Edith’s POV
I sat grumpily in an office full of men yet again. Why was I the only one being called among all the women?
“You look angry,” Harvey whispered softly as I shook my head and smiled at him.
Of course, I was upset! Like how was it even possible that after our heart-to-heart talk we didn’t see each other much?
I get that he was busy with the pack. From handling the warriors to looking at the files on behalf of the Alpha. But why was he acting as if Jace was already dead!
I understood that the Alpha preferred to spend more time with his mate than look at the pack files or train the warriors. I also got that his right hand was there for a reason, but then why the hell was Las useless? He rarely talked or did things!
My so-called supposed blossoming love life was now dead. By now, we were supposed to be touching each other more and having sex!
“No, don’t think like that,” I whispered silently to myself.
Things were going slow and smooth between us; I was supposed to be happy like most women would. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. I couldn’t help but feel lonely.
What were my thoughts on returning back to my cottage?
I wasn’t going to return without him by my side. As it was, I really liked it whenever I spent time with him.
When the door opened, Lillian walked in with a cold expression on her face.
I felt relieved that she was going to be a part of whatever was going to be discussed, at the same time uncomfortable because she looked unhappy.
She moved to where Ridge was sitting and stood next to him.
He looked at her seriously and then smiled and extended his hand to her. She hesitated but then took it and moved, sitting on his lap, surprising me.
“Are you upset?” he asked when he wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his head against her back.
“Where is he?” she asked coldly, ignoring his question, as I looked at Harvey, hoping he would tell me who she was talking about.
I knew it was important when the Alpha asked me to join him and the others in his office, but that didn’t mean I knew what it was all about.
“I asked him to clean himself and take a shower because he looked a mess,” he answered.
I was about to ask them who they were talking about when a knock came through.
“Come in,” he answered loudly.
The door opened, and Snow walked in.
I was so shocked to see him back and in one piece.
After his betrayal, everyone in the pack looked rather upset, while some were sad and low-spirited. I knew Harvey felt the same way, that’s why I tried to cheer him on. But then he would ask me not to disturb him because he was busy. I didn’t know if that was his way of taking out his sadness or if he was actually busy.
“I am ready to narrate the whole story to our Alpha,” he said after a bow.
“Go on,” Ridge answered.
I attentively listened to him explain how he came across two warriors and what they were talking about. After he finished his story, we were all quiet, thinking hard.
Firstly, his words held no lies, and those warriors were definitely talking about Leah. If their Alpha was going to attack this pack, then we needed a plan to protect everyone.
“Edith, how strong are you? Can you kill or wipe out a pack?” Ridge asked as I smiled widely.
Oh wow, so he was planning on killing them all just like that. Did he not think about the innocent pups who could suffer badly?
“I can, with the right time and preparation. Some spells take too much energy, and using them once could knock me out. To be stable while using them, I would need preparation, a few items, and a lot of time. By a lot of time, I mean months,” I answered.
“Damn it,” he whispered.
“But if it helps you relax, I can create an impenetrable barrier and shield. Big enough for the whole pack house and a few houses close to it,” I said as Harvey raised a brow.
“Awesome, now that’s my mate!” He exclaimed, making me blush.
“Can you really do that? Won’t that harm you?” Ridge asked in concern.
“I will be just fine because I have done it in my territory before,” I answered proudly.
“I say we take them head-on because those warriors who were talking couldn’t sense me at all when I could. That means they are weak, weaker than ours. Because our warriors can sense a presence when one is near,” Snow said.
“Just because their two warriors are weak, it doesn’t mean the whole pack is,” Harvey pointed out.
“True, if only there was a way of finding out how strong the pack is or the name of the Alpha. Perhaps we have heard him before,” Light answered.
“Name or no name, if Snow can tell me exactly where his territory is, I might know,” Ridge said.
“I am sorry, Alpha, I am not smart enough to act like a guide on campus. But that doesn’t mean I can’t take you there,” he answered.
Lillian stood up and looked at all of us seriously.
“How about we pay them a visit?” she asked as I widened my eyes in disbelief.
“Let me get this straight, Luna. Are you saying we should walk into our enemy’s territory and pay them a visit?” Light asked loudly.
“Well, of course. Does it sound okay to you, for someone who has a wife and pups to choose war just because of a mate pull? Even if I was married to another, please don’t be upset. Ridge, it’s just an example. If I was married and then ended up finding my mate, I could never choose war over my own pack and pups. Yes, I would be upset over the fake story of him being hurt by the Alpha, but not to the point of attacking a strong pack,” she answered as we all looked at each other.
She really had a point; something wasn’t adding up. If the Alpha wanted to attack us, then there was supposed to be a very solid reason for him to, unless he was insane.
“Fine, you have made a point, so please tell us what you mean by visit,” Harvey said.
“If he really is reasonable, we can talk him out of it. But if he is a lunatic or stupid enough to take her side without reason, then our visit will still be beneficial because we will get to see what his pack is capable of,” she answered.
“Luna, aren’t you forgetting the part where we are screwed if we face the whole pack? Or are you planning to take our warriors on that side too?” Light asked.
“No, I think I get what she’s saying. Edith, you said your shield and barrier are impenetrable and large enough to cover a certain group of individuals, right?” Ridge asked.
“Yes,” I answered.
“Then that’s all we need. Harvey, Edith, Lillian, and Snow, you will be going with me. Light, you will remain in charge of the pack and be alert with the warriors,” he said.
“What, no way!” Light answered at the top of his voice as he stood up from the couch.
“I am not asking for your opinion, Light. I am ordering you and Las to see my command through,” he growled.
“Yes, Alpha,” Light answered and then lowered his gaze.
“So when do we leave?” Harvey asked seriously.
“We leave tomorrow by car. We are going to cross his border to provoke him enough to bring out his warriors,” Ridge answered.
I was very happy about how much they had faith in me. They had never witnessed my barrier yet they were willing to trust me.
