Edith’s POV
The past few weeks had gone by, and Talic was nowhere to be seen. I understood that he was very busy with the pack, but wasn’t it normal to want to spend the last few days with me, his mate?
I walked to the window and opened it, looking down at the pack members who were going back and forth. Some were chatting, while others were playfully having fun.
I was about to step back from the window when a group of warriors caught my attention. They were standing in front of Talic as they spoke to him seriously. His back was towards me, yet he still looked very good.
I leaned against the window with a smile, admiring his height and build. He was just so damn sexy without even trying hard.
“My mate is one sexy bastard,” I said to myself playfully, then chuckled softly.
When the warriors stopped talking and looked at me, my heart picked up. In just a second, Talic turned to look at me with a raised brow.
I quickly turned back to avoid his gaze and knelt down with labored breath.
“Oh my gosh, that was close. Did he see me?” I asked myself silently while slightly panicking.
Of course, he did! He was a freaking werewolf.
The question I had to seriously ask myself was if he had heard me.
If he did, it was going to be so embarrassing.
I felt my stomach drop when a knock came through the door.
Without a second thought, I chanted a silent spell that made me change into my childlike form. Then I got to my feet and went to open the door.
“Hey….,” my mate greeted me with a puzzled expression on his face when he looked at me.
Something about him felt off. Now that I was looking at him closely, he wasn’t Talic.
“Hi, mister,” I greeted back with a simple smile.
He looked around the room with a deep frown, then back at me.
“Um…” He began to speak as he moved his hand to touch my head.
When I felt the tingles spread throughout my body, I knew that he had felt them too and had touched me deliberately to make sure it really was me, not just an illusion in his mind.
“Can we talk, Miss Witch?” He asked and then smiled as I rolled my eyes.
I wanted nothing to do with him because he wasn’t Talic. From the eye color, I could tell that he was Harvey, who I disliked.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t want to talk to you,” I answered, then giggled.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, step aside,” he said lazily as he gently pushed me aside and then walked in.
“How rude,” I whispered and then shut the door and turned to face him.
“That’s not what you said when you were looking at me from your window,” he answered, then went to take a seat on the bed.
I felt embarrassed just remembering my own words from then.
“Well, it was a mistake,” I lied as he seriously looked at me from head to toe.
“A mistake?” He asked.
“Well, not really, but I wasn’t telling you,” I answered quickly.
“So you were telling another male?” He asked coldly.
I wanted to say, “Yes, what’s wrong with that?” but chose to keep quiet in order not to anger him.
“I’m kidding, I know that you were referring to me because you said my mate and I’m the only one that’s yours,” he said as I felt my heart flutter.
Him and Talic were both very good with their words; they made me react in a way I didn’t want to.
“Can you please turn into your true form? I’m dying to meet you,” he said softly as I felt my cheeks heat up.
“Please,” he whispered.
I chanted the silent spell as I reverted to my adult self.
He quickly got to his feet with a smile.
“Perfect,” he said in a low tone as he approached me.
My heart was beating so loudly that I was hoping he wasn’t going to notice it.
When he stood in front of me, I was about to shift my gaze but stopped when he moved his hand to my cheek and smiled widely.
“This is truly an honor to finally meet you, my mate, my very own beautiful destiny,” he said softly as I leaned into his touch.
“Now, what was that you said at the window?” He asked.
I quickly tried to take a step back when his arm went around my waist.
“No, you shouldn’t try to avoid me like this,” he said as I froze in one spot, gazing into his eyes.
“Now tell me,” he demanded.
I swallowed hard as I kept gazing at him speechlessly.
“Am I not your one sexy bastard anymore?” He asked as I held my breath and then smirked.
He was teasing me and loving every second of it!
“That’s enough,” I said in a breathless tone, then pressed my hand on his chest to push him away.
“I apologize, I just felt very nervous from the second I knocked on your door,” he answered, surprising me.
Where the hell was the bastard I heard from the story Talic told me? The one who abused Lillian and did all types of crazy things?
The mate in front of me acted nothing like that. He was actually sweet and quite charming. Was he pretending to have me stay or doing it for some unknown reason?
“My name is Edith,” I said out of the blue.
“I am Harvey and I’m assuming you are already acquainted with my wolf Talic,” he said as I nodded.
“Yes, and he was who I was looking forward to seeing,” I answered honestly.
He looked sad for a second but then smiled.
“Why him and not me?” He asked.
“Because no one in their right mind would want to be with you,” I answered seriously.
He dropped his hands and took a step back.
“What are you saying?” He asked seriously.
“I heard it all, Harvey, from the Luna, as well as Talic, over what you did,” I answered as he flinched.
“You are horrible, and to be honest, I was very shocked over everything I heard. So there is no need for you to pretend to be nice; I’m just a stranger to begin with,” I pointed out.
He turned and went to sit at the edge of the bed facing me.
“Edith,” he called huskily.
“I also heard a lot about you from someone. A witch who was bloodthirsty for power to the point of sacrificing her own family,” he said, and before I could rethink, I found myself chanting a lethal spell as memories of my children’s cries filled my ears and tears filled my eyes.
