Jace’s POV
I sat at the edge of the bed, looking at my chest in silence.
Her grip was strong, and her force was brutal, yet she couldn’t kill us? Why? Did she want to first watch us suffer, or was it out of pity?
Either way, it didn’t matter because I was going back to her side. When she was lying dead by my side, I vowed to stay by her side no matter what.
I stood up and walked to the wardrobe, pulling it open and grabbing a simple gray shirt.
“Alpha, what are you doing?” Las asked.
“Can’t you see? I am dressing up,” I answered while I put on the shirt and buttoned it.
“I can see that, but that’s not why I’m asking,” he said seriously.
I turned and faced him coldly.
“I’m going to check up on my mate,” I answered.
“No, you can’t,” Talic said seriously.
“I can and I will. I expect none of you to get in my way because I really need to be by her side,” I answered.
“Are you fucking insane?” Talic growled as his eyes switched to Harvey’s. Finally, he was letting him take over; perhaps he wanted him to convince me or stop me in some way.
“No, what’s fucking insane is how it took me until her death to realize how much she meant to me,” I answered reluctantly.
“Alpha, I understand how you feel but…”
“You don’t!” I growled loudly as he frowned and took a step back.
“So never should you fucking say that ever again because you really don’t,” I whispered huskily, then blinked back the forming tears.
“Alpha, we may truly not understand, but one thing we are certain about is that she will end up killing you,” Las said seriously.
“And we will let her,” I answered.
“Alpha, you can’t be serious,” he said in a low tone.
“I have never been so serious as I am right now. Ridge and I are both ready to die by her hand,” I said as Harvey moved in front of me.
“You have a pack and members who look up to you. If you die, what do you think will happen to them?” he asked in a respectful tone.
I knew how selfish my decision was, but there was nothing I could think about besides letting her do as she wanted. It was obvious that she hated us all because we all made her suffer. As a leader, I wanted to beg for her forgiveness, but as a mate, I wanted her to get revenge until she could no longer hurt.
“I don’t think she will kill everyone. Her anger is directed towards me more than anyone else. If I die, she may change how she feels and perhaps forgive everyone that dared to hurt her,” I said as I walked towards the door.
“You knelt down, didn’t you?” Las asked.
“Kneeling means nothing. It may hurt my ego, but for her, I would do anything, be it hurt my pride or self,”I answered, then walked out of the room and slowly walked down the passage.
The pack house was quite unlike how it was back then. It was obvious how news had traveled by now. Everyone must have heard of her awakening, and they were afraid to do anything. They were perhaps waiting for me to comfort them and assure them that I was going to take my mate down.
I felt tense as I approached the room where my mate was in.
But before I could grab the door handle, I heard light footsteps approaching and caught an unfamiliar scent.
I turned and looked at the woman who stood a bit further away.
“Can we talk?” She asked seriously.
She was no regular woman that I could feel, and after hearing Las’s story back then, I was sure she was the witch he had talked about.
“Sure,” I answered and then approached her.
“Right this way,” I said and then walked with her to my office.
Once we were in, I took a seat behind the desk while she sat on the sofa.
“I am called Edith, and my mate is Talic,” she said as I smiled.
I guess Talic and Las both were very worried about me that they forgot to tell me that important part. All I knew was that she was a powerful witch who had brought my mate back to life.
“Edith, welcome to my pack. I’m very happy to know that you are Talic’s mate and that you will be a part of us,” I answered and then raised a brow when she looked annoyed at my words.
“I’m sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, Alpha, but I’m not going to be a part of this pack,” she said as I looked at her seriously.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked.
Was she trying to reject him?
“I have a home to go to, Alpha,” she answered.
“But then Talic!” I exclaimed.
“Whatever is going on is none of your business, Alpha. It’s between us, so please don’t try to make yourself a part of it,” she answered coldly.
If it was back then, I would have wasted no time to hurt her for her disrespect, but now I couldn’t. She was Lillian’s savior.
“Fine, you said you wanted to talk,” I pointed out the obvious.
“Yes,” she answered.
“Wait, first before you say anything, I want to thank you so much for bringing my mate back to life. If there is something you need or want that is in my power, please feel free to ask. I will do or give it to you sincerely,” I said honestly.
“Alpha, that’s why I am here to talk to you. There is something that I didn’t tell Talic or anyone else about the resurrection spell,” she said as my heart began to beat rapidly.
“What?” I asked huskily.
Was something bad going to happen to Lillian? If that’s the case, then I needed to be honest with her right now.
“The spell is good, but there is a price you will pay when she does reject you. Look, if the Luna suffered six years by your hand, you will suffer the same years until you die. So be wary and try to make her accept you no matter what,” she said as I faked a smile.
There was no way she was going to accept me. I was either going to suffer through the rejection and pass away or die by her hand.
“Thank you for that information. So when are you leaving?” I asked.
“Soon,” she answered and then stood up.
“When I first heard your story, I hated and wanted nothing to do with you, but now I just feel pity for you because of what you are going through. Talic also can’t seem to breathe,” she said.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered.
“I’m not the one you should be telling that,” she answered and then walked out of the room.
