions.
“What?” Alpha Ridge asked.
“I am telling you the truth. Leah has an Alpha mate who will soon attack our pack as revenge for you choosing our now Luna over her. Alpha, I know I seem desperate because I am, but I can never bluff over such things. If there is a chance that it might happen, then you need to hear me out before we all end up regretting,” I answered loudly as Harvey looked at Las.
“Alpha, Snow may do a lot of shit for his human. But lying to this extent isn’t one of them,” Harvey whispered as I gave him an appreciative look.
“Fine, we will hear you out and do something about it. But then after that, you will still get the hell out of my pack,” he answered as I smiled.
That was more time than I needed to prove how sorry I was to him and the others.
“I understand,” I answered in a respectful tone and then lowered my gaze again.
