Lillian’s POV
I quickly grabbed the bottles I needed and then rushed back to his room.
When I entered, I found him looking out the window with his back towards me.
I felt horrible just looking at him; sadly, I couldn’t say it. I felt sad whenever he was sad, even without having his mark. That’s why I was doing my best to cheer him up.
I moved to the bedside table and put the bottles there, then went to him and wrapped my arms around his waist while resting my head against his back.
I wanted him to feel my warmth and the beautiful tingles that spread between us whenever we touched because I knew how they did wonders. Not only did they give me comfort whenever I felt low, they made me at ease. There was this unexplainable peace about them.
“I like this kind of comfort better than the liquor he asked you to bring,” he spoke.
“Ridge,” I called and then raised my head.
“Yes, it’s me,” he answered softly and then turned and faced me.
“Jace?” I asked, concerned.
Was he hurting so much that he couldn’t stand even being with me, his mate?
“I was the one who forcefully took over, not that he wanted to be away from you,” he answered as I sighed in relief.
“I’m sorry for what the two of you had to go through. To be honest, I wanted Maila to kill him back then, but now I realize how hard it would have been for Jace, maybe even for you,” I said honestly.
“We are grateful to have you as our mate. Not only are you thoughtful towards us, you are caring and very loving,” he responded and then leaned in and kissed my forehead as I closed my eyes and smiled.
“Now then, I hope you will excuse me, I have a call to make,” he said and then went to his desk as my smile faded.
“Is he asking us to leave?” I asked Maila.
“No,” came her response.
Why was she so certain when he said to excuse him?
“Please do sit on the bed, the call won’t take long,” he said when he grabbed the phone and dialed a number.
I smiled happily and then moved to the bed and sat down facing him. Unlike Jace, he really looked unbothered.
“Glen, it’s Ridge. Let me speak to Dominic,” he said and then kept quiet for a few seconds.
“Dominic, I’m glad your human gave in without much resistance. Yeah, right now I’m in a foul mood and it would have ended badly if he had said shitty things to me. Of course, I would have come over to that side,” he said, then glanced at me with a warm smile.
“Jace banished his Gamma, so as we speak, he must be on his way to human territory. I am not thinking, I am certain he will come to that side because he has nowhere else to go and no one to take him in besides your foolish human. I called to give you a fair warning. Dare to give him shelter and food, you will be the one to handle my wrath,” he said seriously and coldly as I shivered.
He had an angry, murderous gaze on his face.
He looked very hot and scary at the same time.
“Oh no, it’s not a threat, it’s a fact. Your stupid human loves playing the generous card towards some humans and those of his kind, just to have his name make it in newspapers and magazines. He has a lot of wealth and fame, yet he yearns for more. That’s why I’m so sure he will try to do something foolish and help the bastard who has betrayed us,” he said and then growled low as I swallowed hard.
I was beginning to think of how he could react if I were to press my hand on his chest and then slide it down to his…
No! Why was I even thinking like that?
“I will kill the both of you if you do something to piss me off, and that will only make our kind laugh at you for dying a useless death despite you being an Alpha. Have you forgotten? I have a pack, wealth that your human can’t compare to, years of training, and connections. What do you have? Nothing that can make me raise a brow. So tread lightly and walk carefully on the thin rope you are on,” he said strongly, then put the phone down and smiled widely.
He sure was threatening him. But then again, his words were true. Jace was not only known for his strength as an Alpha; he was known for his wealth and the connection our pack had to other territories.
“Did I surprise you?” He asked as I stood up with a smile.
“A little, I was surprised you knew an Alpha in human territory,” I answered honestly.
“Oh, him? I am sorry that neither I nor Jace spoke about it. We do have a cousin in human territory who is an Alpha. We aren’t that close because our parents rarely spoke or saw eye to eye. The only time my cousin and I met was whenever we were invited to an event. Jace and him only saw each other three times; the first time was when our parents were alive. The second time was when our aunt threw a big event to celebrate my cousin’s awakening, and the last one was when she handed her wealth over to him,” he said as I moved closer.
The story was interesting.
“So they don’t have a pack?” I asked curiously.
“Not that I know of. Before our parents died, they used to tell us about how they had a pack. But then something bad happened, and our aunt found herself in human territory. By then, she was pregnant. She worked hard and, with the help of my parents, achieved a lot of success,” he answered.
“I see,” I whispered softly.
“Truth be told, I detected lies in their story but chose not to say a word,” he said seriously.
“You did well,” I answered simply.
“Glen the human is… what do you she-wolves call trash that sleeps around with different women? Cassanova?” he asked.
“Nope, Cassanovas date different women, but they don’t always take them to bed. He’s more of a fuck boy,” I answered, then quickly covered my mouth with my hand when I realized what I had said openly.
He was still my cousin even though I was disrespecting him this much.
He laughed softly and then grabbed my hand from my mouth, moving it to his lips and planting a kiss there.
“He sure is a fuckboy, as well as a prideful bastard. I can’t stand him because of that, while Jace can. The only one I can stand is his wolf, and funny enough, we have only met once when Jace got upset that one time,” he said with a smirk.
“Did they fight?” I asked, noticing how evil his smirk looked.
“Hell yeah. That was the only time Jace couldn’t stand his rant, and they fought. When I took over, I enjoyed kicking his ass, and when Dominic, his wolf, took over, it got even better because I aimed to make him submit, and he did,” he answered, then grabbed my waist and lifted me up as I giggled happily.
I was very happy to see him like this.
“Can we take a night walk?” I asked softly.
He put me down and then moved his hand to my cheek.
“Of course, after that let’s have a meal and share a bed,” he answered.
“Okay,” I said, and then tip-toed and kissed his cheek with a smile.
