Edith’s POV
“Edith, stop!” A loud growl snapped me out of my trance.
I looked at the floor and noticed Harvey, who had passed out there, then gasped loudly as I raised my gaze to look at Jace, who was standing protectively in front of him.
“I… Alpha… I…,”
“Save it,” he said furiously, cutting me off, and then turned and went down on one knee, placing his hand on Harvey’s neck.
I quickly moved too and knelt down next to him in fear and with a rapidly beating heart.
“He’s alive, luckily,” he whispered as I sighed in relief.
I was about to press my hand on Harvey’s chest when he lightly hit it.
“Don’t. You have done enough as it is,” he warned coldly.
“I’m so sorry, Alpha. I lost control for a second and got into a trance where I couldn’t pull out easily,” I answered sadly.
“Did you seriously not hear his pained whimpers?” He asked as I shook my head.
“I swear on any god I didn’t. I didn’t even want to hurt him intentionally. I just lost it when he said something insensitive about my past,” I answered seriously.
He grabbed him carefully and raised him like a princess in his arms, moving him onto the bed.
He really was an Alpha, strong enough to lift Harvey who was close to his built and height like it was nothing.
“I believe you, Edith, but had I not come in when I heard him, would you have killed him?” He asked seriously.
I looked at Harvey sadly then at him.
“To be honest, I really don’t know. All I can say right now is that I’m glad you came in and stopped me in time,” I answered honestly.
“What kind of spell were you using on him to make him pass out?” He asked.
“It was a dark spell that would cause him a lot of pain, enough to either make him regret his words or faint,” I answered and then got on the bed slowly and sat down next to Harvey, looking at him with sadness.
“I know you are a very powerful witch and that you don’t look at him like that or feel anything special for him, but that shouldn’t make you hurt him like this. I’m sure whatever he said was out of anger; he didn’t mean it,” he said.
“How do you know?” I asked.
“Because I grew up with him. Yes, I acknowledge how much of a jerk he is and an asshole; actually, we both are, but he’s not like me. He looked forward to having a mate and usually spoke about how they would spend time together. Whenever he spoke about you, I felt angry because I wasn’t like him. I pretended to want nothing to do with my mate when deep down I was dying to embrace and mark her. While I spoke fucked up shit about her, Harvey spoke positively about you,” he answered.
“I like Talic,” I whispered.
“He is a part of Harvey too. You can’t love or like Talic then hate his human side!” he exclaimed.
“Why not?” I asked loudly.
“Because they are one. They might be different individuals in how they think, but they are one by heart,” he answered.
“What will happen to you if Lillian chooses your wolf and not you, Alpha?” I asked, and that seemed to catch him off guard.
He kept quiet for a few seconds and then smiled sadly.
“I would work hard and prove to her every day that I too deserve her love,” he answered.
His answer was an earnest one and it made me realize how unfair I was about to be to Harvey.
“A while ago when I wanted to touch him, it was because I wanted to hurt him in any way. I just wanted to ease his pain if he was in any,” I said seriously.
“I understand. Then I’ll leave the two of you alone,” he answered and then turned.
“She hates you, doesn’t she?” I asked before he could move.
“A lot,” he answered softly.
“Give her time. Right now she’s angry, confused, hurt, and sad. If you keep your distance while still giving her the needed love and support, she will let go of the past and be with you,” I said calmly.
“I can only pray to the moon goddess for such a miracle to happen in my life. Right now, seeing her happy is worth more than anything,” he answered and then walked out.
I moved my hand and placed it on Harvey’s chest, slightly moving it back and forth, trying to ease his pain.
In the past, whenever my mate was injured, in pain, or healing, he needed me to be next to him for comfort. The tingles did wonders for him, that’s what he said, and later on, he would quickly recover.
“Hey, I’m sorry for losing my cool earlier,” I apologized and then gasped when he grabbed my hand and pulled me down, wrapping his arms around me.
“I know that you are Edith, it wasn’t your fault but Harvey’s. Although he was in the dark when I met you, I still informed him about who you are to us. The least he could have done was show you respect,” he responded as I quickly sat upright and looked at Talic with a warm smile.
“Finally you have shown yourself,” I whispered happily.
He sat upright and then moved his hand, brushing my hair back gently.
“Of course, did you miss me?” He asked seriously.
I moved, getting on his lap and wrapping my arms around his shoulders while he wrapped his around my waist.
“I truly missed you,” I answered honestly.
He pulled back and moved both of his hands to my cheeks.
“Forgive me, I was attending to a few things,” he said, then frowned.
“To be honest, I couldn’t bring myself to see you earlier because I was scared,”he said as his frown deepened.
“Why?” I asked softly.
“You already told me how you wanted nothing to do with me and that you were going to leave me, yet my selfishness and need to completely possess you was growing stronger by the day. I even began thinking of marking you with or without your consent. I know it’s very wrong of me, but I just couldn’t help myself,” he answered.
I smiled and then leaned in and kissed his lips lightly.
He really was an honest mate. Him wanting me that much only made me feel very special and loved, that I wanted him to be more selfish of me.
When I pulled back, he kissed my forehead and then dropped his hands.
“I’m dying to beg you to stay, but I won’t do it. I want you to do what’s best for you even if it’s going to break me,” he said softly, then threw himself backwards on the bed.
I moved forward and lay on top of him with a smile.
“Hold me, it’s chilly,” I whispered.
“I’ll warm you up in no time,” he whispered and then wrapped his arms around me.
I was beginning to be selfish too because I now wanted to stay a little longer with him.
